Glamp in North Yorkshire’s finest yurts, huts, carriages, and more.
The Northern English region of North Yorkshire is a treat for glampers as it’s mostly rural dedicated to national parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs), but also conveniently close to Leeds and York, too. The northern climate means there’s a relatively short summer window for comfortable tent camping in North Yorkshire—which is why fun and quirky glamping is such a popular choice. From Mongolian yurts and shepherd's huts to refurbished train carriages and travellers’ caravans, North Yorkshire knows how to put the glam back into camping.
The North York Moors National Park covers a large area in eastern North Yorkshire, spanning inland valleys all the way to coastal villages. Glampers looking for a more comfortable overnight option can spend their days walking, cycling, or horse riding throughout the park and their nights at seaside glamping spots near the charming town of Whitby or Scarborough, just south of the national park area on the coast.
South of the North York Moors National Park, the Howardian Hills AONB is an area of rolling pastoral land and the only Jurassic-era limestone landscape in Northern England. Walk, bike, and ride horses through the AONB, then retire to a glamping site around the many lovely villages. Glamping pods offered at family-run farm stays are a particular highlight in this area.
In western North Yorkshire, the Yorkshire Dales National Park is a region of hills, valleys, waterfalls, ravines, and villages. If you like the sound of staying at a high-end campsite in a glamping pod or caravan and soaking in a hot tub while stargazing, this national park area is for you. It offers some of England’s clearest skies and is designated as a Dark Sky Reserve. Look out for the milky way, planets, meteors, and sometimes even the northern lights on a cloudless winter night.
Bordering the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Nidderdale AONB is an extension of the same beautiful landscape, with moorlands, valleys, flower-covered woodlands, and rolling farmland. Look out for glamping pods situated on farmland, woodland yurts with en suite hot tubs, and other memorable glamping experiences around Nidderdale.
