The ultimate Farm Solitude Camping experience. If you want to get away from it all and relax in a secluded Campsite surrounded by beautiful Native Bushland or explore miles of trails, gullies, caves, Flight Springs Creek and the exquisite Bow River, take some time to camp at Hillside, which is a remote 2000 acre working cattle property situated 23km west of MERRIWA, 17 km off the Golden Highway, adjoining the Goulburn River National Park.
All sites are in secluded area's far away from each other but at busy times people may pass by some sites to access the river. There are plenty of walking trails and for the enthusiastic bushwalker, the Bow River winds its way 7km down to the Goulburn River through the National Park with its gentle flowing stream and rock pools nestled between sandstone cliffs of caves with open area's.
There is an abundance of wildlife to see.
All sites are pet friendly, but pets must be kept on leash and cleaned up after.
Campfires are allowed when there are no restrictions. Cut firewood is available on request $20 lots, cash only.
4WD and High vehicles are recommended as tracks have rocky outcrops and some areas of loose sand. Some sites can be accessed by 2WD. The Bow River area is strictly 4WD (Low Range) access ONLY as it is extremely steep with loose gravel and rocky outcrops. AWD (All wheel drive) vehicles will not get back out.
Outback 4WD tracks are now open for campers to explore as well as Hidden Valley, which has walking trail access to the Bow River.
"Gully View Campsite" is the closest site to the property entrance. Great for overnight stays. It can be set up as a communal campground for larger groups.
Guests are required to be fully self-contained with their own toilet/shower facilities and must take all waste and rubbish with them on departure.
*Most Campsites now have toilets.
Phone Service is very limited in this area. If you email a request, it may take a few hours for us to reply.
We also do Vinyl, Canvas and Leather repairs during your stay in most cases.
WARNING: There are many areas of cliff edges and shear drops! Children must be supervised at all times while exploring these areas. There are also dams at or near some of the campsite areas that could be dangerous if children wander off exploring alone.
Bow River Campsite, hosted by Dave, offers a serene and spacious camping experience, perfect for those seeking tranquility and adventure. Campers consistently highlight the vastness of the land, allowing for privacy and exploration without the crowded feel. The property is brimming with wildlife and scenic views, with plenty of trails for hiking and a river for cooling off. We loved camping at the Gully View site on Daves property! It was a beautiful getaway, to disconnect and reset.
Dave was extremely accomodating and was very attentive. The property is very well kept and all the wildlife were very happy campers also!
David’s property is beautiful. He is a fantastic host and made us feel more than welcome. We had booked Gully View but David suggested Shephards Gully and it was perfect! The camp sites are well positioned with plenty of distance between them. The site toilets are clean and very handy. David is relaxed, considerate and helpful. There are plenty of tracks and areas to explore or just sit and enjoy the serenity. Thank you David! We’re looking forward to our next visit!
A beautiful location with a welcoming host. Some great 4wd trails and r tracks for walking with the family. Awesome spot to stargaze and get away from the city.
The hosts are outstanding people. Very approachable and knowledgeable of their property.
A quick drive through the property and you can see the effort put into helping everyone explore the picturesque landscape.
Most tracks to explore are aimed for beginners appropriately. With gentle obstacles for the more experienced drivers.
A hidden valley to find will open up to a flowing Bow River after a short walk.
Not enough time, will need to return to the seclusion. Although there were other campers. We didn’t cross one in 3 days.
We loved our stay at Hillside Camp, we stayed at both the Gully View and Kangaroo Camp sites, we really enjoyed both sites they are very well maintained and so much space. Dave was a great host, we helpful and friendly. We loved the river, bush walks and 4WD tracks, the addition of the maps was very helpful. Such a beautiful property, we will definitely be back! Thanks Dave and Lisa!
We had a terrific night stay at Eagles View. The campsite it self is flat, has an in ground fire pit and amazing almost 360° views. It was a clear, calm starry night we presented us with an epic night sky. We also drove the outback 4WD track which was fun. David is a personable host. He guided us to our site, gave us plenty of info on the property and checked in on us before we left. I would highly recommend this site to anyone.
