Weekend Trip to Spirit Walk - Private Retreat

Such a heavenly location! We stayed at the playhouse, it was cute and cozy. The grounds were well kept and really charming. Loved the proximity to the river and having an outdoor kitchen was fun too, don’t get to cook outdoors everyday. Would def go back!

3 nights at The Painted Lake

Jeremy's land was so beautiful! I loved kayaking in the lake, waking up to gorgeous sunrises out the windows, and petting the dogs, goats, horses, chickens. Jeremy and his whole family were really sweet to be around when we did run in to them on the property, and as a host he was quite helpful if we ever had questions or requests. Would definitely stay here again.

Macala was absolutely beautiful, our hosts were gracious, and the camping facilities were superior & very clean. The grounds were expansive with various farming endeavors including olive groves, fruit trees, & vinyards. Views of SoCal’s largest mountains surround this farm in the canyons heading into wine country. Highly recommend a trip here, and be sure to take home some of their internationally acclaimed olive oils as well as other delicious offerings.

Amazing spot! Super worth it and I highly recommend it to others also the description matched perfectly. One thing we did notice was a white dog roaming around the campsite and near us but it didn't bother us during our stay.

We had a great time camping here! The host John was very helpful and had some great info on the area and things to do with our kids. The site was super spacious and had so much firewood available to burn for our campfire. Showers were pleasant, large and warm!! The location was quiet and peaceful and we would have stayed here longer if time allowed! The site is a short drive to Groveland and endless hikes. Definitely a site we will be returning to!

Weekend Trip to ArtFarm Movie Ranch & Nomad NeXuS

ArtFarm was a lot of fun for us and our teenage girls. We had great time with our doggo having free rein and our cozy cabin still had enough room for board games and meals. Communal kitchen and bathroom were clean and convenient. Our youngest really enjoyed feeding the goats and chickens. Hiking nearby as well. Staff super friendly and accommodating. First time using HipCamp, thanks for a great experience!

Loved camping here! Everyone was so welcoming and friendly! Check in was easy and the farm was beautiful! There was only one other group there and the only time we ran into them was waiting for the clean bathroom nearby! There are plenty of spaces to set up the tent and the actual site was huge for 2 people! So much room for a group and activities around the site. Did not want to leave! The boulders provided great privacy from the other campers and everyone was respectful of the noise level. No complaints and can’t wait to return soon! Thank you for your hospitality!

Our stay at Villa Macala was great. It was quiet, peaceful and the site was well placed. We had awesome views from the "Bee Box" site. This site had a new table/bench combo, two extra benches, definitely plenty of seating. Our host David was really helpfull during our stay. I definitely recommend this place for someone who wants to get away from the city. Hope to come back another time.

Weekend Trip to Vinyl Vineyards

Such a great little spot!!!! I came with my campervan and my dog and spent just a night but wish I had stayed longer! Site 10 is so nice. It's at the end of the row so looking in one direction is empty and just landscape and views. Neighbors in 9 were close but totally fine and honestly I like saying hi to people so it was perfect. My dog has a short coat so it wasn't an issue but there does seem to be a lot of foxtails on the edges of the roads and sites so just to keep in mind! The bathrooms looked to be a short walk but I was self contained so didn't get to utilize. Nighttime was quiet and calm. Would love to come back! Plug vinyl vineyards into your gps and it's an easy ride into camp.

MOST GO! I loved my stay here!! Definitely add the "taste and tour of the winery" IT WAS SUCH AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE!! Aaron our host was so knowledgeable and passionate about his wine. I bought 5 of his bottles!! And I tried each one from the tasting. I also will be back to his seminar where you can create your own. His wine is vegan and organic. His wine is also naturally fermented which I LOVE! Will definitely stay here again but not in my camper van but in his yurts!

We had the absolute best time. Adam was a clear and helpful communicator the minute we booked the site. The cabin itself was definitely rustic - no bathroom and the only source of heating was a wood stove in the living room (so keep that in mind if you’re staying October-March; it gets cold at night and you’re throwing logs onto the fire every few hours). That said, the bed was arguably the most comfortable bed I’ve ever stayed on in a short term rental. The cabin had everything we needed, including beautiful trails, snow for the boys to sled on, and a chance to mentally reset and disconnect from our devices. There is WiFi near the main house so if you have to get online, there are no issues. I look forward to coming back with more friends and family.

Bridgeport Reservoir is a lake at the lower end of Bridgeport Valley in Mono County, California. Its earth-filled dam was constructed in 1923 by the Walker River Irrigation District, along the East Walker River. The campground and marina was built I-don't-know-how-long ago, but it sure is nice! About Us: Welcome to Bridgeport Reservoir Marina and Campground. Join us for the classic camping and fishing experience with unique views of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. Within the Toiyabe National Forest, Bridgeport Reservoir Marina and Campground is conveniently located near two distinct hot spring areas. A true angler's paradise, the Reservoir has excellent trout fishing from spring through fall and is close by to multiple rivers for incredible fly fishing. A 35 minute drive on highway 120 will take you to the Tioga Pass Gate of Yosemite National Park. This gate is a great start to several different areas inside of the park that you may want to visit beyond that gate. Off-road enthusiasts would not have enough time in one visit to explore all of the 4x4 trails, abandoned mines, and sites in the area as well as the famous trail that brings you right to the Bodie Ghost Town. Climate and Ecosystem: At 6,400 feet (1,950 meters), this high desert climate has little to moderate tree coverage and gets hot during the days and cool at night. The conditions are much like Joshua Tree National Park or Alabama Hills camping area. During your visit, you will notice many flying insects that resemble mosquitos. These Chironomid are harmless and do not bite. On the contrary, the mosquito presence is very minimal. Swimming in the lake is possible usually between April to July.

We take great pride in extending a warm and welcoming space for all our visitors and extending the invitation to campers was a great next step. We have listings ranging from yurts to shipping containers, an old water tower converted to a vintage trailer and canvas tents. The diva den was my old music studio and the main cabin is our family cabin. This is a magical and sacred space filled with a ton of memories please come join our community and nook in the sierras and make some more. We are based in between the middle fork of the Yuba river right where it meets up with Oregon Creek. If you like a long walk it is 2.5 miles down the dirt road to Oregon Creek and the middle fork of the Yuba. Driving takes 5 to 10 mins. The other direction is the largest lake in our county Bullards Bar Reservoir and Emerald Cove Marina. We are 1 mile down Marysville Rd. from a launch called dark day. There is a trailhead at the top of overflow boat parking for a public swimming hole on the lake. On our property, we have a main house with its own private facilities such as a kitchen, shower, and bath. On the land, we have 9 total unique cabin and canvas tent structures converted into boutique-like campsites. We have an epic outdoor entertaining kitchen and patio with an outdoor pizza oven and a little dog rinse behind the outdoor shower. The bathhouse is right across the way and provides a private but shared guest shower house, tub and sink. The sauna and fenced-in dog area are near the shipping container site. The sauna has just been remodelled with a shower and bathtub right outside the sauna house. Like anywhere in the woods there is an hour at sunset when you may have mosquitoes down near the sites in the spring and some of the summers depending on the year. We have a natural spray for that or fans in the kitchen. Off the path, you may find poison oak in the thick of the woods. So please stay on the marked trails.

Wondernut Farm

Wondernut Farm is an upstart, entirely off grid, working farm-stead being built from the ground up. We breed milking goats and sheep, heritage pigs, and are in the process of converting to a grade A dairy and creamery! We use organic practices, management intensive rotational grazing, and dryland pasture management. We sell our animals locally so that others can have their own milking and meat animals. Our 110 year old hay barn and the roof of the former lumber mill were all we had to work with in getting off the ground. Being first and foremost a functional farm, we can't help but offer a somewhat warts-and-all look into everything it takes to be working to our goals. Our hearts are, and always will be, educational and local community focused, and we work closely with farmers and friends alike in better understanding our innovative animal husbandry, power, pasture and water systems. Whenever we have time, we'll afford the same time and opportunities to interested hip-campers. Our location is stunning and historic, and the beauty of the wild, natural landscape is powerful, yet offers easy access to both Yosemite Valley and the San Francisco Bay area. The area features excellent road and mountain biking in the immediate vicinity, vast access to hiking and backpacking trails, a huge variety of rock climbing in the area, the best whitewater rafting in California on the Tuolumne River, with some tasty places to eat or drink coffee in the nearby town of Groveland, just 10 minutes away. Accommodations at the farm are certainly rustic, and private but not secluded, with occasionally heavily project-exploded shared kitchen and living space, showers, and airy flush toilets. Do be advised that animals are pooping, hammers are hammering, sometimes we need to look into a health or animal injury related issue. Sometimes there is blood in an animal birth or slaughter, and our working guardian dogs have been known to be noisy some nights. Water and electricity are both very limited (though we reuse all our water), waste must be carefully sorted into a number of different categories, and there is always evidence of ump-teen projects unfolding at once. The most difficult condition during much of the summer are nuisance flies, which are always gone at night. We have almost no mosquitoes or ticks. Depending on the exact situation and time of year, guests may have the opportunities to snuggle with baby animals and run our herd to or from pasture, and maybe even get their hands dirty picking veggies in the garden.

Farm is conveniently located 20 minutes from Auburn, Nevada City and Grass Valley. You do drive through a residential neighborhood to get to this unique location that has views of the forest, valley and Sierras. We are 60-90 minutes from Lake Tahoe, Donner Lake, Truckee and ski resorts. We have an on-site Personal Chef that is available to create Farm-Fresh Gourmet Meals, Culinary Homesteading Classes, Private Garden and Foraging Tours. We love celebrations and many guests come here to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, family reunions, personal retreats and special occasions. Most guests opt in for farm-fresh meal samplers, but feel free to bring your own camp stove, ice chest and food to cook. Privacy and what to expect: Property is usually very quite and overlooks hundreds of acres of forest looking toward the Snow-capped Sierras in the Winter and Spring. We are located in a neighborhood (Alta Sierra- in between Auburn and Grass Valley). We ask that everyone uses soft voices since we are in a canyon and sound travels to a few neighboring houses. There are 5 Hipcamp sites on property, so we could have up to 20 guests in a weekend. There is a main farmhouse where the manager and culinary students reside. Chef Susan mentors teens at the local highschools and homeschools and loves to share her knowledge about the land. There is a Culinary Classroom, Upper Deck and Gardens to enjoy. If you have teenagers, they love it here! 1/2 Basketball court, cooking and foraging classes. Accommodations 1. The Enchanted Meadow Love Shack (sleeps 3) (190 square feet) 1 King Bed and 1 twin. It's about 200 feet from main farm house and traditional bathroom. The path to and from this unit is steep and a dirt path with many stairs. If you have a 4 wheel drive you can drive right up to the unit. Bring your own sleeping bag or sleeping gear. 2. The Love Shack Tree House and Tent site (sleeps 2) 1 queen bed and balcony that overlooks garden. There is a tree growing inside this unit. There are table and chairs so you can cook on the balcony or the bbq area about 30 feet from unit. So cool! Bathroom and cool shower are 50 feet down a dirt path. Additionally, there is an area to pitch a tent. For example if a family of 4 wanted to split up and 2 in treehouse, 2 in the tent area. There is an additional $18 per guest if you want to use the campsite in addition. Please bring your own sleeping bag or sleeping gear. 3. The Sunrise Suite (sleeps 2) 1 loft twin bed (must climb a ladder ) and 1 couch futon. There an area in front of the unit for 2 people to eat and sit. Common bathroom and shower are 20 feet away. 4. Enchanted Meadow with 3 Serenity Tent sites (max capacity 6) This beautiful spot is great for groups, couples and families. To access this serene, private, nature-rich area, be prepared to walk down a steep path. It only takes 5 minutes to walk down which is the easier part. Walking back up the trail you may feel winded since we are at 2,250 elevation. Best to pack a backpack with your gear if you don't want to make too many trips back and forth to your car unless it's part of your workout :) . There is an activity Teepee / Tipi and we encourage you to participate in the writing, arts and crafts projects! We have wildlife and bears may visit if you have accessible food. So bear-proof your food if at campsite or best to leave in car or farmhouse kitchen. When available, farm-fresh meals can be ordered and delivered to campsites. Otherwise you can prepare cooked meals up near main farmhouse. Other guests may be passing through on the nature trail during your stay but you have the ability to reserve the area as "Private" so no other guests will be visiting. $150/night for the 3 sites or $200/night to block off the entire meadow area for privacy. 5. The Big Deck Experience! (sleeps 2-4 adults. No children due to the height of deck and hot/cold tub) Enjoy breathtaking views of the Sierras, valley and forest from the balcony. Couch turns into a comfortable bed for 2. For additional adults, you need to bring sleeping pads for on the deck. Enjoy meals at 1 or both of the large dining tables. Play the gong and do some sound healing! This space is part of the main farmhouse (owner's residence) and has a beautiful 75 x 15 foot redwood deck with views of the Sierras. This area can be blocked off for privacy from 7pm-10am. At 10 some other guests may come to the area for brunch. Manager and 2 other guests live in the main farmhouse, so this area is considered "semi-private" Other guests may access deck during the day (this is negotiable depending on situation) $ 225/night includes up to 4 adults and 1 Farm-fresh Happy Hour. Sample appetizers and beverages from the farm! Upper Deck/Balcony: If not reserved for a private party, you may enjoy the gongs, meals and play a game in the shaded sitting areas. There are 2 large tables for dining and a couch that seats 8 for relaxing. When not raining we have a rug out for yoga. Deck overlooks the organic demonstration gardens and fruit orchard. If available, you can book an educational or foraging tour with one of the farm volunteers. Fresh chicken eggs are usually available for purchase. Garden Goddess Farm is a great place for kids and adults to learn about nature, cooking, culinary arts, foraging, growing your own food, medicinal / culinary herbs and sustainable living. She graduated from UC Berkeley, is a Master Gardener and has additional certifications in Creating Sustainable Communities and Permaculture Design.
