Magical, secluded glamping in the Wye Valley, yards from the Offas Dyke trail

Traditional Yurt. Hideaway Hut. Camping Cabin. Gypsy Camp.

Each of these spaces have been created using upcycled materials, naturally made, as if they have magically grown out of their surroundings. They are on the edge of sunny dry stone walled paddocks, skirting the ancient mossy woodland that is Hudnalls nature reserve.

The spaces are designed for adults, secluded, each space has its own privacy. Peaceful, Self contained, we provide everything you need, for all weathers, so you can pack light.

Embrace the outdoors while nestled in your big warm bed, from which you can gaze at the tree canopy. Each accommodation, has a fully equip kitchen, a woodfired hot tub, open air hot shower, separate loo, breakfast included.

We are in an AONB, on the Offa’s Dyke Path, and Wye Valley ramble. So many Footpaths for you and your dog to explore. We provide maps and route to local pub.

Canoe the River Wye, mountain bike the Forest of Dean. Fill up with fresh air, daydream, listen to birdsong, forest bathe, gaze at the stars.

Hideaway Hut on edge of woodland
Forget Jabba, this is the guy…
This place is the nuts. I stayed for three nights in the Hut and it was just sublime. I wanted a place where I could get away from civilisation for a few days and this spot provides exactly that. Everything you need outside of your consumables is provided for you. The facilities are well above standard. Hot water on demand (the shower is better than what I’ve got in my flat. I’m actually missing it) and the bed is super comfortable. Don’t be tight, pay for the use of the hot tub. Expect to get it wrong the first time you reheat it, learn from your mistake and then enjoy the process of heating your own tub. It’s gorgeous. Anna and John-Paul were perfect hosts. They completely respected my privacy and were on hand if I needed them which, beyond directions for a hike, I didn’t. If you don’t have your own dog to take then Rider is onsite to keep you company on hikes or around the hot tub if you want him. I had the best time hanging out with him (warm up your throwing arm. That boy loves a stick) All this is to say that I had an amazing time here. Don’t think, just book. You won’t regret it. I’ll be back again before the summer has chipped off.

Hideaway Hut on edge of woodland
Amazing glamping experience!
Amazing little cabin in the perfect setting tto make you forget the outside world. The hideaway hut was the best location of the three on the campsite to as it was at the end of the trail so the other guests didn't have to pass you to get to the yurt or the cabin. Anna was lovely and friendly and had some good knowledge of the area if you needed it. Would recommend to anyone as a great place to relax and unwind but not be too far from civilisation if you need it and the Brecon Beacons are not too far for some hiking and beautiful scenery.

Traditional Yurt in magical paddock
Magical Yurt in the Forest of Dean
Me and my two girls 7 and 10 stayed 2nights at Anna's magical woodland campground togther with our dog over the Easter Break and absolutly loved it. Despite the cold and wet weather the yurt was super cosy and warm with the woodburner going all the time and big enough for all for of us! The yurt and adjoining two cabins are beautifully designed, full of rustic charm and individual personality. Everything we needed for an easy and relaxing glamping experience was provided. Top hot shower and hot tub, great outdoor cooking facilities and nice compost loo! Anna and her family are lovely and super helpful and the surrounding landscape stunning! We will be back!

Hideaway Hut on edge of woodland
Quiet getaway
We had a great weekend staying in the hut. Beautiful, quiet site, surrounded by gorgeous woodland. We did not want to come home and would love to return one day. The hut had everything we needed for a quiet weekend away from everyday life.

Hideaway Hut on edge of woodland
Truly magical forest relaxation
The cabin is perfect, so so comfy and cosy, with lots of little personal touches that make it extra special. It’s right on the edge of ancient woodland so the sound of birdsong completely surrounds you. Anna is a wonderful host who came to our rescue and fixed the lights in the shower room ASAP. The compost loo is probably the most charming toilet I’ve ever seen! We booked the Shinrin Yoku Forest Bathing and it was brilliant - the 2 hours flew by and we were totally immersed in the forest and it’s healing energies. Can’t recommend the Hideaway Hut enough, it is truly magical and we would love to come back someday! Thank you for having us :)

Nearby attractions

Oak Cottage is situated on the Offas Dyke Path and the Wye Valley Ramble, so there are plenty of walking and cycling trails on your doorstep. Hire canoes for a day of adventure on the Wye (all hire outlets let you hire for half or full days and pick you up downstream, so you need only drift along with the current). Tintern is a 10-minute drive away, home to several pubs as well as a vineyard, brewery and the gothic Tintern Abbey in all its roofless beauty. If you’re a Netflix fan, you might also want to visit the main filming spots from Sex Education, all nearby – The house Otis lives in with his mum is just up the road from Oak Cottage and so is the corner shop they regularly visit; Anna will happily give you directions to both if you fancy trying your luck at getting a cameo role! And for the film buffs, the Forest of Dean is around a 20-minute drive away; J.K. Rowling lived here as a child, likely why it features in the film version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, as well as other films like King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

Food and drink

The Miners (01594836632) in Sling is a 15-minute drive away; the gastropub has won lots of awards for their modern British food made from local produce and is made even better when paired with their servings of local ale. Owner, Steve, has worked with some of the best chefs in the country, and it shows. The oak-beamed Globe Inn (01594528300) in Alvington is under five minutes away in the car or a little more than a half-hour walk. It has a cosy log fire in winter and a good beer garden in summer. The Ostrich Inn (01594833260) in Clearwell takes around 20 minutes to reach. It's dog friendly and has a large walled garden and outdoor patios for enjoy the summer sunshine.
