This woodland retreat, just 40 minutes from Downtown Toronto, provides a perfect escape for those seeking a break from the ordinary. Welcome to Our Handcrafted Oasis: Immerse yourself in rustic charm at our handcrafted cabin, where every detail tells a story. I personally built this entire cabin, pouring passion into every nail and beam. Much of the wood material was sustainably sourced from the surrounding forest and milled right here on our hobby farm. The roof and flooring, crafted with care, echo the natural beauty that surrounds you. Sustainability: I used as much recycled, and reclaimed materials as possible in the build instead of new materials. Even the wood floors and ceiling were milled from trees that died naturally in the very same forest the cabin is located. The cabin is totally off grid, and relies on a small solar panel to power the electronics of the incinerating toilet. Cozy Interior with Forest Views: Inside, a warm and inviting interior awaits. The open-concept living area features a wood-burning stove, ensuring cozy evenings. Large windows frame panoramic forest views, bringing the outdoors in as you relax in comfort. Well-Equipped Kitchenette: Prepare delightful meals in the small, but well-equipped kitchen, complete with a gas stove. Share your culinary creations in the dining area, surrounded by the beauty of the woods. Or if you prefer, order in from the many restaurants and Pizza joints in town. Upstairs, a loft-style bedroom boasts a queen-sized bed, while the lower level offers a cozy futon for additional sleeping space. Drift off to sleep to the gentle sounds of the forest. Please note you must be able to climb a ladder to access the loft. Modern Amenities in Nature: Our commitment to sustainability includes a modern toilet in a separate washroom building. Please note our toilet relies on solar power, during the winter and long stretches of cloudy weather, the battery may become depleted. We have battery back ups available so please let us know of any issues and we can rectify them right away. Board Games for Cozy Nights: Take your games night to the next level with our selection of board games. Whether you're a strategic mastermind or a casual player, enjoy quality time with friends and family in the warmth of the cabin. Outdoor Bliss: Step outside to explore the hiking trails that wind through our forested haven. With direct access to over 100 acres of public forest, every hike is a new adventure. Share stories and toast marshmallows around the outdoor fire pit as you gaze at the starlit sky. Farm Life Bonus: As you explore the area, you'll encounter our friendly chickens, happily pecking and clucking around the farm. As well as our newly added family of sheep followed closely behind by our livestock guardian dog, Nala, ensuring a safe and secure environment for all our animal friends. Discover the Area: For those eager to explore beyond the cabin, historic downtown Uxbridge is only 10 minutes away. Here, you'll find a charming array of shops and restaurants, many of which are highlighted in our guidebook. Indulge in local flavors and discover hidden gems in this vibrant community. Your Hosts: As advocates for sustainable living, we're here to ensure your stay is memorable. Reach out for assistance or local tips during your woodland getaway. Book Your Forest Retreat: Escape the ordinary and reconnect with nature. Secure your reservation at our off-grid cabin, just 40 minutes from Toronto, where modern comfort meets the tranquility of the woods. Create lasting memories surrounded by the beauty of the forest. Our livestock guardian dogs keep the farm safe and the alpacas will keep watch over you, humming contently, as you drift off to sleep. If you allow maybe our barn cat "JeffandSue" will join you for a cuddle.Wake up with the sun or our rooster and enjoy our super delicious farm-style breakfast at 9.30 am as the alpacas are fed by the farm staff.Spend your day at Haute Goat enjoying some of the wonderful experiences before heading back home.Do not forget to bring your camera because you will want to capture every memorable moment to share with your family and friends. This is your opportunity to truly be "one with the herd!"Please note that there are no Farm experiences scheduled on Mondays and Tuesdays. Not suitable for kids as much as we love kids to enjoy the farm life, the Alpaca Sleepover is probably not the right experience for kids under 9. It’s a limited area in the alpaca pen, with a queen-size mattress and only limited space beside it. In addition to that alpaca, behavior can be disappointing for children.Alpacas are very curious animals and they want to know who you are. If you sit/stand still they will come close to you and maybe give you a kiss. But they are also extremely timid and shy and do not like to be petted. But if you earn their trust they will let you touch them.

Cabins near Oshawa guide

Overview

Just east of Toronto on the Lake Ontario shoreline, Oshawa boasts stunning natural landscapes for unforgettable outdoor adventures. Hike the serene trails of Enniskillen and Heber Down Conservation Area, or mountain bike in Durham Regional Forest. Back on the shores of Lake Ontario, Darlington Provincial Park offers a sandy beach, excellent swimming spots, and opportunities for group, radio-free, and RV camping with electrical service for large RVs and trailers. A bit north, find Sibbald Point Provincial Park on the shores of Lake Simcoe, which offers RV campsites with full hookups next to beaches, a boat launch, and plenty more water activities.

Where to go

Darlington Provincial Park

Minutes from Oshawa, Darlington Provincial Park features a long stretch of sandy beach along the north shore of Lake Ontario. It’s a great place for swimming, kayaking, or stand-up paddleboarding, particularly during warm summer months. Nature trails, interpretive programs, and family campgrounds with non-electrical campsites are also offered at this scenic park. Adjacent to the park is McLaughlin Bay Wildlife Reserve, which features protected marshland areas with walking trails, viewing platforms, and hundreds of plant and animal species.

Sibbald Point Provincial Park

For a quieter beachfront camping experience, Sibbald Point Provincial Park is about an hour drive north of Oshawa. On the southern shores of Lake Simcoe, the park offers beach and water activities and is a favorite spot for swimmers. From the boat launch, head out on the water to fish for lake trout, yellow pickerel, and jumbo perch. Wooded hiking trails lead to pull-through RV campsites with available electrical hookups or radio-free camping. Potable water and vault toilets are on-site.

Heber Down Conservation Area

Outdoor adventurers in search of untouched wilderness can make their way to Heber Down Conservation Area in Whitby. Five kilometres of accessible trails wind their way through forests, wetlands, and meadows that offer tranquil bird-watching opportunities. Dogs must remain on leash on the trails, but the off-leash park is a popular spot to burn off some puppy energy. Other key amenities include group picnic area rentals and accessible washrooms.

When to go

Summer and early fall months are popular times to go camping near Oshawa. The warmer weather and longer daylight hours make room for more outdoor activities, like swimming, fishing, and hiking. Fall temperatures average between 13–20°C. The autumn colours throughout Oshawa are an attractive camping backdrop at Darlington Provincial Park and Heber Down Conservation Area, as well. Winter camping is possible with average temperatures around -2° to 0°C, especially for snowshoeing. But trails are generally not maintained during the winter months, and some camp facilities may not be in operation.
