If you are looking for a Winter Bunkie getaway, we would be happy to host you; please note the following: - If there has been a lot of snow the private road from the street to the Bunkie is not plowed. Camp Willowbrook

We purchased this farm in 1998 from the previous farmer who had owned it since 1929. The train line ran right by the gate where the Kota hut now sits and would drop cattle right there to be finished and sold later at the Toronto Stockyards. Our barn was built in 1890 with the old farmhouse located across the creek. Two creeks meet the Grand River on our farm. The bunkie is situated north of the barn and faces Willow creek. During the summer the creek gets quite shallow but there are a couple of pools that work nicely for a float with our river tubes. The river also has a small swimming hole. The bunkie is nestled between 2 hills which creates a natural little valley. Campers can take a walk around the property or use the nearby long walking trail. New this spring, campers will be able to enjoy the firewood sauna, located close to the bunkie and nestled in a private spot near the creek.

Forest Bunkie on Bruce Trail

Being avid hikers ourselves, we realize that there are not a lot of accommodations just off the Bruce Trail. So our main goal is to assist hikers as they explore the Bruce Trail. Whether you are doing the ‘end-to-end ‘ in one go (Bravo!), or doing a more relaxed multi day hike, our little bunkie will be a welcome place to lay your head at the end of the day. Our forest bunkie is nestled in the woods, a few minutes walk off the trail, and conveniently located approximately at the half way point of the Caledon Hills section. You truly feel like you are one with nature here. At night you may hear the coyotes howling in the distance or hear the local raccoons out on their nightly stroll. You have complete privacy at the bunkie. However, if you need assistance our home isn’t too far away. Please note that it is an off-grid bunkie…which means no electricity! We do have lamps available in the bunkie, however bringing your own headlamp or flashlight is recommended. There is a cute, private outhouse w/ washbasin. We have an outdoor shower a little ways away from the bunkie site, with hot water. There is a double bed in the loft. The pull out couch on the main level also can be converted to a double bed. There is no running water at bunkie, however we will have some potable water provided. You will be met upon arrival. PLEASE NOTE: *There is a strict NO fire rule anywhere on the property. *There is a hill (w/some forest stairs) that you will have to navigate to get to bunkie site. Mono Mills is 6 minutes away w/ Starbucks, Tim Hortons, gas stations, pizza. Hockley Village is 7 minutes away, with the must visit Hockley Valley General Store. Orangeville is 15 mins away for all food and supplies you may need. We can assist w/ Bruce Trail (Caledon Hills Section) pick ups/ drop offs if we are available.

The Pinecone

Come to the Pinecone to completely relax and disconnect (seriously you will because there is no cell service!). During Summer and much of Spring and Fall, you should be able to drive up to the cabin. Unless your vehicle has especially low clearance. The road/path out to the bunkie started as a well-made tractor path that has held up well over the years but has some rocks and bumps. Once through the gate it’s only a 1-minute drive to where you will park. This road may be a bit muddy! If you are looking for a Bunkie getaway, we would be happy to host you; please note the following: - If there has been a lot of snow the private road from the street to the Bunkie is not plowed. Depending on the type of vehicle you are driving, you may have to park at the gate entrance and walk in (4-5min walk) to get to the Bunkie. - There is a mini wood fireplace in the Bunkie for sleeping but depending on the temperature outside and/or the wind it still may be a little chilly. - There is lots of free wood available for an outside fire but we are sometimes low on small pieces to start fire or use for the mini fireplace. You can bring in your own extra kindling or bring own saw/axe to chop. - Bring your own extra blankets. DETAILS: Sleeping loft accessible by ladder comfortably sleeps 2. You'll have an outdoor fire pit, picnic table and 2 grills (we have lots of wood but you can bring your own charcoal for cooking). Enjoy watching the starts at night by the fire and visits from the abundant wildlife. There is 1 queen size bed in the loft for sleeping which is accessible by ladder. You will melt into the pillow-top mattress, luscious linens and don’t want to wake up heavenly pillows. Our well-appointed shared bathroom features a refreshing shower with both warm and cold water, ensuring you feel rejuvenated after a day of adventure. With running water readily available, you'll have everything you need for a relaxing getaway. Plus, our convenient tap located at the side of the washroom is easily accessible for all guests. There is a small table for 2 inside the bunkie or you can prep food and eat outside on the picnic table. A small fridge cooler is available to store any perishable food you may have. Bring your own ice. The bunkie has solar lighting for the evenings. If you don’t want to find your own firewood in the forest you can pick it up from locals on your way in for $5/bundle (see stands at the end of driveways). It is a big chunk of land but you can't really get 'lost' on it for any significant period of time. We are bounded by roads so eventually you will find your way. But, if you aren't experienced in the woods you may want to keep your wandering short, to start, as you get familiar with the land. Dog friendly!! The water in the cove is beautiful and warm as it has full sun all day, the water in the creek is chilly but offers a great spot to cool or or float in the shade. Just across the quaint bridge, the property boasts 34 acres of forest, trails and fields for a full day of exploring. Our rustic log cabin overlooks Cedar Cove Beach and provides a terrific view and a cozy night's sleep. Evergreen Holler is set in our forest and a 1 minute walk from the beach. In the winter, enjoy a private pond skate or game of shinny with family and friends. End your day with a cup of hot cocoa in your cabin or roasting s'mores around a bonfire. Cabins near Kitchener guide

Overview

Kitchener is best known for its massive Oktoberfest celebrations with its twin city Waterloo, but there’s a lot more to this little city. Just a few minutes away, you can enjoy the Stratford Festival, with a variety of theatrical offerings including some of Shakespeare’s best. Just north of town is the Mennonite settlement of St. Jacobs, where city dwellers go to buy amazing quilts and other artisanal items. The surrounding countryside and nature reserves make for a laidback escape.

If staying near Kitchener is your priority, a number of private campgrounds are available just outside of the city. Laurel Creek Conservation Area is the one public campground in Waterloo.

Conservation Areas

A few of the conservation areas managed by the Grand River Conservation Authority have seasonal campgrounds. Elora Gorge is particularly popular with families for the experience of tubing down the gorge, while Guelph Lake, Conestogo, and Pinehurst also offer camping.

Near Stratford

If you’re planning to visit the Stratford Festival, there are a couple of campgrounds between Kitchener and Stratford, some with tent and RV sites as well as cabins. You may be able to find some beachfront campsites.

When to go

Most of the camping options near Kitchener are seasonal, operating between May and October. Campgrounds often have lower rates in May and from after Labour Day until they close for the season. Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest runs for nine days in late September and early October, when there may still be some campgrounds open.

Know before you go

With St. Jacobs being home to a Mennonite community, you may find yourself sharing the road with horse-drawn buggies in the surrounding areas. Give them plenty of space.
Kitchener-Waterloo has two universities, so even when it’s not time for Oktoberfest, there can be rowdy students around town.
GO Transit commuter trains connect Kitchener and Toronto with hourly (and often more frequent) service. Even if you don’t have a vehicle, reaching Kitchener is easy.
When the large student population leaves for the summer (from May through August) the city becomes much more relaxed and quiet, but popular summer spots like the Elora Gorge get crowded on weekends.
