All to yourself
100% of recent Hipcampers say this Hipcamp felt private.
75 acres of cattle farm, frequented by the local wildlife. There is a seasonal creek running through the property. 4WD access only. Pitch your tent in the clearing by the creek, with a small campfire and plenty of firewood. The state forest and fire trails are at the back gate. True Australian bush camping. We are just below 600m, so it gets cold in winter, pack your thermals. During the warmer months there is increased insect and snake activity.4x4 access only! *No firearms* Hunting not permitted Pitch your tent in the clearing by the creek, with a small campfire and plenty of firewood. The state forest and fire trails are at the back gate. There is plenty of local wildlife to enjoy, challenging 4 wheeling at the back gate and gold panning and fly fishing in the howqua river, accessible via the fire trails. Unfortunately due to the Hip camp Policy changes we no longer permit horses or horse back riding on or from our property. There are a couple of horse trail riding companies nearby that you can contact ahead of time for bookings.

The location is great. On the property you are very secluded from them house and it feels like you are in the middle of know where!! But you are a short 20 min drive from Mansfield and about the same from the state park where you can do lots of walks. Lisa was a great host, and we would happily come back. We only had a Kia shortage 4x4 which made the off road trek to the site a bit bumpy. But we did easily do it. But it would be much better if you have an off road 4x4. Will be booking again and coming back with friends.

This site was really big with a nice cleared area for many games and activities! Toilet was very we’ll kept and maintained, the hosts were lovely when showing us down to the site and gave many recommendations in regards to 4WD’ing and swimming spots.

Fabulous bush campsite
Tent
Fabulous private campsite, deep in the bush. Lovely spot with a small (dry) creek, large open glade and a safe fire pit. Lisa was a wonderful host and guided us to the nearby river for swimming.

The cricket pitch is a big, open and peaceful place with great (sometimes scary) 4WD tracks out the back which lead down to the Howqua River. If you’re looking for a camp site that has a feel of being “off-grid” but still close to some great towns, then give the cricket pitch a go! Lisa who hosted us was super chilled and really lovely to meet.

We absolutely loved camping at Dungeon Gully! We had The Cricket Pitch to ourselves which was beautiful, serene, and quiet. We made the mistake of coming via Dungeon Gully Track - be warned, unless you’re an experienced 4WDer, it’s best to enter via Three Chain Road. Lisa and Oliver were lovely, and even brought down some beautiful figs and grapefruit from their garden. We will definitely be back - such a special place.

Lisa and Oliver were so kind and helpful during our stay over Easter. The property and space was perfect for a quiet weekend away. Easy access to the State Forrest and 4WD tracks and 15 mins away from closest town. The camping ground was a large open paddock surrounded by trees - making it the perfect secluded escape. They even delivered us some Easter eggs and a bone for our dog on Easter morning :) thanks for having us !
