This property is located on the border of VA and NC, 6 miles from Kibler Valley on the Dan River with recreational releases for Class 2 white water kayaking in the summer. We are close to Class 1 kayak and canoe river runs as well in Danbury NC along with hiking in the Blue Ridge mountains, Hanging Rock State Park and Pilot Mountain State Park.
We are close to the legendary Mayberry NC , also known as Mt Airy NC and many wineries and breweries in NC and VA. We will send an email with general information and links after you book.
For now we are only taking one booking at a time so you can choose your spot and have the whole place to yourself and your group up to 12 adults.
There are multiple tent sites as well as room for one or 2 small campers. You can set up your tent under the pavilion or on the band pavilion or string hammocks under the pavilion or from the trees.
Well behaved dogs welcome, NO GUNS, NO FIREWORKS.Kid 12 and under are free.
We purchased his property in 1981 when it was 70 acres and have been able to add to it until we are the proud owners of the 100 acre wood. In 39 years it has grown more beautiful and now we want to share it with others who will appreciate a peaceful getaway. We have recently had necessary logging done, mostly by the road which will be startling for those who have been here before but the sheltered beauty at the lake remains.
At this time we are limiting bookings to one group at a time When the Birdhouse on the ridge starts renting you will be sharing the lake and the trails. You are welcome to camp anywhere around the lake or party deck.
The 16' X 20' tent platform at the dam end of the lake is now surrounded by more level land for super large or multiple tents. You can drive to this site.
There is a 14' X 9' tent platform at the upper edge of the lake. We will let you know if it is dry enough to drive too or if you will have to stay on the gravel and walk a short ways.
Currently, the firewood you purchase when booking will be a milk crate full for $6.00 . More will be available on site if you need it cash or Venmo.
One beautiful campsite on the creek is about a 5 minute hike in and we recommend trekking poles as there is a narrow stretch that can be slippery. The tent site is 12' X 7' . This site has a stone fire ring and we will walk in the firewood you have purchased.
Our spring fed lake is about 2.5 acres and is wonderful for a dip on hot days. We have bass, crappie, catfish and grass carp for catch and release. We have a paddle boat and numerous kayaks available for the summer season.
There are no bright lights to hamper the night sky stargazing and the stars above the lake can be glorious.
We have numerous trails on the property that we are in the process of mapping and marking.
The spacious outhouse was built in the spring of 2020 , has solar lighting as well as motion detector light inside. There is a 3 season handwashing station. In winter, please bring hand sanitizer.
We have a filter on the warm weather sink for delicious drinking water.
The kitchen consists of a refrigerator, 2 burner stove, BBQ grill, seasonal cold water sink with water filter and a beautiful granite counter. We have some plates, paper towels and utensils. You will need to heat the water for dishwashing at this time. (We have some pans for that.) There are multiple picnic tables and chairs. We want to remind campers that there are bears and raccoons here though we have not had any problems. Please keep food and trash secured.
This a beautiful, wild, peaceful place with limited cell phone service. We live on the property are are available to answer questions and for any emergency. Because it is wild, please keep your eyes open for snakes and protect yourself from ticks, mosquitoes and poison ivy.

Perfect Spot!
Tent
The site was absolutely amazing! It was private and rustic yet still had all the amenities you could want! Having the entire area to ourselves was so pleasant and really gave you the feeling of being in your own little world and could reconnect with nature and each other. Our rescue puppy was able to be truly off leash for the first time ever and being able to let her explore was amazing as well. We will be coming back for longer next time!

Fantastic Time!
Tent
This is one of the best Hipcamps I’ve stayed at! Patricia was extremely nice greeting me when I arrived and anything I could have needed was provided. The space is much bigger in person and perfect for larger groups. I camped myself with my dog, it rained the entire time but our tent stayed dry on one of the many decks and we went for peaceful walks around the lake. I would highly recommend this location for anyone wanting privacy in nature with lots of activities!

What a beautiful property! Wonderful views of the lake from the tent sites, and pavilion. Patricia has done a wonderful job with the set up at the pavilion and all the amenities offered. It was amazing to be able to take our entire family, including the dogs and have freedom just to play and relax.

One of a kind camping
Tent
The most picturesque camping site you could ever imagine. The view of the water while sitting on the deck is breathtaking and calming. All the amenities you can think of (it’s actually more glamping to be honest!) and Patty and Steve were such a pleasure to communicate with. We even stayed an extra night because that’s how much we enjoyed it! Super dog friendly too with lots of trails and things to explore. Will definitely be back!
