Replenish and Rewild…
…in this tranquil river valley. Spend time in retreat from the hustle and bustle of life in this beautiful and unique location where you will have the valley to yourselves. Perfect for a romantic night or two, a family wilderness adventure or a solitary retreat in the heart of South Devon’s beautiful rolling hills.
Lie in the Tall Grass…
….counting butterflies and watching the buzzards fly overhead, serenaded by the buzzing of insects, birdsong and the chattering stream. Cool off by jumping in the waist deep plunge pool or relax in the hammock in the shade while your children splash about. The Little Yellow Van is a quirkily refurbished early eighties VW camper van in which we have had many road trips and adventures but is now in its final pasture with an inside that is cosier than it’s ever been with its recent refurb.
The van has a small but comfortable double bed downstairs which folds into a sofa during the day, with a table big enough to eat at if the weather is inclement. Upstairs in the elevating roof there is plenty of storage for all your bedding, clothes and other camping gear. The interior and exterior of the van is lit via solar panel which also provides power for phone charging etc.
If additional sleeping spaces are needed, there is plenty of space for tents by arrangement. We ask guests to please bring their own bedding and pillows.
A camp kitchen is set up in a summer house next to the van. This has a two ring cooker, a cool box, and hopefully all the crockery, pots and pans and equipment you need to cook a meal.
Outside there is a fire pit with removable grill which can be used for barbecue cooking or with the grill removed for cosy campfires at night. You can buy firewood from us or you may gather dead kindling from our land to burn on the fire but please bring your own charcoal for cooking.
There is an outdoor sink and tap with running water. You can drink the water after boiling or bring your own drinking water. The site has a rustic gas powered shower for an outdoors showering experience - please use natural washing products. A compost toilet is located near the entrance to the valley.
NOTE: The Little Van in the Valley is in a remote location down winding country lanes. We are however fortunate in being in walking distance of a lovely pub that does excellent food and a quintessentially English garden nursery and tea rooms.
The Little Van in the Valley is a truly peaceful retreat and whilst you are there you will have the valley to yourselves making it a total immersion in nature, the wildlife and the landscape. The downside of the rural location is the access. The best case scenario is that you can drive onto the site and park in the carpark, 2-3 minutes from the van. If you don't want to take your car down the track to the van, or if the weather is wet, we'd suggest parking on the public road and ferrying in your belongings by the wheelbarrow provided (a 10 minute walk).
