Next to Mono Cliffs Provincial Park

1 site · RV, Tent10 acres · Mono, ON
This is a very private little slice of heaven that I've been pleased to steward for over 20 years. If you love the sound of frogs singing, and bullfrogs plucking their banjo strings, red-winged blackbirds trilling, you will love it here. The property is literally right across the road from the Mono Cliffs Provincial Park which boasts amazing trails, views and features the Niagara Escarpment. The 4-acre pond/wetland is designated 'Provincially Significant' by the Ministry of Natural Resources and is an important part of the Nottawasaga Watershed. This area is renowned for its terrain - the fields are rolling and the views are quite special. You will enjoy a private firepit and private overlook at the pond with hammock. The site isn't visible from the road. Our house is visible from the site but far enough away as to not disturb one another. We have a newly added outhouse with lighting that will make your stay comfortable.

With a sturdy staircase up the loft and the skylight, this space is beautiful and the perfect comfortable place to fall asleep under the stars. Enjoy the view of our beautiful farmer's fields in the loft window. We strive to do our best when we make the bed, it is tricky for our cleaners as it is a tighter space and they need to kneel on the bed in order to make it. They do their best to provide a clean, crisply made bed. 🐞The loft skylight will draw bugs, ladybugs etc and we strive to deal with them the best we can but inevitably there will be some even after a full clean. The best camping near Rouge National Park guide

Overview

About

The largest urban park in North America, Rouge National Urban Park starts on Toronto’s eastern borders, extending from Markham in the north to the shores of Lake Ontario. Hiking trails take you through the forests, and you can swim in the lake at sandy Rouge Beach or cycle the Waterfront Trail. To kayak, canoe, or paddleboard, or for birdwatching, head to Rouge Marsh, the largest wetland within the city of Toronto. For campers, Glen Rouge Campground has 125 sites as well as oTENTiks, platform tents that sleep up to six.

Notable campgrounds

  • Best all-around camping area: Glen Rouge Campground

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority manages reservations for the campsites and oTENTiks (platform tents) at Glen Rouge Campground in the park. This is the only campground in the city of Toronto.

When to go

Larger than New York’s Central Park, Rouge National Urban Park is open year-round. As in most of Ontario, peak season here is autumn, when you can snap photos of colorful foliage and enjoy temperate weather while wandering the hiking trails or cycling routes. In summer, Rouge Beach is especially crowded, so come midweek if you can. Winter hikers should dress for cold temperatures and watch for ice on trails and roadways.

Know before you go

  • You can reach several sections of Rouge Park by public transit from downtown Toronto. Check the TTC Trip Planner for details.
  • Although Rouge Park is “urban,” visitors have encountered both coyotes and black bears. Stay alert as you hike. Mosquitoes and ticks are more common, so bring insect repellent and check for ticks.
  • The park has visitor centres in its Toronto (including one near the Toronto Zoo), Markham, Pickering, and Uxbridge sectors. You can buy groceries and supplies in any of these communities.
  • Parks Canada staff lead guided walks in Rouge Park. Posted on the park website, these walks are a good way to get oriented.

Nearby attractions

  • For an enriching nature retreat, camping near Rockwood Conservation Area is ideal. The Rockwood camping experience combines tranquil forest trails, mesmerizing limestone cliffs, and crystal-clear waters, promising a truly invigorating outdoor adventure.
  • For an all-in-one outdoor adventure, camping near Albion Hills Conservation Park is unbeatable. The Albion Hills camping experience offers hiking, biking, and even a refreshing water play area, ensuring fun-filled days in the great outdoors.
