Camping with Kootenay Born

We are now closed for the season and look forward to reopening in April 2025 (weather permitting) Kootenay Born Campsite is on ten acres of fenced in property, with spectacular mountain views. We are located on the west side of the Arrow Lakes and are accessed by a free shuttle ferry service. If you are looking to escape the crowded tourist areas then this is your place. A short stroll from our property is the beautiful Arrow lake. We are surrounded by hiking, biking and ATV trails waiting to be explored. A few miles down the road is Saddle mountain hiking trail, a challenging hike with breathtaking views all the way up. At the top of Saddle Mountain is a look out building with 360 panoramic views that is free to use and has been recently updated. A short walk or bike ride from the camp site, through old growth cedar groves and orchard will lead you to Arrow Lake where you can enjoy all types of water activities or take a walk to explore many of the areas private beaches. We have kayaks and a SUP board for our guest to enjoy and explore our many secluded, sandy beach spots. Please come and enjoy our beautiful wilderness. It's a whole other world over here.....

Valhalla Pines Campground

This is a quiet forested residential area in Sinixt territory. Recommended activities include floating down the river, canoeing the lake, hiking or climbing in Valhalla Park, soaking in Halfway Hot Springs or indulging in Nelson. We are surrounded by beautiful mountains and rivers. This valley has many outdoor activities and events and a very interesting history and culture including Sinixt, Doukhobor, Cannabis and Conscientious Objector. Nelson, Castlegar and Slocan Lake are all a half hour drive away. There are many other special places nearby such as the Goddess Pools and the Emerald Pools. Supplies and services are available nearby including firewood, toiletries, dog day care, massage, bike and canoe rentals, life jackets, rubber dingys and paddles etc. Let us know if you would like a referral to any of these services. There are many guides available for activities in the area including (water sports, climbing, skiing, hiking, artist tours, events, geology, mining, mushrooms, cannabis, garden tours and native history). There is a particularly valued native storyteller here that can also provide a walking tour to a nearby village site with a full scale replica of an aboriginal kekuli (earth house). Please call ahead for recommendations on booking guides or storytellers. You don't need one to get here, but its good to have a 4 wheel drive vehicle for some of the logging roads that are worth visiting. Roof and/or bike racks can also come in handy. The Vallican Whole community center also has events nearby.

Guests will get to wake up to the sounds of the Shuswap River flowing right outside their campsite. Sandy shaded kids play area with a kids swing, 2 person snowboard swing and a trampoline. A net and hammock for all your chilling needs. Load to explore around the property, including an island on the Shuswap River. Launch your floaties and spend the afternoon floating down the picturesque river, but please bear in mind the river conditions vary throughout the year. The 8KM river float is an intermediate level float and may not be suitable for young kids as there is a section that needs to be walked to avoid a dangerous area. There is other options for shorter floats upstream and end at our property. Please ask us for more details. We also have a field to ride any quads or dirt-bikes around. Its very basic riding conditions, but still fun for young kids! As well there is lots to see in the area including 2 waterfalls and Mable lake provincial park all within an hour drive. About

Set along a section of the Columbia River where it widens to a lake, Arrow Lakes Provincial Park is the smallest of the four provincial parks along the Arrow Lake Reservoir. This park makes a good base for taking the Upper Arrow Lake Ferry for a dip at Halcyon and Nakusp Hot Springs or for hikers who want to explore Mount Revelstoke and Glacier national parks. Popular with anglers, the park has a boat launch and dock. Seventeen basic campsites line the lake and each site has a fire ring and picnic table. Arrow Lakes Provincial Park is the territory of the Sinixt, Okanagan and Ktunaxa peoples.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. The park’s 17 sites are first-come, first-served sites, with no advance reservations accepted.

When to go

Arrow Lakes Provincial Park is open for camping from May 1 to September 30.

Know before you go

  • This is a rustic park with limited amenities and no mobile phone service. Visitors should be self-sufficient.
  • There is no water at this site, but free potable water is available at nearby Blanket Creek Provincial Park.
  • Additional camping may be found at Blanket Creek, Martha Creek, and McDonald Creek provincial parks.
  • The nearest town of Revelstoke is 50 kilometres away.
