Girt Down Camping

11 units · Motorhomes, Tents20 acres · England
Set the edge of Exmoor, we have unrivalled coastal views, direct access to the South West Coast Path and Combe Martin bay is just a little walk away (perfect for paddle-boarding and dolphin spotting!). Choose your pitch, settle down by a fire pit and watch the sun set across Combe Martin bay. With pizza’s available on some weekends, breakfast baguettes for breakfast and a selection of farm produce available - we have everything you could need! With footpaths from the farm in all directions you can join the South West Coast Path or just ramble down to the village with where there are shops, cafes and pubs. With full flushing toilets and hot showers, as well as a washing up area, there is even an old railway carriage with electric plugs to charge your phone or dry your hair, with a fridge and freezer to look after your supper too. We are a small site focusing on that quiet get-away. There is no road noise, just the farmer going about his day job, who’s more than happy to chat about the wildlife, birds and weather!

Best camping, glamping, and outdoor stays in Looe guide

Overview

Camping and glamping in Looe

Cornwall and camping go together like the clotted cream, jam and scones that this corner of England is known for. And if you’ve set your heart on a camping or Glamping Holiday in this far south-west county, Looe is a great place to base yourself. On the south coast of the county, this popular town sits at the mouth of the East Looe River, offering a seaside destination with a scenic route inland. Whether it’s the beaches and boats or the Cornish countryside that’s tempting you to Looe, camping and glamping help you make the most of Cornwall’s milder climate and sensational scenery. We’ve selected only the best campsites to feature in the Hipcamp collection but there’s such a range here that you’re sure to find something to suit you whether you want to pitch up with a backpack and a one-man tent for the night or set up the family tent for the entire summer. Our collection also features plenty of glamping sites in Looe and its surroundings; from shepherds’ huts with views of the countryside to yurts with toasty log burners.

Things to do in Looe

Once you’ve pitched up at your campsite, you’ll be looking for thing to do in Looe. Head for the harbour to watch the fishing boats landing their daily catch and perhaps to sign up for a trip out to sea to try your luck or to visit the wildlife haven of Looe Island. Kids will love crabbing from the town’s Banjo Pier and rockpooling on Hannafore Beach, on the west side of the river. For sandcastle building and swimming, stick to the beach at East Looe, where there are gently sloping sands within easy reach of town. You can learn about the history of the town at the Old Guildhall Museum and Gaol, tuck in to fresh fish and chips and discover Kilminorth Woods. You can also hop aboard the Looe Valley Line trains for a scenic ride inland to the market town of Liskeard.

Family-friendly attractions include Wild Futures Monkey Sanctuary on the outskirts of town and, slightly further afield, Porfell Wildlife Park. The Eden Project and Bodmin Moor, two of Cornwall’s best-known attractions, are also within 20 miles of Looe. For more ideas on days out from Looe, check out the Visit Cornwall website.
