The Hartley Vale Garlic Farm was established in 2018 as an organic garlic farm now owned by James and Michelle and their two children. The farm features a hempcrete building named 'The Stinking Rose' used for drying and curing garlic, that also acts as a big room for garlic feasts during planting (March, April and May each year). The building also houses toilet and shower facilities for guests when camping on site. On some evenings, the sky puts on a real show of golden sun rays with pink, purple and blue clouds while swallows flit across the garden beds catching moths. Our guests like to sit around their campfires watching the spectacular show while kids and dogs run around without the burden of leashes or noise of city traffic. We invite you to come and camp on our organic garlic farm. Our whole property is an exercise in sustainability.  We live off grid and are highly committed to the circular economy and connecting people from the city with rural areas.  We use sustainable farming methods to produce organically grown garlic on an elevated site in beautiful Hartley Vale (near Lithgow),  just 2 hours from Sydney.  We especially love guests with young children and dogs and can offer paddock to plate meals on request for large groups, served in our beautiful farmhouse. We have composting toilets. Hot showers. Pets welcome. We sometimes offer garlic tasting after harvest (time dependent, once per year) so be sure to ask us! The campsite offers stunning mountain views and a peaceful atmosphere, perfect for those looking to unwind. Positive feedback highlights the accommodating host Michelle, the friendly camp dog Stephen, and the clean facilities, although one review noted messiness and noise from a neighboring property. Many visitors enjoyed the opportunity for campfires and the company of animals, making it a great spot for families. However, some found the property overgrown and the shower setup inconvenient.

Great camping experience, thank you

Our 4yo loved playing with the dog and discovering the animals around (chickens, sheep). The camping site offers beautiful views on the surrounding mountains by the fire pit. Great facilities as well: newly renovated bathroom with hot showers. Thank you Michelle!

Messy and Grumpy Owner
Tent
Nice views in the distance but not a great experience overall. Grumpy host who made no effort to help us find the designated sites but then berated us for driving around trying to find it on our own. The property is pretty messy, overgrown grass and irrigation hose strewn all over, couldn’t even close the shower room door because of the weeds poking through. Don’t mind rugged but at least mow a path from the camp sites to the toilets. Couldn’t lock the adjoining door to the toilet/main house which was weird! Lots of loud noises (dogs and loud bangs) from adjoining property, wouldn’t come back here.

The views are really stunning! Sunset is awesome. It is also very peaceful out there. Clear wide night sky starry starry night. Michelle (our host) is really helpful and accomodating. And Stephen is a big bonus! Already had separation anxiety with Stephen 🙂. Will come back again for sure.

A lovely campsite nestled amongst the mountains. Great for a stopover. There was a friendly dog called Steven. Well nature with good temperament. Michelle and her son Oscar were very helpful and provided us with firewood for an extra charge. The toilet was a bit smelly and uninviting, you have to navigate through a bit of farm rubbish to get there.
