Cosy shepherd's huts with hot tubs, set alongside a tranquil fishing lake.

The clue’s in the name with Serenity Lakes, a peaceful Suffolk retreat where three well-equipped shepherd’s huts are positioned along a picturesque fishing lake. An adults-only escape for those looking to de-stress, not only are the cosy huts primed for a romantic getaway, but the on-site sauna, wood-fired hot tubs, and private patios—complete with handmade fire pits—make this an excellent destination for couples in need of relaxation.

Serenity Lakes is located behind a working farm and equestrian centre near the small market town of Haverhill, though despite it being tucked away in the countryside, it’s only a drive away from bustling Cambridge. There’ll be no such commotion at camp, though, with guests able to spend their day swinging in the hammock next to the lake or fishing alongside the water. Hosted by experienced angler Andy, this is a Hipcamp ideal for those seeking a fishing holiday or first timers interested in giving it a go.

The huts themselves provide everything you need and a little extra for a relaxing break. Inside there are comfy king-size beds with memory foam mattresses, a stylish kitchen, and a snug dining area, along with a modern bathroom boasting a surprisingly large shower. Step outside to a view of the lake, with your own private hot tub adjacent—available to book for your personal use—and a sauna cabin nearby. If that doesn't sound restful enough, take a scenic stroll along the area's quiet country roads flanked by sprawling fields—there are two popular local pubs within walking distance.

Lakeside Shepherd's Hut 1
Beautiful Shepherds hut
I absolutely loved my stay at Serenity lakes. The Shepherd's huts are tucked away in the beautiful countryside surrounded by nature, the perfect place to relax and get away from it all. The huts are very cozy and well equipped, each hut on the outside also has a wood fired hot tub, fire pit and a bbq which all look out over a lake which happens to also be a fishing lake! There's plenty of countryside walks too surrounding the property. I hope to come back and visit again!

Lakeside Shepherd's Hut 1
Lodge 1
This was our first time at Serenity lakes, beautiful set up, we stayed in lodge 1 and had friends in lodge 2, very clean and tidy. Was lovely using the hot tub of an evening after a nice bbq. Absolutely everything provided for, from bbq utensils to shower gels and towels. Really lovely place to relax and I shall definitely be returning.

Beautiful lakeside glamping spot on the back of a small farm and livery yard. It is a quiet oasis of calm. Each shepherds hut has it's own wood fire hot tub available (for a small charge) alongside a terrace with bespoke sculptural firepit and BBQ. There are hammock nests dotted around the lake and a sauna pod for use of guests. The lake is well stocked with specimen carp and is a wonderful if a little challenging, fishing spot for the experienced fisherman.
Nearby attractions

Head into Cambridge for a day out in the beautiful city, where you can take a tour of the staggeringly impressive Fitzwilliam Museum, its collections housing items from ancient Egypt to Rome and beyond. Head outdoors for a scenic walk along the river Cam, where you can also go punting for a chauffeured river tour on its waters. For more history, venture into the towering Gothic structure of the King's College Chapel, an awe-inspiring sight and famous for its choir service, which each year broadcasts A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at Christmastime.

Food and drink

The site sits almost equal distance between The Oak (formerly known as The Cock) and the Three Horseshoes, both being around a 20-minute walk. The Oak's a charming little pub in the small village of Castle Camps, situated "just an acorn's drop" away from its lovely village green. Food is served from Wednesday to Saturday, with real fires, two bars, and a nice beer garden for the summer. The Three Horseshoes is a community-owned pub in the village of Helions Bumpstead, with a changing seasonal menu along with a popular Sunday lunch, and community-focused additions such as a fruit and veg stall that sets up shop every Thursday.
