Discover 528 acres of Wollumbin paradise. McKenzies Mountain is run by a sixth generation pioneer family, and boasts a kilometer of river frontage, four kilometers interspersed with waterfalls and rockpools, over a hundred acres of pristine rainforest, and a 2000 ft elevation mountain peak. Plus it's home to 125 head of cattle. It's simply a magical country camping spot.
There is plenty to do, including swimming, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and crystal fossicking. Just next door, within walking distance, is the Hare Krishna farm, where they run Hare Krishna farm tours, workshops, and Yoga retreats.
Each camping area has been chosen to ensure space and privacy for all guests, good access and lovely views.
McKenzies Mountain is a tranquil campsite offering spacious and well-maintained sites with beautiful views. Campers appreciate its proximity to Murwillumbah and the friendly, knowledgeable host, James, who is always willing to lend a hand. While most reviews are glowing, a few noted that the toilets could be cleaner. Visitors enjoy the peacefulness, access to the river, and the opportunity to explore local attractions.
Great place to stay. Wide river frontage to the freshwater Oxley river. Great place to swim. James the owner is probably one of the nicest people you will meet. There is a Hare Krishna community next to his property and they allow visitors. James has cattle and in the spring the new born calves are great for the kids. Mount Warning's peak can be seen to the south and the property lays inside the caldera. There are turtles, catfish, freshwater eels and even the occasional platypus. If you're after an authentic camping experience then McKenzie's Mountain is the place for you!
Love paddock camping at Mckenzies Mountain. The owner is full of knowledge and very helpful, portaloo very clean, and lots of fire pits. Took the grandkids (5 & 7) had a ball, from tree climbing, crystal fossicking to swimming in the river. Highly recommend. Will be back very soon. A slice of heaven
Our stay at McKenzies Mountain exceeded expectations! The campsite was very spacious, well-maintained and had beautiful views. James is a true bush entrepreneur who clearly values his campers. The site is only a 10min drive from the local town of Murwillumbah and lots of nice places to swim. We will definitely be coming back, and recommend McKenzies Mountain to anyone searching for a weekend camping getaway!
We had the Tea Tree camp, right on the edge of the river.
I was a beautiful spot.
The dogs loved being able to swim free without a lead!
We went exploring the area, there is lots a great things to visit not to far away. Very recharging weekend away!
Fantastic venue and a super accommodating host that will go out of his way to help you with everything from advice on bait for fishing to delivering you firewood.
Nice big sites and we can highly recommend spots on the river.
