San Diego Mountain Lodge is a beautiful escape to nature sprawled out over about 40 acres on a breathtaking spot that we call Hideout Mountain in Santa Ysabel, CA. Multiple experiences are offered: -- glamping in our vintage camper trailers, -- RV sites with full hookups and incredible views of Lake Henshaw -- campsites, -- luxury camping in our remodeled cabins (studio, 1br, and 2br cabins) each with different amenities ranging from full kitchens, wood burning fireplaces, large outdoor decks and private fire pits. Gather and share ideas with fellow guests at our community firepit and picnic tables. What makes Hideout Mountain a magical place? #1 on the list are the stunning views as far as the eye can see of Lake Henshaw and the valley and surrounding mountains. We also have a one-of-a-kind, world renowned restaurant and bar on the property: Josie's Hideout Saloon, open on weekends with live music. We are located just a few minutes drive away from downtown Santa Ysabel and Julian, with easy access off Hwy 76.

RV Campsite #16 - The Amphitheater
We loved camping on this site! The views were gorgeous. Campsite #16 was definitely the most spacious. Host was very communicative and helpful. The toilet was a great touch. I appreciated the set up with the soft strong lights, trash can, fire pit, picnic table, and electrical hookup. We ended up tent camping in this spot and can't wait to come back!

RV Campsite #16 - The Amphitheater
Views from the campsite are amazing and being the last spot makes it feel far more remote than the other sites available. Also we arrived on Thanksgiving and the on-site host was still responsive when we had questions while getting setup. In short we have already recommended other family to stay here.

RV Campsite #14 - Lake View Oasis
We camped at site #14 as a birthday trip for myself! Overall it was a very special experience. The site was cozy, the toilets were clean and well stocked, and I loved what we called the “breakfast spot” with the lake view in front of our spot. Ray and Bobby on site were super helpful! One day we were having trouble getting our grill fire going, and Ray offered us extra fire starter and coal. He also recommended views at the top of the campground. We knew it would be cold but it was extra frosty in the tent, and Bobby kindly lent us a heater and extension cord for our second night! I will say the sites were a bit closer than expected upon arrival, so if you want a more private spot I would recommend #16! There hadn’t been much rain so the Lake was a bit low- so perhaps more research on that could make a difference on the view you expect. And the off-leash dog area isn’t fenced in, my dog still had a wonderful time, however he did run into the street which is right next to it (and camp entrance) so just be mindful of that! Anyway, we debated hard about extending our stay because it was very lovely and relaxing overall but maybe another time! Julian nearby was awesome and so was Volcan Mountain trail hike (go alll the way up!!) Also, the fall leaves on the campground we’re beautiful!

The Cove#1: OakTree Shaded Campsite
Beautiful, BUT…
The directions and amenities were clearly labeled and explained by Bobby, the on-site manager, upon arrival. He also personally delivered firewood bundles when we asked where we could purchase them. We had booked both Cove sites with another couple but had to modify due to a family emergency. There was a major miscommunication when modifying and our friends ended up on a different site, tho not too far from us. Then the next day when we were in Julian my friend got a call saying that the site she was moved to got double booked and people would be on the same site that evening. While no one ended up showing up, it was a lot of unnecessary stress and didn’t make for the most relaxing environment.
