A beautifully-crafted shepherd’s hut and a custom-made canvas tent are the heart of this exclusive-hire glamping site in a farmer’s field in Wiltshire. But that’s not all you get by booking a stay here. You also get a bell tent, a camp kitchen, a fire pit, and five acres all to yourselves – with the option of a wood-fired hot tub too. And why not? It seems like the perfect finishing touch to a hideaway that specialises in rustic, off-grid glamping for groups of up to 10.
With sleeping spaces split across two tents and the shepherd’s hut, Milton Farm Hideaway works best for two or three families or couples who want to holiday together. Everyone can gather around the fire pit or the cedar wood dining table of the camp kitchen and the whole group can play together in the field – but you also have plenty of your own space. The shepherd’s hut is, perhaps, the top spot thanks to the fact that it has its own kitchen, a log burner and an en suite. It sleeps three in a double bed with a bunk above. Another three can sleep in the bell tent and four more can occupy the custom-made tent. All are furnished and you can choose whether to bring your own bedding and towels for a great-value stay or book with everything provided for an easy weekend away.
You’ll find a guestbook in your accommodation that champions the local area and helps you get the best of your time here. This is the Cranbourne Chase National Landscape, part of rural west Wiltshire that’s known for its natural beauty and full of good food. Local walks are detailed to steer you to some of the nearby highlights; to the village of Hindon and its lovely pub, The Grosvenor Arms, or to English Heritage’s Old Wardour Castle. Shaftesbury is just six miles away and you’re close enough to Wiltshire’s big-hitting attractions for a visit: Longleat Safari Park and Stonehenge are both within a half-hour drive.
