Owl's Hollow - a quirky wooden showmans in a hidden Devon valley. Perfect secluded location for a relaxing couples getaway & off the beaten track. Beautiful hideaway in its own piece of wild. All the comforts of glamping. Rich with diverse wildlife: owls, badger, deer, fox, buzzards & more. Enjoy an outside evening fire watching the murmuration of rooks coming home to roost. Sit quietly & listen to the sounds of the babbling brook & birdsong, bathe in our luxury outdoor bath and watch the stars Owls Hollow is a unique wooden showman’s (much bigger than a standard shepherds hut) which we have lovingly restored ourselves to offer you a unique and unusual space for that lovely escape back to nature . The showmans has a wooden mollycroft roof, to preserve this we have added an external covering, which not only adds to the quirky design but also means the inside is kept lovely and cool in the heat and cosy and warm on chilly nights when you light the wood stove. There are numerous windows to allow plenty of natural light. We have added plenty of attention to detail with our craft skills, including chainsaw carved owls! Super comfortable double bed, cosy wood burner, kitchen, table and seating, cosy reading area, ample wardrobe and cupboard space: all make for those glamping luxuries. Outside light on porch with boot and coat area. Half a dozen eggs, tea, coffee and sugar are provided, please bring your choice of milk as we are no longer able to supply this. Owls Hollow has power (from renewables) for lights and sockets. There is no internal plumbing, water is in a traditional jug and ample barrels of water with taps for ease of use are provided in the tented utility area. This also houses the fridge, washing up sink, and undercover area to sit. All the water here is natural spring water and there is no WiFi, and rarely any phone signal (*update: unless you are with O2, possible signal)- so you can relax and just get back to nature. Outside you have a camp fire area with seating and fire dish, which also doubles up as a large BBQ. There is an open tented utility area, also outdoor table and chairs and two sun loungers. The first two evenings ample worth of firewood is provided with your booking, further bags can be bought on site for £5 if required. We have a friendly small black cat who is likely to visit you around the fire! Welcome to shoo her away or let her be- but she is strictly not allowed in the showman’s! It’s half a minutes walk along your path to the glamorous compost toilet (with solar lights) and the ultra special bathroom! The quirky bathroom comprises 2 indoor areas- one with dressing room and hot shower, the other with wash basin. Only Eco friendly products can be used: we provide shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and soap for your convenience. Your towels and dressing gowns will be provided ready folded on the shower area shelving. Outside is the wonderful outdoor bathing experience! Relax in the deep cast iron bath watching the day go by, or the night sky (and often owls and bats!) Instant hot water means you can stay in for as long as you like, topping up as needed! Take a book and a pot of tea / glass of wine and just lay back and soak. The advantages of our spring water fed bath over hot tubs are no need for chemicals, adjust the temperature easily, eco friendly and two can still fit! There is also the option to use the attached shower head. 240v sockets available in the dressing area, hairdryer supplied. A tent pitch is also available when booking Owls Hollow, please enquire. You have exclusive access to the showman’s, outside facilities, compost toilet, bathroom. Nestled in the beautiful mid Devon area with tiny lanes and rolling hills. Unspoiled by tourist crowds and within easy reach of both Dartmoor and Exmoor and their stunning swim spots. We will also let you know our favourite places for day trips out away from the maddening crowds. There are numerous quaint country pubs serving scrumptious food. The local award winning village pub is a pretty 15 minute walk (and serves delicious food), as is the village community shop. There is also an excellent farm shop 20 minutes walk/ few minutes by car. We have fresh chemical free garden produce for sale and free range eggs. Plenty of interesting pretty country walks, including from your doorstep. We provide maps of local walks and printed directions to swim spots, along with leaflets for local places of interest. We are happy to suggest full day itineries taking in a couple of beauty spots and a good pub. We are happy to share our knowledge as locals, and available if needed during your stay. The glamping area is accessed from a track going through the land, you will have your own car parking space by the barn and then it's a short walk to the showmans. We keep the fields vehicle free to preserve it's beauty - there is a wheelbarrow for carrying luggage and we are happy to help. Contactless check in is also available if required. The first field has the bathroom and compost toilet. You have exclusive use, no one will walk through, but the bathing area also has roll down blinds for use if preferred. The second field has your living space and again is exclusive to you- there may be very rare occaisions where my neighbour walks along the top edge on her way through to the woods, at a distance from the showmans and without disturbing your peace. Please note: Owls Hollow is not suitable for children or pets.

A delightful countryside break

Staying in Owls Hollow at Springfields was a total delight. The land is stunning, and vast enough for you to feel like Owls Hollow is your own little slice of nature. There is so much space allocated to you, from various places to sit outside the cabin, to the outdoor kitchen, to the bathing area, to inside the hut itself. The outdoor bath was an absolute luxury, as was the wood burner in the cabin, and the use of any kitchen equipment you could think of. The care and thought Karina has put into making the space comfortable and peaceful is incredible. It was also great to see in progress wood carvings taking place around the site. The beautifully quaint village is a short ten minute walk away, locals were incredibly welcoming and warm. A truly wonderful experience, well worth the expense, and a fantastic host. Thank you Karina!

A wonderful escape into nature

What a blissful visit! Owl's Hollow is truly an escape into nature. The site is kitted out with everything you'd need and more, but still feels wonderfully back to basics. Karina did everything possible to make our stay as heavenly as it was, from providing local eggs to a good stock of firewood and a wheelbarrow to take all our stuff! We loved being able to use the outdoor firepit and still move indoors to a cosy log burner once it got cold. The outdoor bath is a complete treat and even the compost toilet is an experience in itself! The wood carvings around the whole site are absolutely lovely too, ans really add character to the place. 100% recommend - top host, top location, top time!
