This Lassen National Forest campground is about an hour northeast of Chico in the Sierra Nevada foothills.

Set in a pine forest at 4,700 feet in elevation, it’s a popular spot where Central Valley residents come to cool down in the summer. Butte Creek runs right past the campground, and there are a variety of hiking, biking, and fishing opportunities nearby. The campground's pet-friendly campsites come with picnic tables and fire pits, plus access to vault toilets and water. There are no hookups or dump stations. Cherry Hill Campground is open from mid-May through September.

Tips for Snagging a Campsite Reservation

  • All 26 Cherry Hill campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Because the campground can fill up during summer and on weekend dates, your best bet to snag a site may be to arrive at the campground early or shoot for a Monday through Thursday arrival.
  • If Cherry Hill is full, you may be able to find a site nearby at Potato Patch Campground, Alder Creek Campground, or Elam Campground.
  • When to Go

The Cherry Hill Campground is open from mid-May through September. Summer highs are in the mid-80s, with lows in the 60s—bring bug repellent for summer trips. For spring or fall camping, when lows dip into the 50s, pack warm layers. Fall visitors may get to see some foliage color changes in the region's deciduous trees. For info on current campground conditions and open season details, you can call the Almanor Ranger Station at (530) 258-2141.
