Wirrilaa (home of The Busy Bush Turkeys) is located on the banks of the Oxley River just 5 or so minutes from the gorgeous township of Tyalgum and just 15-20 minutes from Murwillumbah in northern NSW. The property is 72 acres, mostly pristine rainforest, with cleared spaces on the lower areas and boasts excellent views of the north face of Mt Warning. At present, there are no amenities, but plans are afoot for toilets, showers and a camp kitchen in the future. There are fire pits at the campsites and firewood, including bags of kindling, is generally available for purchase, but please check in advance. Campers can enjoy bushwalking in the beautiful rainforest (no tracks as yet, so please ensure you are skilled and equipped for off-track walking), swimming, kayaking, fishing and just relaxing in the beautiful setting. There are many walks in National Parks nearby and we are is also not far from the 24 km Northern Rivers Rail Trail. We offer a drop off and pick up service. (Up to 4 people and bikes/trip.) Tyalgum has much to offer, including Devonshire tea and a variety of other food and shops at the iconic Flutterbies, Tyalgum Village Markets (last Saturday of each month), the pub and General Store (with great coffee!) along with other sites. At present, access and campsites are suitable for tents and off-road camper trailers only. 4WD is recommended and necessary if the weather has been wet. We will return to being dog-friendly once we complete our dog fencing. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will keep the property and site descriptions updated.Site 3 is easily accessible, down on the river plain expanse. This is the first site as you come down off the track down and there are markings to show the site boundaries. There are are only 3 sites down here, so you will have plenty of room. There are some fairly level areas to chose from. It's just a short stroll to the river and all it has to offer.

Lovely spot along the river with easy access and a slight view of the Tweed Range. Hosts were fantastic and very friendly, I felt welcomed and comfortable for my night. Birds in the morning were awesome.

I so enjoyed my stay at Wirrilaa Rainforest Retreat, Sandra was a welcolming and friendly host who was only to willing to show me around the property and her warm hospitally was greatly appreciated. There is loads to do here including some impressive walks to get the heart pumping as well a slower paced kayak down the river. The birdlife is abundant and the campsite is a stones throw from the river. There are steps now in place to make accessing the river easy and a bench seat to just sit and watch the birds, it was so peaceful. The trip to Tyalgum is 10 mins drive and is worth going for the delightful shops and food. Highly recommend this campsite

Didn't bother pitching the tent
Tent
Site wasn't suitable for tent camping. Ground was waterlogged despite no rain for many weeks. No view whatsoever, didn't look anything like the pictures, vegetation had been cleared leaving a mess. Home being renovated beside the camp area with building works and construction noise on arrival. Basically a marshy piece of land next to a building site. We didn't end up staying and advised the host that it wasn't suitable. We were advised a refund would be organised with Hi[camp via the host but received nothing to date. The hosts seemed very pleasant but are kidding themselves if they think this is acceptable camping area for the price. We ended up booking another hipcamp nearby and had the most lovely time there instead. Will put this one down to experience and wasted money, and wish others had given more honest reviews.
