We really care about the environment and hope you do too. We commit to local and organic wherever possible, only use environmentally friendly cleaning products and toiletries. We look after our 6 acres with non invasive methods and grow organically. You will find everything you need here, including a lovely, light open plan living area with dining table, well equipped kitchen, comfy sofa, wood burning stove (generous amount of wood and kindling provided), with lovely views over the surrounding fields through the French windows. There is a small covered terrace outside with table and chairs to sit and enjoy your food, a coffee or something a little stronger...... we can also lend you a firepit or bucket BBQ and can sell you logs or local charcoal. You will look out over your own garden area and onto the fields beyond. The bathroom has a large shower and freestanding bath. The large bedroom has a very comfy double bed with organic linen, duck and goose down pillows and a Devon wool duvet. Hairdryer, towels and eco friendly toiletries are provided. A warm welcome with locally produced and organic food and drink awaits you. We supply organic milk (or oat milk), organic coffees, teas, homemade biscotti, Luscombe Elderflower, organic hot chocolate, olive oil, herbs and salt. We offer a range of bookable extras such as homemade organic sourdough, organic cream teas, chilled organic Prosecco and locally sourced breakfast packs. We provide lots of info about where to shop and eat locally and hope you will join us in supporting our local, independent traders which has a positive impact on the local economy. We are just a few minutes walk from one of the oldest and best pubs in Devon - The Church House Inn, Rattery, with excellent local food and drink. We’re happy to accept babies under 1. Regrettably, the property is not suitable for older children. You might choose to join us for a woodfired cookery class or crafting course at The Bakehouse at Mill Cross Retreats. You can see this information on our website. We provide a selection of maps and local guide books and Devon Life magazines for you to peruse to see what’s on. We’re also on hand to give advice, tips on where to go and what to do. We have a very comprehensive online guidebook linked to our website which we’ll share with you when your booking is confirmed. The cottage has its own private woodfired hot tub. Unlike electric hot tubs, this uses fresh water and no chemicals-so is a real treat under the stars or on a lazy afternoon. We will light it and bring it up to temperature for you. This requires 24 hours notice and is available most of the time provided we are here! The hot tub is £50 for two consecutive days' uses, payable in cash on arrival. It can only be used for two consecutive days before it needs to be drained and cleaned. The hot tub is 1.8m diameter and has a fibreglass liner, steps up and in integral woodburner-a really unique experience. If you book ahead of your visit, you can change your mind at zero cost as long as we have 12 hours notice. Please check the weather immediately prior to your stay and let us know if you’d like to go ahead or not! 1 (occasionally 2) well behaved small/medium dog/s (preferably crate trained) welcome strictly by prior arrangement at an additional charge of £45 (£50 for two) per stay. Dogs are not allowed on the sofa or in the bedroom. Please do not add your dog/s to your booking-contact Emma please as we don’t take bookings with dogs until you have seen and agreed to our Ts and Cs. Due to our lovely soft furnishings, we cannot take large/shaggy dogs. Please note, any damage caused by your dog will be charged to you. We can provide safe bike storage if you would like to take advantage of the cycle routes. The house itself offers light and airy treatment rooms and a well-proportioned ex-billiard room which now hosts regular yoga classes, sound baths and meditation classes, as well as seasonal events. The site itself borders Exmoor National Park and although hidden away, it is conveniently situated just a few minutes outside of Minehead town centre. The local area offers stunning walks, coastal exploration and unspoilt scenery. Days out to Lynton and Lynmouth, Dulverton, Porlock Weir, Dunster and Watchet Harbour are all within easy reach. Minehead offers something for everyone: For keen walkers, the South West Coast Path begins from Minehead Harbour and for golfers, the Minehead and West Somerset Golf club links course offers an opportunity to play on one of the oldest courses in England. For steam enthusiasts, the West Somerset Heritage Steam Railway runs a regular service from Minehead through to Bishop's Lydeard. Mountain biking is popular locally, with tracks within easy reach of the Wellbeing Centre. Watersports are easily found in Minehead and surrounding areas from Porlock Bay to Wimbleball Lake, with equipment hire or courses available from Channel Adventures.

Overview

Perched on the shores of Poole Harbour, one of the largest natural harbors in the world, there are plenty of ways to get on the water in Poole. Swim and build sandcastles at the 3-mile long Sandbanks beach, take a wildlife-watching cruise around Brownsea Island, or try kitesurfing, windsurfing, or stand-up paddleboarding around the harbor. Even camping comes with a view of the water, and there are several holiday parks and camping grounds along the seafront. Away from the coast, explore miles of cycling trails, picnic in the gardens of Upton Country Park, or enjoy wine tasting at a Dorset vineyard.

Where to go

Isle of Purbeck

Forming the southern coast of Poole Harbour, the Purbeck peninsula is fringed by steep limestone cliffs and spectacular coastal walks. Hike across the sea cliffs of Old Harry Rocks, discover the atmospheric ruins of Corfe Castle, or admire the views from the Swanage steam railway. Camping along the peninsula takes you back to nature, whether staying in a forest lodge or parking your motorhome on a working farm.

Jurassic Coast

West of Purbeck, Dorset’s UNESCO-listed Jurassic Coast—so-called for the dinosaur fossils found on its beaches—stretches all the way to Orcombe Point. The coastal hikes here are some of the most impressive in the UK, with soaring cliffs, crumbling castle ruins, and sandy coves. Marvel at landmarks such as the Durdle Door, stay at ocean-view campsites along the way, and don’t forget to sample the region’s famous ale, a staple in local pubs.

Cranborne Chase

Escape to the countryside in the Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Area AONB, just a 30-minute drive north of Poole. Enjoy leisurely walks or bike rides through the downlands, admire wildflowers and rare orchids, and camp amid patchwork farmlands. To the north, the ancient stone circle of Stonehenge is within day-trip distance, while to the south, the Moors Valley Country Park and Forest is a favorite for families.

When to go

May through October has the most pleasant weather for camping in Poole, and the beaches draw big crowds in July and August. Be sure to book ahead if you plan to visit at this time. Winter campers can keep Poole on their itinerary, too. Temperatures rarely drop below freezing and sunny days are still common—just swap your tent for a motorhome or caravan.

Poole has several camping and outdoors stores where you can pick up supplies for your camping trip.
Poole has public transport links to many of the surrounding towns and attractions, but it is handy to have your own transport, especially if staying at rural campsites.
Most campsites require advance booking, and many ask for the full payment in advance. Be sure to check opening dates, as many campsites close in the winter months.
