This piece of land was purchased and developed by my mother, and named after my grandmother: The Awakening Garden is a translation of her name in Chinese. It is tucked in between the Hudson River (8 miles to the East) and the Catskill Mountains (10 miles to the west). It is just 6 miles from the Village of Saugerties and 14 miles to Woodstock, NY. The piece available for camping is 10 acres, but the entire Garden is comprised of 98 acres of rolling land (most of it in a forestry protection plan) bordered on the west by acres of marshland. Many trails criss-cross the Garden and lead one to pretty or interesting vistas including a large mountain laurel patch, ancient graveyard, and different stands of mixed wood forests. There’s lots of wildlife both on land and in the marshes. This is the perfectly romantic glamping getaway. This rustic, insulated cabin was designed by my Buddhist mother for a meditation retreat, and to commune with nature. With a firepit outside, electricity and a wood-burning stove inside and even wi-fi steps away, you have all the fun of camping but protection from the elements without having to pitch a tent. Make use of our community garden, outhouse with stained glass windows, an outdoor shower, and just enjoy the woods.

We had a lovely time in the Twin Oaks Cabin. Thank you for hosting us! It had a nice little nook for sleeping and a fire place. Will definitely come back again.

Peter’s tiny cabin was really wonderful and well kept. The community was very quiet and the garden was really charming. The cabin is in a great location to get to lots of different hikes. Wish I could have stayed longer!

Beautiful simplicity
I loved the thoughtful design of the cabin - it was beautifully simple whilst also having everything I needed. Was a great spot to reconnect with nature, close to some amazing hikes and not far from shops to pick up groceries or to have lunch. The cabin is surrounded by amazing trees and it was great to be able to visit the shared garden space, I was able to use some sage from the garden to include in my dinner. There’s a hot plate and a small fridge in the cabin, and you can access a shared space to get a kettle and other cooking supplies. There’s a fire pit for an evening fire and a mattress in the loft section of the cabin. I brought my own bedding which was easy enough. You could hear the road from the cabin which meant it was a little noisier than I expected, but mostly didn’t affect me and the trade off was that it was very easy to get into town. Loved my stay, was just what I needed.
