Set at the base of the mountains on a beautiful valley floor, located in wine country in the lower Hunter Valley, Cranky Rock gets its name from a 25 tonne sandstone rock that graces our home. The 120 acre working beef and horse farm is situated a scenic 2 hour drive North from Sydney or 1 hour East from Newcastle. Whether you chose to stay of one of our campsites or in our pioneer-style cottage, all visitor being awoken to the natural bush sounds of lyre birds and cooling their heels in the crystal creek at the bottom of the property.  On your way in or out, be sure to check out the boutique village of Wollombi which is just 10 minutes from Cranky Rock, where you'll enjoy wine tasting, fresh produce and quaint cafes. Other must-see's in the area include the Olney State Forest and the Wattagan National Park. The property is located just off a scenic drive, over a 2wd accessible creek crossing. It is peaceful and secluded. Campers can used shared kitchen and bathroom facilities located at the top of the camp area. Dogs are welcome, but as it's a working farm, we ask the remain on leash at all times.

Lovely site and well looked after by our hosts. Kids splashed in the creek during the day and we sat out under the stars in the evening. We stayed on site 6 which has some lovely shady trees. Thanks!

Such a lovely property. Lots of space and quiet. The weather was not the best for us at the time, but would recommend to other campers.

A great little find close to Wollombi and a few wineries. Large individual sites each with a drop toilet if you don’t fancy the short trip back to the toilet and shower area. We were on site 6 which was set away from the main field which was good however you are visible from the road but there’s not too much road traffic. Overall a great weekend, the kids loved it.

All should have updated photos
The photos on the app , is why I decided to stay at this place. Looking back at the photos, they are over 5 years old. Where we stayed wasn’t flat, it was mowed ruff, months before we got there. We ended leaving a day early , due to the massive down fall we received on Sunday night. We could cope with the wet ground, but it was the road access that really worried us. We only had a 2wd and the road was hilly and ruff , they located us on site 6 , for more privacy due to the wedding be held there on Sunday. Site 6 over looked the main rd, it wasn’t that annoying but it got nosier during the day with all the traffic .Overall we enjoyed our camping trip, it was our first time. So when I look for our next trip in April, I will be looking at the dates of the photos. I took photos of their land, it was long and fire hazard. We went for a walk of the property, that creek , No way would you swim In it. Where wedding was going to be held, wasn’t mowed for the day and these bush tracks could not find any. What we saw the place looked sad. I don’t want to be mean, but the photos were nothing like the place. Sorry. I hope this help. This sites need updating photos regularly.

Great spot, just out of an awesome little town, the camp ground was clean and tidy, plenty of space, lovely outlook. Very much enjoyed our time camping here, even though it bucketed down rain, still was a great time :) Hosts were very responsive via messages.
