32 ft fifth wheel · With kids · We spent a long weekend at the Hilltop Hideaway and had a peaceful and relaxing time. We have a smaller fifth-wheel, and thanks to the recently cut hay field, we were able to make it down the hill. The first turn on the driveway was a little tricky due to the incline, but raising the ball on our Anderson hitch made leaving easier.
The area near the pond was unlevel—if you’re planning to camp there, be ready to feel like you're setting up on the side of a mountain! We ended up finding a better spot a bit farther away but still down the hill. The water in the pond was very low, likely because of the ongoing drought.
We read about frogs with megaphones in other reviews, but apparently, they had the night off during our stay because it was nice and quiet. No barking dogs or traffic noise—just the peaceful sounds of nature.
The site was a little overgrown, and the fire pit was made from an old tire rim, which was small but did the job. We saw some cows and two badgers near the pond, which was a fun surprise. We didn’t use the outhouse, but having that option was good.
One highlight was visiting the Meigs County Farmers Market by the river, where we picked up delicious breads and wagyu steaks. The clear skies and zero light pollution made for perfect stargazing at night.
Overall, we had a good, quiet stay. If you plan to camp right by the water, be prepared for uneven ground near the pond.
