Creature comforts
Enjoy the comforts of home in nature — including real toilets, showers, and kitchen.
Willey Lane Farm is a post medieval farmstead situated in a secluded location in the hills of north Herefordshire between the village of Lingen and the Welsh border town of Presteigne, the former County town of Radnorshire, in the Welsh Marches. The farm is predominately permanent pasture (usually grazed by sheep) with a significant area of ancient semi-natural woodland, a small area of lavender and a quiet seasonal micro campsite (2 pitches only in a 1.4 acre orchard) with superb views to the east. Willey Lane Yurts now has two 16ft diameter yurts, Violet and Lavender, each of which has a private bathroom and a private washing up room. Each yurt is equipped with a king sized bed with side lights, two chests of drawers, a two ring gas hob with saucepans and a frying pan, a food storage cupboard, a clothes rack, a table and benches and a wood burning stove. Violet has, in addition, two mattresses suitable for children. All bedding and towels are included in the price. Outside there is a dining table and chairs, sun loungers and a firepit. There is easy access to Ludlow (medieval market town), Hay-on-Wye (the town of books), Leominster (medieval town) , The Black & White Village Trail (old oak timber framed houses), Elan Valley Dams (Birmingham's water supply), Offa’s Dyke Centre (in Kington, a medieval market town), Spaceguard Centre (a working observatory monitoring near earth objects), Wapley Hill Fort (an iron age hill fort), etc.A 16 foot diameter yurt with king sized bed, electric side lights, storage units, twin burner gas hob, cooking pots, cutlery, crockery, and wood burning stove The yurt, which has a dedicated private bathroom and a dedicated washing up area, is situated in our orchard

Upgrading to a yurt this year
With kids
This was our second trip to Willey Lane Farm. Last year we camped; this year, my daughter persuaded me to upgrade to the luxury of one of the yurts that were not quite ready at the time of our visit last year. She was not disappointed. We stayed in Violet, which has a comfortable bed and two single futons for children. My daughter loved the fairy lights and the beautifully put together yurt. We were able to cook much more appetising meals using the gas stove in the yurt which was supplied with all the equipment we needed. We made use of the fire pit and toasted marshmallows. Again we loved the peace and quiet and the relaxing views accross the valley, and enjoyed watching the red kite patrolling the woods and the swifts darting about each morning and evening. Our hosts were attentive and available, but concerned also to give us the space to enjoy sharing the lovely spot they have made the most of. As last year, we were only sorry to leave too soon.

Lovely couple, we arrived very late but they helped us settle in and showed us round. Great shower and toilet, cleanest we have seen while camping! Great spot with a great view and nearest town is only 5m always. For the price it’s a winner!! Great stop to break up the driving to Snowden.

My daughter and I loved our stay at Willey Lane Farm. It's a beautiful, quiet site with lovely views of the valley and the woods. Our hosts were very welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. They provided us with details of the area, advice about where to visit (and how to get there) and where to eat. We took up the offer of a delicious breakfast one morning (making up for my woeful cooking of the previous evening)! The facilities are great. The yurts had not been completed at the time of our stay, so we had a bathroom and washing up area to ourselves, but even with the yurts occupied I would imagine it would still feel quite luxurious. (They look very comfortable inside too, by the way.) The washing up area had sponges and washing up liquid provided, plus a toaster. The farm down the road breeds dogs and there is quite a lot of barking at feeding time, plus the calls of peacocks from somewhere, but it's idyllic otherwise and we spent a happy time just watching the house martins when they emerged and the red kite circling. We had a lovely day out visiting the Small Breeds Farm Park and the Water Garden and completed a wonderful circular walk on and off the Offa's Dyke Path the next day. We certainly hope to be back next year.
