3 sites · Lodging11 acres · Tweed, ON
Welcome to Backwoods Cabin Co. We have two unique glamping cabins available on our property located on the outskirts of Tweed and Madoc. The perfect spot to unwind, relax, and snuggle by the wood stove. There is a loop trail that goes around the entire 11 acres of land. There are markers along the trail so you know the boundaries of the area My family and I live on the property, we are here if you need anything urgently. We do spend a lot of time outside so the odd time you might hear our kids playing. We do have 2 VERY friendly dogs named Copper and Chief who might bark at you when you pull into the driveway but are on an electric fence so cannot get back to the cabin. We also have an outdoor cat named Wessie that may come and say hello. Follow us @backwoodscabinco *** PLEASE NOTE: THIS CABIN IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WOODS SO THERE WILL BE BUGS IN THE APPROPRIATE SEASONS (SPRINGTIME BLACK FLIES AND MOSQUITOS, SUMMERTIME MOSQUITOS AND DEER FLIES, FALL SOMETIMES MOSQUITOS) ***

Campers are welcome to hike the marked waterfront trail or others within the 56 acre property, just down the road is the Black river bridge and put in for the designated paddling . This is a unique landscape, nestled between Mt. Moriah , the Elzevir pluton complex and the Black River in an ultramafic zone, with coloured quartz veins and pillowed granite outcroppings. Various lakes and trails are accessible by human power or with off road vehicles. Cell phone signal is limited, my home is equipped with a booster available for emergencies 24/7.

Some are treasures (European Grapes, Bergamot, French Roses, Asparagus, Rhubarb, Ramps, Fiddle-heads) and others not so much. I am re purposing what I can and collecting the rest for disposal as I nurture this land back to what it was meant to be, paradise. There is an outdoor shower available as well. Camping near Prince Edward County guide

Overview

Food, wine, and sandy beaches draw visitors to Prince Edward County, a historically agricultural region sandwiched between the Bay of Quinte and Lake Ontario, east of Toronto. These days, the fields mostly grow grapes, and the three dozen wineries make good chardonnay, pinot gris, and pinot noir. Restaurants, inns, and craft breweries fill The County’s three main towns: Picton, Bloomfield, and Wellington. On the south shore, Sandbanks Provincial Park, one of Ontario’s top destinations for campers, is known for its sand dunes near West Lake and its long beaches along Lake Ontario. Campers and RVers can also opt for lakeside sites at nearby commercial campgrounds.

When to go

While the busiest season in Prince Edward County is June through early September, both spring and fall can bring pleasant weather and fewer crowds. The campgrounds at Sandbanks Provincial Park are open from late April into October, and book up months in advance for weekend getaways in summer. Come mid-week if your schedule allows. During the cold winter months, from January to March, many businesses around The County close entirely or significantly reduce their hours.

Know before you go

  • Book your trip to Prince Edward County in advance, particularly if you plan to camp at Sandbanks Provincial Park or if you’re visiting on a summer weekend. Campers can reserve sites at Sandbanks up to five months before your trip, and campsites are often booked as soon as they become available.
  • Picton, the largest town in The County, is your best choice for groceries and other supplies, but you’ll find small local markets, farm stands, cheese makers, and orchards throughout the region.
  • Looking for a less-crowded day-use beach? If the Sandbanks beaches are too busy, try the smaller North Beach Provincial Park. You can also find beaches for swimming and fishing around the large East Lake.
