Nearly wild camping on a smallholding in West Wales

The camping on offer at Ffynnonwen Farm is refreshingly simple. Book a pitch here and you’ll have lots of space, very few neighbours, and excellent views towards the Cambrian Mountains. You can buy eggs for your breakfast, logs for your campfire, and you’ll have lovely welcoming hosts. This is a small and friendly Hipcamp on an eight-acre smallholding looked after by Mark and Karen, whose chickens, geese, sheep, pigs and pygmy goats all add to the charm.

Pitches here are all grassy, off grid, and unrestricted in terms of space and shape. You can simply pitch where you please in the meadow that’s set aside for campers. Tents, campervans, motorhomes, and dogs are all welcome. An indoor toilet and hot shower are provided in Karen and Mark's home, which is a short walk from the pitches. But it’s worth noting this is locked overnight and a simple camp toilet in the field suffices—so don’t forget your torch. Those who will like it here wouldn’t do anything of the sort. This is a campsite best suited to those who are self sufficient and come prepared. It’s nearly wild camping after all.

The site itself offers plenty of scenic spots for picnics and you are welcome to walk among its wildflower meadows. Your hosts highly recommend walking a little further too. Less than half a mile from their fields is Llyn Eiddwen, a nearby lake and nature reserve and Site of Scientific Special Interest. The site is just a few miles inland from Ceredigion Bay on the west Welsh coast and the pretty harbour town of Aberaeron is just 11 miles away. You can enjoy fresh seafood overlooking the sea or head out for a walk on the Wales Coast Path. Further south at New Quay, you can join dolphin-watching boat trips too.

Grass Pitch for up to 5 people. If you are sleeping in more than one tent you will need to book an additional pitch. 1 car and 2 dogs are included within the price, if you would like to bring an additional vehicle or dog you will need to add these as an extra charge on the 'extras' page.

A great farm/wild campsite
9 ft Class B
Mark is very friendly & helpful. The site is a lovely large paddock with Alder trees along the bottom, fields with sheep & cattle & the farm on the other sides. We shared the paddock with a very friendly little sheep, Tilly! It’s on a tiny lane which only has a few cars & tractors going along. We enjoyed the free range eggs & very tasty home grown tomatoes. Honesty jar to pay for these & shower. Fill your water containers before arrival if you’d rather not use rain water for washing up but it was fine for us. Bottled water is provided free for drinking. The compost loo has an amazing view!

Wild camping off beaten track
12 ft pop-up camper
Very friendly host. Off the beaten track. Lots of animals around so dogs couldn’t be off lead. Wild camping in quite an exposed field. Access to toilet and shower in house or compost loo in woods. Very private.

Perfect wild camping experience
Tent
We loved the wild camping experience. We couldn’t see any other campers where we pitched out tent so we felt truly wild. The surrounding animals and beautiful views added so much to the experience. Would recommend for anyone looking for a slightly more off-the-grid style camping experience!

A truly tranquil dog friendly retreat in the heart of the mid-Wales countryside with breathtaking views. Ffynnonwen Farm Wild Camping is ideal for peaceful stays in Welsh countryside. This is a wonderfully quiet eight-acre smallholding with stunning views towards the Cambrian mountains, ideal for long walks and respite away from the city. There is plenty of space for campers to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and dog-friendly nature trails and walks around this farm are full of wildflower meadows, beech trees and a natural spring to wander around. We suggest you visit Llyn Eiddwen lake a Site of Special Scientific Interest, perfect for a stroll beside the rare local water and plant life, only half an hour on foot from Ffynonnwen.
Nearby attractions

Llyn Eiddwen is a Site of Scientific Special Interest and nature reserve looked after by the South and West Welsh Wildlife Trust that’s less than a mile from the site. It’s a lovely place for a walk and wildlife watching. There’s more of that on the coast. You can join dolphin-watching trips from New Quay (20 miles from site) to see some of the sealife in the vast Cardigan Bay. The Wales Coast Path also provides a good chance of spotting birds and sea life and offers a well-signposted route along the whole coastline. One of the closest places to reach the coast is Aberaeron (11 miles), a pretty town with Georgian painted buildings on the harbourside. Just outside the town, you can visit Llanerchaeron, a Georgian villa, gardens and farm.
