A flat field, drinking water taps, showers and somewhere undercover to do the washing up… Lagnersh Camping in West Sussex has all the basics covered. And it’s friendly and laid back too. This is a place where you can have a campfire, bring the dog and camp with kids. Tents, campervans and motorhomes are all equally welcome and you can take your pick between electric and non-electric pitches. It’s hard to please all types of camper – but this site is certainly giving it a go. Its location also gives you plenty of options. It feels pretty rural here but it’s incredibly close to a lot. The thrills and spills of Bognor Regis are just down the road, the beach at Pagham is almost as close and Chichester is a 10-minute drive. It’s also a great base for events at Goodwood which is only six miles away.
The campsite is a wedge of green between farmer’s fields that’s sheltered by hedgerows. It’s a nice place to pitch a tent and, generally speaking, a peaceful place to hang out. Electric pitches are designated but otherwise this is a pitch-where-you-please site and one where you can park up next to your tent. Folk tend to opt for the edges of this six-acre site which leaves kids to run free in the middle. There’s plenty of room for football and cricket and a little kids’ play area too. From a practicality point of view, the site is low-key but well set up. There’s a kitchen shed that offers a handy electric kettle, fridge and freezer as well as washing up sinks. There are unisex flushing toilets and hot-water showers in converted containers.
Once your ablutions are complete it’s time to head out for the day – if you can drag your kids away from their new-found friends. The promise of ice cream at the seaside might tempt them. Nearby Bognor is the obvious choice but if its prom is too bustling for you, there’s West Wittering and Bracklesham Bay, both 10 miles away. And then there’s inland West Sussex which is perhaps more well to do: there's Chichester and Arundel with their cathedrals, motorsports at Goodwood and plenty of glorious Sussex countryside as well.
