Set at the base of the mountains on a beautiful valley floor, located in wine country in the lower Hunter Valley, Cranky Rock gets its name from a 25 tonne sandstone rock that graces our home.
The 120 acre working beef and horse farm is situated a scenic 2 hour drive North from Sydney or 1 hour East from Newcastle.
Whether you chose to stay of one of our campsites or in our pioneer-style cottage, all visitor being awoken to the natural bush sounds of lyre birds and cooling their heels in the crystal creek at the bottom of the property.
On your way in or out, be sure to check out the boutique village of Wollombi which is just 10 minutes from Cranky Rock, where you'll enjoy wine tasting, fresh produce and quaint cafes. Other must-see's in the area include the Olney State Forest and the Wattagan National Park.
The property is located just off a scenic drive, over a 2wd accessible creek crossing. It is peaceful and secluded. Campers can used shared kitchen and bathroom facilities located at the top of the camp area. Dogs are welcome, but as it's a working farm, we ask the remain on leash at all times.
Cranky Rock offers a spacious and serene camping experience, ideal for those looking to disconnect and enjoy nature. Many guests appreciate the quiet surroundings and the welcoming hosts, often mentioning the unique charm of the location. However, some campers have noted that the facilities could use some updating, and there have been occasional concerns about maintenance. Despite minor drawbacks, the area’s natural beauty and proximity to wineries and historic towns make it a worthwhile spot for a peaceful getaway.
Stayed one night here. Lovely place, great camp shower built between two rocks Nice couple run it clean drop loos and nice camp sites by the Brook. Road can be a bit noisy but soon quietens down about sunset. I would stay here again.
We loved camping at Cranky Rock. So peaceful, so many stars at night. Lindsay and Pam were great hosts and we really loved the cattle, horses and chickens. Would definitely come again
Lovely site and well looked after by our hosts. Kids splashed in the creek during the day and we sat out under the stars in the evening. We stayed on site 6 which has some lovely shady trees. Thanks!
A great little find close to Wollombi and a few wineries.
Large individual sites each with a drop toilet if you don’t fancy the short trip back to the toilet and shower area.
We were on site 6 which was set away from the main field which was good however you are visible from the road but there’s not too much road traffic.
Overall a great weekend, the kids loved it.
