Swish little cabins and spacious shepherd’s huts on a Peak District farm

The cabins and shepherd’s huts at Brosterfield Farm offer high-end glamping for couples in the Peak District National Park. On the edge of the village of Foolow, not far from the Hope Valley, this is the very heart of the Peaks. It’s just a few miles north to dramatic gritstone crags and a few miles south to stately homes among the dales. These boltholes on a farm are an ideal place to base yourself if you want to explore it all. Though, it has to be said, they are not a bad place to simply hang out at either. They fit the bill, for example, if your idea of a holiday involves venturing no further than the hot tub outside.

Hot tubs are an optional extra at both of the site’s two shepherd’s huts and at one of the three bespoke timber cabins. Each of these provides self-contained, self-catering accommodation for two with everything you’d expect from a holiday cottage in cuter proportions. Choose a cosy, curvy cabin for a green field setting, a king-sized bed, and a hidden TV that appears at the foot of the bed. Or opt for a shepherd’s hut for more traditional country charm with a log burner to warm the place up. All the cabins and huts have made-up beds, a comfy sofa, a kitchenette, and an en suite shower room and loo. They all have private outdoor space and seating, too, with views of the surrounding countryside.

Whether you’re out exploring that scenery every day or simply gazing at it from your hot tub, The Bull’s Head pub is a handy place for dinner. It’s a walk of just a few minutes. For a longer stroll, the “plague village” of Eyam, a couple of miles away, makes a good destination thanks to another pub and a little museum. Beyond the hyper-local highlights, many of the top spots of the Peak District are within just 10 miles of here. Head in a different direction each day to walk or climb at Stanage Edge, to gasp at Chatsworth House, to explore Castleton and Bakewell, and to cycle the Monsal Trail.

Hare's Retreat - Middle Cabin
Luxurious and beautifullittle Cabin
We had a great stay in Hare’s Retreat and really loved the Cabin! A lot of taste, attention to detail and thought has gone in to fitting the Cabin out and it has everything you need, including a TV that comes up from the end of the bed at a touch of a button. You also get a beautiful view over green countryside from the Cabin and it's outdoor sitting area. Part of our party stayed on the campsite on the same farm and we were able to walk between the Cabin and the campsite within a few minutes walk. Would definitely stay again!

Hare's Retreat - Middle Cabin
Celebrating 50th Birthday weekend
The surrounding space was beautiful. The entire environment as soon as you drove down the drive was stunning, both the grounds of the Brosterfield Farm and the space beyond has a calming effect. We felt ourselves relaxing immediately.

Hare’s Retreat!
We have just enjoyed a long weekend away at Brosterfield Farm in one of their gorgeous cabins. The whole site is spotless, the grounds and views are stunning! The countryside sunset views are unreal! The cabin was beautiful and had everything we needed. There is a pub that is a 10 minute walk away, lots of places to explore that’s just a drive away! We will definitely be back!🥰 Amy, Josh & Bella 🐾

Robin's Nest - Top Cabin
Lovely winter stay
Lovely winters stay in the Robins Nest. The interior was immaculate and very cosy with beautiful countryside sunset views. The hot tub was a great addition, especially stargazing from it in the evening- allow 3 hours to get to correct temperature though. Great location for exploring the peaks.

Meadow's View - Bottom Cabin
Cosy two-night winter stay
Lovely cabin. Comfortable, practical, cosy and warm in winter. We had a lovely couple of days exploring Bakewell and Hathersage, walking at Strange Edge and to Magpie Mine. Didn't see anyone else at the farm. Nice views. Footpath right from the doorstep and, if you book far enough in advance, the fancy Blind Bull pub in Little Hucklow does exceptional food in gastro pub setting.

Hare's Retreat - Middle Cabin
Lovely little hideaway
The mini-cabin we stayed in was warm, had all modern amenities and a very comfortable bed. Thankfully there are options for electric vehicle charging, as the surrounding area is lacking. I hope she didn’t mind us taking the dogs (three) out on the nearby enclosed field early morning and late evening- as they really enjoyed it. The only improvement could have been somewhere on the site to deposit dog poo so we didn’t have to drive it off in our van!

Upon seeing Brosterfield Farm we immediately fell in love with it and realised it was a very special place. We knew that we wanted to create a wonderful family home with high quality accommodation for guests to come and stay and enjoy everything the Peak National Park has to offer. Over the next two years (and many sleepless nights), we have carefully and lovingly restored the farm, the stables and small barn into a beautiful home and a luxury getaway for guests.Penny, Steve, Liv, Harry, Toby and (Digby and Paddington) (the dogs)
Nearby attractions

Brosterfield Farm is on the outskirts of the pretty village of Foolow in the Peak District National Park. You can head out on lovely walks straight from site – including a 45-minute walk to Eyam, another lovely village with a welcoming pub – and a fascinating history, which you can find out about through an exhibition in the church. There is, of course, plenty more great walking, cycling, climbing and caving across the national park. The higher peaks and more dramatic scenery of the Dark Peak, lie north of site with dramatic Stanage Edge (10 miles) a great place to head to for climbing, walking and views. Those with bikes might want to head to Hassop (five miles south) to get on the Monsal Trail. This traffic-free, family-friendly trail on the route of a former railway leads 11 miles to Chee Dale where a limestone gorge surrounds the River Wye. It’s not much further to Chatsworth House (seven miles) and, if one stately home is not enough for you, Haddon Hall (nine miles) is also nearby. Both are close to the market town of Bakewell (seven miles from site).

Food and drink

It’s a short walk (half a mile) from Brosterfield Farm to the local pub in Foolow, The Bull’s Head, which is recommended for food. You won’t want to miss a (very good) pie and a pint at The Barrel Inn in nearby Breton either (just under two miles away). This traditional inn has good food and a garden with spectacular views. If you’re visiting Eyam, two miles down the road, there are cafes, tea rooms and another pub, The Miner’s Arms, which all offer welcoming places to refuel before the walk back. There’s also a restaurant and deli, The Coolstone, serving local produce in Eyam Hall. If you want more than what’s on offer there for your own cooking back on site, you can pick up supplies from the well-stocked Spar at Calver, three miles away.
