Akehurst Lake Wilderness Resort

5 sites · Lodging6 acres · Clearwater, BC
A very remote, tranquil log cabin fishing camp hand-built in the 1960's. Akehurst Lake Wilderness Resort is only accessible by ATV (snowmobile in winter) or by foot (a 9-minute walk from the parking lot). There is no public access to the lake so it is wonderfully private & peaceful. We offer 5 cabins in total with some areas suitable for tents. There is a day-lodge with a kitchen and eating area for guest's use, kayaks, row boats, and a paddle board free for use as well as a wood-fired sauna! The lake is excellent for swimming. It is feet-friendly, shallow, and has no sudden drop-offs. And if you like to hike, fish or BOTH then this is the place for you. There are many nearby lakes that are a short drive/ride and hike away! Akehurst Lake does not have cell service or wifi. Lights are made possible by a gas generator in the evening. There is only cold running water in the day-lodge sink which is seasonal and depends on if the creek is running. Guests should be comfortable being in the woods and aware that if no one else is there, they will need to light the stove and fridge and operate the generator if needed. **Packing List** - Bedding (sheets & blankets or sleeping bag. Pillow covers) - Extra pillows (we provide 2 per cabin. Ask if more are available before arrival) - Towel/face cloth - Dish cloth & Dish towels - Paper towel/napkins - Toilet rolls - Lighter for fires (if applicable). Ours tend to all go missing or stop working - Flashlight - Drinking water - Cooler & ice You are welcome to create your own outdoor kitchen at your cabin, but we do ask you to be mindful of removing items from the day lodge that those using the kitchen might be counting on. ***We cannot stress this enough**: This is very remote. It is truly another world up there and we cannot be there at all times so it is a good idea to have some knowledge and experience in off-grid/backcountry living!

7 Sparks Ranch

3 sites · RVs, Tents163 acres · Kamloops, BC
7 Sparks Ranch is closed for the season. We will re-open in early spring! Look forward to seeing you then!!! Enjoy a relaxing getaway with 7 Sparks Ranch. Consider extending your stay to fully unwind and explore everything the area has to offer. A beautiful creek flows right by the campsite, dip your feet in. You can go for walks or nap under the Aspens! We are one hour outside of Kamloops on a maintained public gravel road, however AWD or 4WD recommended during late fall to late spring. We have no minimum stay but highly recommend two nights. Do not use google maps to find our place - it can be very confusing. Google maps may show coming to our property from Savona but the easiest drive is from Kamloops. Please use the directions that get emailed to you just before your stay. To get here head to the Kamloops airport then follow Tranquille Criss Creek Road. We do not recommend traveling this road in the dark if you are not familiar with it! Wonderfully private! Come give our land some love as it recovers from the 2021 Sparks Lake forest fire. Acres and acres to hike, mountain bike and snowshoe. Surrounded by crown land there is no lack of space to explore and easy access to forest service roads to quad and bike. Many lakes near by for fishing and kayaking. Wildlife galore! There are wild flowers and plants so come forage and explore. Disconnect from the busyness of city life! Coming soon - guided hikes, foraging and information about local medicinal plants and a soon to be Apothecary on site! Detailed directions available after booking!

The best camping near Green Lake Provincial Park guide

Overview

About

Five hours’ drive north of Vancouver, just off the Trans-Canada Highway, this small park in former cowboy country is a great road trip rest stop. In the last century, it was a frequent stopover for stagecoaches, and today, its lakeside campgrounds (six of 11 with facilities), have a total of 121 roomy sites. Water skiers love the nine miles (14 kilometers) of lake, turned turquoise from microorganisms, while cyclists appreciate the bumpy cattle trails that are also good for horseback riding. The closest town, 70 Mile House, sits 10 miles (16 km) away and is named in relation to the start of the former Old Cariboo Road in Lillooet, British Columbia.

Notable campgrounds

  • Best for privacy: The Emerald and Sunset View campgrounds offer shade and privacy in the pine and aspen forest.
  • Best for boat launch access: The southside of Sunset View Campground and the north side of Little Arrowhead have the best access for motorboat fun.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Green Lake campsites can be booked online via the Discovery Campground Service website.
  • When reservations are unavailable, sites are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Three campgrounds sit across from one another on the northern part of the lake.

When to go

Open from mid-May to the end of September, Green Lake’s services shut down in early September. Fall is the best time to see Canada’s quintessential northern lights, a must-see natural phenomena rarely visible in southern Canada but possible at Green Lake. July and August offer prime swimming temperatures, but shoulder season nights get chilly—bring a sweater and warm clothes. Deer and moose are frequent visitors, as are owls and golden eagles, so consider bringing your camera to catch a snap.

Know before you go

  • Green Lake beaches are not shaded, so umbrellas are a good idea.
  • No e-bikes (electric bicycles) are allowed on bike trails in the park—only roadways.
  • The park features an information desk but sells no gear or amenities.
  • Catching a fish here can be tricky, but a dark flatline lure can snag a rainbow trout or two.
  • Local tour operators offer guided horseback riding on nearby cattle trails.
