The Lobster Boat Inn

1 site · Lodging3 acres · Antigonish, NS
The Lobster Boat Inn is located on a hill in the woods in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. It sits high and dry with no water in sight. Thus the serial number: NOMOH2O as it will never float again. Our motto is Off the Grid, Off the Water and Off the Beaten Path! The original boat was built in 1995, and when found was in need of some tender-loving care. It was renovated in 2022/23 to provide visitors with a rustic, unique, "glamping" experience. It is filled with lobster-themed items that will send you on an imaginary lobster pot-pulling adventure. Cook on the back deck as you drink in nature, then eat in an original ship's wheelhouse. Our amenities include: comfy beds, fresh drinking-water, refrigerator, interior and exterior bathroom facilities, with a hot shower. If you like, try the lobster eggs for breakfast! Off the property you will find near by: auto race watching, hiking, biking and shopping activities. Downtown Antigonish is but a ten minute drive. The famous Highland Games comes in July along with the Lobster Festival in New Glasgow. Sure, you can sit inside and watch one of the many DVD movies, but why not explore nature, take a walk through the woods, talk to your wife, play with the kids, or throw a ball for your dog? If you want to relax, maybe a visit to one of our 19 Antigonish-area beaches might tickle your fancy. Do you want to golf, mountain bike, fish, visit a lighthouse or a petting farm? We have that too! Take a drive on our new 4-lane Hwy 104 and you'll be blown away at how beautiful asphalt can be. Wide-open highways make for smooth, fast, travel to places like The Cabot Trail or the ferry to PEI. Both are within an hour's drive. Stargazing is wondrous through our dark, clear skies. If you're lucky, you might even spot the Space Station passing by, as you sit at the fire-pit roasting marshmallows after a long day of fun.

The Vales

2 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents58 acres · Pleasantville, NS
We own 58 acres of forest centered on a very old shale pit near Crescent Beach, Nova Scotia. Our long-term mission is to regenerate the landscape, returning all of the property to a forest in time. We hope to establish small camping compounds for family, friends and guests who would like to stay with us and enjoy the amazing scenery of Nova Scotia's beautiful South Shore. Located just below Huey Lake, our property is watered by a stream that flows from the lake, through a series of tiny waterfalls in a gorge, through beautiful pine, maple, and oak forest down to a meandering wetland that drains into the Petite Riviere watershed. Beavers are active in the area and have already begun the process of returning the old quarry to the wilderness. Their activities have created deep ponds where once there was a pit dug from the land for the shale that is abundant in this area. The beavers dammed and diverted the stream which has created a pond and wetland system at the lower end of the property. If you are very quiet in the early morning you may get to see Castor as he busily swims about his watery home. Located near some of the most beautiful features of Lunenburg County, our property is a 5-minute drive from Crescent Beach, Risser's Beach Provincial Park, and Petite Riviere. Opportunities to cycle, hike, swim, canoe, kayak, surf and sail are all around us.

Kayaker’s Island Cabin

1 site · Lodging4 acres · Yarmouth, NS
Outer Sheep island is approximately 25 acres in the confines of Lobster Bay, between Pubnico and Wedgeport. It’s near the Tusket Islands. The wharf on Surette’s Island is a 25 minute from Tusket.  Mi’kmaq would have lived and hunted in this area. Then the Acadians set up homesteads. And more recently it was the site of several lobster and tuna fishing shanties. Don’t be surprised to find a piece of old cast iron stove deep in the forest. Surette’s Island is an Acadian fishing community. Babe Ruth used to come to this area, including Surette’s Island, to hunt. The water between Outer Sheep Island and Surette’s Island is called The Tittle. It’s known for powerful tides. So it’s best to time your kayaking with the tide in mind. The Surette’s Island wharf is at the end of Chemin du Tittle Road.  Learn more about this land: Kayakers’ paradise. Island cabin. Easy landing sites. One double bed, two single bunk beds. Cook on wood stove. Bedding (sheets, pillows, duvets). Water for kitchen dishwashing is rainwater from the roof. You can use the filter to make drinking water or bring your own drinking water. No hot water unless you heat it yourself on the wood stove. One towel per guest. Cutlery, dishes, pots and pans. Keep yourself warm with the wood stove on chilly days and nights. Cabin is not winterized. Sliding patio door looks out to the ocean. No fridge. Lighting and phone charger is solar powered. Clean outhouse. Plenty of islands surround for day trips. Park at public wharf for a short kayak to the site. Paddlers should be mindful of tides. Easiest to arrive at the cabin from the wharf when the tide is rising (coming in) or flat. Picture yourself here - cooking on a Lunenburg foundry wood stove, in an 19th century lobster fishermen’s shanty on an uninhabited island. Exploring nearby islands, you’ll find remnants of abandoned Acadian homesteads - old foundations, overgrown orchards, rock walls, wells, bridges, old breakwaters and wharves. There are also many places to explore on Outer Sheep Island. You’re likely to see great blue herons in the summertime, owls, eagles, hummingbirds and lots of species of sparrow, warblers, and finch. Wonderful place for mushrooms. You’ll see old Acadian forest and find an old well and sheep paths. Great places to swim all around the island.
