Located just one hour from Sydney, our property features 19 acres of pure serenity with two dams and one large enough to kayak on (kayaks supplied). The back of the property is perfect for camping and suitable for a small to medium caravan/camper. The larger dam has a picnic area and kayaks available to paddle on. Adjoining our property is Nattai National Park with a lovely 20 minute walk down to Little River. The Aqua Pool Trail in the National Park is just gorgeous. If you wish to try and catch some yabbies from the dams the only allowable and fun way is by a long stick and sausage. Hooks, fishing lines and traps are not allowed as we have people, dogs and horses swimming in the dams. We welcome self-contained campers who bring their shower/toilet set up. We do have two drop pit toilets available and each campsite has a pit fire provided. We are getting low on firewood so you will need to bring some along with you. There is access to drinking water. Our property is 2WD accessible and can accommodate small caravans and camper trailers. Not far from Buxton is Thirlmere where the Steam Train Museum is and train rides are available on the weekends, a great activity for the kids. Thirlmere Lakes National Park is perfect for a relaxing picnic, walk, birdwatching, and glimpse into locomotive history. Mittagong and Bowral have great wineries with restaurant/bistro. Pets are welcome. There's a range of different bushwalking trails in the region, including Starlights trail, a scenic bushwalk suited to experienced hikers, which forms part the Greater Blue Mountains trail network between Mittagong and Katoomba.

Our first camping experience!
Tent · With pets ·
Our family of three and a dog had a very peaceful time at 'Secret Getaway', Buxton Avenue. Luckily, the entire campsite was for us. However, even with other guests, I guess, the campsites are well-distanced and spaced out for privacy. Campsite-2, where we had camped had a small pond overlooking, which in the evening gave a magical feel to our experience. A river at walking distance and a free kayaking experience in the property added to the bonus amenities. The toilets were clean and adequate potable water was supplied. My dog Milo had a wonderful time chasing elusive kangaroos. Hosts, Victor and Luvina were wonderful and kind enough to come and meet us to check if everything was fine. The campsite is well-equipped with great amenities, and we especially enjoyed the kayaks and the dam. However, the site allocation process could be improved with better transparency. We booked a one-night stay midweek and were assigned a pitch by the host rather than choosing one ourselves. Initially, we were given Pitch 1, which was closest to the road, shared toilets, and three other pitches. Seeking more privacy, we asked for a different spot, and the host quickly moved us to Pitch 5. While communication was friendly and responsive, it lacked details about the pitches. Upon arrival, we realised that only one of the six pitches was occupied, yet we were still placed in a less-than-ideal spot. Pitch 5 had no grass and wasn’t suitable for tents—likely better for a caravan. Unfortunately, it rained that night, and due to the terrain, our gear became extremely muddy—worse than we’ve ever experienced while camping in the rain. A clearer pitch selection process with accurate descriptions and photos would greatly improve the experience. While we enjoyed the facilities, the campsite was not as quiet or remote as expected. Nearby houses and a puppy farm meant occasional barking dogs and distant music. Overall, a well-planned campsite with good amenities, but better pitch information and selection options would make a big difference.

Loved the spot. Nice right at the dam. Flushing toilet. Probably the fee is a bit too high for what you get. You’ll pay that for a caravan park

It was good! Not super private, your neighbours are pretty close and we weren't that keen to swim in the dams but it was close to Bargo potholes which were great for a swim and nice just to get away. Would go again. I really appreciated the big water bottles!
