A shepherd’s hut on a traditional New Forest farm

Stud Farm Glamping offers the chance to stay in a shepherd’s hut in the peaceful surroundings of the New Forest National Park. You can watch horses in the fields around you, ponies on the heath, and try to spot deer in nearby woodlands. And, in addition to all that, because Stud Farm is in the south of the national park, you're also close to the coast. In fact, beaches are just five miles away. It’s a great location for anyone who wants to explore both the country and the coast. Dogs (and even horses) are welcome.

The glamping at Stud Farm is a small enterprise on a traditional New Forest farm. Shepherd’s Hut Riverside is one of just three shepherd’s huts here. Each is self contained with its own kitchenette, toilet, shower, and outside space. Within it you’ll find an outdoor bath. This, and the solar-powered fairy lights, make the hut a lovely spot for a romantic break but it’s just as enchanting for kids—and they are welcome here. The sleeping space is a double bunk, which means there's room for a young family of four. It’s cosy inside with the warm tones of timber on well-insulated walls as well as a log burner. The kitchenette is in here too, with the shower and toilet a few steps outside in a separate, but private, hut.

Choose a stay at Stud Farm and you find yourself on the sleepy outskirts of the village of Sway. You can walk or cycle a short distance up the road to find yourself on the open-access land that the New Forest is famous for. Or you can drive four miles and find yourself in the charming town of Lymington. Another mile and you can be on the beach looking over the Solent towards the Isle of Wight.

Welcome to our beautiful off grid Shepherds hut with separate Shepherds hut private bathroom, both huts are set in idillic country side setting away from all the hustle and bustle of modern life. lighting in the Shepherds hut is solar powered and controlled with a hand remote. There is also a solar usb charger for your phones. Additional battery lamps are also provided as back up, it also has its own battery operated pretty fairy lights for a romantic setting. Separate small shepherds hut houses chemical toilet with flush, basin and hot rain shower. Water to the basin and shower is hot and heated by a LPG gas heater. There is also a remote control solar light and additional battery operated lanterns inside the hut. The sleeping hut houses a kitchen, and a raised double bed and there is room under the bed for hanging clothes and additional space for a floor double pocket sprung mattress. Children love sleeping in this area as it feels like their own den. The kitchen area in the Shepherds Hut has gas single hob and gas built in oven. There is also a sink and hot and cold tap. Washing up liquid, cloths and tea towels provided. We also have a 3 way cold fridge that runs from lpg gas. We provide milk, tea, coffee, eggs and sugar for your stay. Cutlery and crockery is found in the inside camp kitchen, along with a rubbish bin. Dinning can either be around the camp fire or if the weather isn’t up to it then we have a small table stored under the bed in the Shepherds Hut, that can be brought out and used inside the shepherds hut for cozy feel. The shepherds hut is insulated with wool and there is a wood burning stove for heat. (Wood provided). The outside kitchen has a wood fire pit with tripod to hang kettle and pots on to boil water or toast your marshmallows, which we will provide for you. We also have cast iron toasted sandwich maker, frying pans and pots to cook over the open fire with. Wood is also provided for your stay along with fire lighters and matches. Outside is also a wood fired oven with chimney. The oven part has a temperature gauge and glass door with a shelf to cook pizzas, jacket potatoes, stews, etc. Below the oven is the fire box that needs adding wood to maintain the heat. Takes about 20 to 30 mins to heat up to 200C. The huts have outdoor solar fairy lights that come on when it gets dark and there are candles outside to use around camp fire for a relaxed setting. Also outside on raised oak floor is a beautiful slipper bath with hot and cold water. Bath outside under candle light and twinkling of stars at night. The bath is behind a modesty screen, which allows you to take in the open views of the river and fields during the day, whilst maintaining your privacy.

River View Hut
We had a wonderful stay in the little hut. It was well equipped with everything we needed and had lots of private space outside to play, relax, cook and also soak in the tub. The firewood was well stocked and we enjoyed a few nights of stargazing too. We tried our hand at fishing in the stream without any luck and enjoyed seeing the horses in the fields and my son loved feeding the pigs. The hosts were wonderfully helpful and very friendly, with advice on places to visit nearby too.

Remarkable 2-nights stay
Nick is a great host, who made the trip truly special for us and our kids. From the parking lot he picked us/ our luggage up with a tractor 🚜 and explained all the facilities of the hut in detail. We enjoyed the open air hot tub twice and had a great BBQ over the fire pit. We also baked self-made pizza in the gas oven. The time passed so quickly that we didn't even leave the farm and stayed there all the time. I am sure we created long lasting memories for/with our children as we could feed the pigs and horses and play with the straw.

Our stay in the New Forest
A very peaceful and relaxing stay at Stud Farm! Amanda was really accommodating and couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. We felt really at home and the hut had everything we could need with a comfy bed, cooking and wash facilities, fridge and oven. The shower and toilet was everything we needed and the outdoor bath was a real bonus! Thank you for our stay!

Stud Farm is 25 acres of natural pasture land. It gently slopes into the Avon water valley, which is a small river that flows into the Solent at Keyhaven. We are a farm with mainly horses, but we also have 2 pet pigs. We are surrounded by the New Forest National park and coastline. Cycling, walking, horse riding, golf, theme park, water sports
Nearby attractions

Stud Farm Glamping is a mile outside the village of Sway which is four miles from the harbour town of Lymington and four miles from Brockenhurst in the south of the New Forest National Park. It’s a good location for walkers, cyclists, sailing enthusiasts and horse riders. In fact, stabling can be provided if you want to bring your own horse, if booked in advance. You can spot the village from far and wide thanks to a Victorian folly, Sway Tower, that stands 218-foot tall. It’s not open to visitors but can’t be missed on a visit here. Attractions you can visit nearby include the Sammy Miller Motor Museum (three miles), Beaulieu National Motor Museum (11 miles) and, for families, Paulton’s Park and Peppa Pig World (17 miles). The closest beaches are at Barton-on-Sea and New Milford (five miles). New Milford is a lovely town with lots of facilities including paddleboard and kayak hire. It connects seamlessly to quieter Barton-on-Sea at its western end which is a good place to swim – and to look for fossils. There’s great cliff-top walking on this stretch of the coast too. On the other side of New Milford, the coast stretches towards the Isle of Wight at Keyhaven where there’s good birdwatching, a castle and lighthouse.

Food and drink

The village of Sway, a mile away, has a village shop and a butchers which are handy if you want to cook at your shepherd’s hut. There are supermarkets and more shops in Lymington too. If you want to dine out nearby at breakfast or lunch, perhaps head for The Forest Deli in the village. There are two pubs which do food within two miles of the site: the dog-friendly Hare and Hounds in Sway and The Plough Inn in Tiptoe. Both have outdoor seating. Lymington and Brockenhurst also have plenty of cafes, pubs and eateries. On the coast, try The Needle’s Eye Cafe at New Milford for breakfast or lunch with sea views.
