Holiday cabins with hot tubs on the North Cornish Coast

A five-minute drive from the beach at Crackington Haven, and 15 minutes from Bude and Boscastle is where you’ll find Tamarisk Holiday Cabins. These simple dog-friendly boltholes are situated on a community farm in an excellent location just three miles inland of Cornwall’s north coast. It’s a peaceful place to stay that feels off the beaten track but is still within easy reach of the sights. In fact, you can walk to the beach in about an hour from here. And after days in the surf, on the sands or hiking in the hills, the cabins are a great base to return to. Salty skin can be refreshed in the en suite shower, muscles can be soothed in the hot tub and dinner can be eaten al fresco on the deck – all before a good night’s sleep in your comfortable cabin bed.

This is glamping that’s as close to a holiday cottage as it gets. All the elements of a self-catering stay are included, albeit in pint-sized proportions. Kerensa Cabin in particular is a bijou place to stay and designed just for two – though your dog is welcome as well. And while it’s rather quasint it’s not without mod cons. This hand-built cabin has electricity and running water, WiFi and even a Smart TV. The kitchenette offers a kettle, toaster, fridge and hob.

Trelay Farm, where Kerensa and the other cabins (bookable elsewhere) are based, is a 32-acre community farm that’s home to several families living as sustainably and harmoniously as they can. Your stay here contributes to that. It’s a 15-minute walk away from the nearest pub and shop and in a location with plenty of North Cornish hotspots nearby. In addition to the surf of Bude and the harbour village of Boscastle, there’s Tintagel, Port Isaac and Bodmin Moor all within half an hour’s drive.

Kerensa cabin is our little shephards hut style cabin for 2. With a comfy double cabin bed, smart tv, wifi, a little kitchnette area and small shower room and toilet. It also has a private Oforu style wood fired hot tub, with added jets for extra luxury.

Kerensa Cabin
Cosy and cute pet friendly cabin
My husband, dog and I thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend here and will definitely recommending for friends. Very quiet and peaceful stay (even though the other two cabins were occupied) and the dog enjoyed lazing by the radiator when we weren’t out walking to Crackington Haven - which is 45mins walk from the site. Our 2 person cabin had a wood fired hot tub, which was fantastic. Do keep a close eye on it though and keep your wood dry to get the temp up quick - we had a bit of rain on the second day and we forgot to take our wood inside but it still produced a warm dip :) We loved every minute of the stay and enjoyed a very chilled weekend!

Kerensa Cabin
Sadly sloppy
The cabin was very sweet, very well insulated, (in addition to a very good heater provided) and the bed was very cosy. The decking needed cleaning as was very slippery. The hot tub hadn’t been cleaned, it was covered in slime. There seemed to be a bag of dog do left next to a plant pot on the decking. Could’ve done with dusting away cobwebs. The facilities inside the cabin were great. Fridge and small freezer, toaster, kettle and a small hob. The bathroom was decent, with a lovely rainforest shower. Easy directions to follow to access cabin. Just a bit of shame that overall it was just a bit sloppy and didn’t seem like it had been cleaned properly, (used glasses left outside). Sadly a nice one off for us.

Tamarisk Cabins are 3 handmade glamping cabins on our 32 acre community Farm on the North Cornish Coast. Our farm is in the remote countryside, with a small number if livestock and our own veg patch and polytunnel. There are some beautiful walks nearby but we are also just 15 mins from Bude where you can enjoy great restaurants, shops, watersports and cycling.
Nearby attractions

The surrounding countryside is pleasant for walking and if you want one on the coast, it’s easy thanks to the South West Coast Path. You could walk in an hour (or drive in a few minutes) to Crackington Haven to join it and head off in either direction. Crackington Haven is the nearest beach to site (three miles). It’s a sand and shingle cove surrounded by cliffs. There are more options around Bude (eight miles) which has seven sandy beaches to choose from and plenty of facilities including surfboard hire and lessons available. Boscastle (nine miles) is a typical harbour village on the North Cornish Coast that’s a similar distance away. A few miles south of Boscastle is Tintagel (12 miles) with its iconic clifftop castle and beyond that is Port Isaac (18 miles), another fishing village that’s famous as the location for TV programme Doc Martin and for sea shanty singers, Fisherman’s Friends. The edge of Bodmin Moor is about nine miles from site for inland adventures.

Food and drink

As a treat for your arrival, why not order the Cornish cream tea (scones, jam and cream - in that order) that’s offered by your hosts as an extra? There’s also the option to buy half a dozen eggs from the farm. For more than that stop at the supermarket in Launceston (17 miles) on the way here or head just up the road to Wainhouse Country Stores which is well stocked with all the basics. It’s next door to the closest place for a meal out too: The Old Wainhouse Inn, about half a mile up the road, on the A39. It’s a country pub with a good menu of pub food. There’s another option four miles away in Tresparrett, The Horsehose Inn, which offers good food and good beer. Crackington Haven (three miles) also has its own pub, The Coombe Barton Inn, two cafes and another local shop.
