Vintage Cabin in National Forest

1 site · Lodging1 acre · Pine Mountain Club, CA
Located in a spectacular mountain setting just 90 miles north of Los Angeles, Pine Mountain Club is a residential community in the Los Padres National Forest. Relax & unwind while surrounded by acres of old forests that shelter an array of flora & fauna, including the rare California Condor. This gambrel cabin was one of the original homes built in PMC in 1976. The 70s vibe is still alive with cork floors, shag rugs, wood paneling, record players, an 8-track player & an orange Malm fireplace. The space Our 1970s chalet-style gambrel cabin is located at an altitude of 5500 feet above sea level. Both bedrooms are equipped with organic latex mattresses (queen downstairs, full upstairs) and ROKU smart TVs. There is also a TV with basic cable, a VHS player, and classic video games in the living room downstairs. Upstairs we have a projector for watching movies on a big screen. The kitchen is equipped with a full size refrigerator, oven/stove, Nespresso machine with milk frother, blender, waffle maker and fondue pot. We have board games, puzzles, records, 8-track cassettes, VHS tapes, a projector (for VHS or streaming movies), a guitar, keyboard, and a working fireplace. Towels and linens are provided. The washer and dryer cannot be used by guests, but there is a laundromat in the village and another in Frazier Park. Keep in mind this is not a hotel, this is a privately owned cabin in the middle of a National Forest. The water may take a little longer to heat up, the electric heaters might smell a little dusty the first time they are turned on after a long summer, spiders might rebuild their webs less than 24 hours after the space is cleaned, there may be dirt on the outdoor furniture, you might need to wear insect repellant in the summer or shovel the driveway and deck in the winter. If you are looking for a luxury hotel, this is not it, but if you want a fun, comfortable getaway in the mountains, please submit a booking inquiry. You are expected to complete a checkout checklist which includes washing your dishes and putting them away where you found them, making sure all wall heaters are off, etc. Guest access You'll be in walking distance of the PMC Clubhouse which houses a restaurant, bar, recreation room, community swimming pool and hot tub (SUMMER ONLY), tennis courts, and a golf course. If you'd like to use the pool, please send names of all guests so I can register you in advance. There is a fee of $5 per person, per day, for the temporary pool passes to be paid at the pro shop on pickup. We're also close to hiking trails and the village where you'll find the Pine Mountain General Store, Bear Claw Bakery, The Perch, gift shops, and more. During the WINTER months, there is a chance of snow and/or ice on the roads. You will need 4WD/AWD or tire chains on hand. The CA Highway Patrol is often checking cars before allowing access. You may also need to show confirmation of your reservation. We have a snow shovel on the deck in case you need to shovel the driveway or deck. Parking on the street is not allowed. We've had several guests say they grew up on the East coast and know how to drive in snow, only to comment about the curvy, icy road into the forest which is no joke! Even if you are prepared, someone in front of you might not be, so have warm clothes or blankets in the car, a full tank of gas, and some snacks in case you get stuck. Other things to note There is an outdoor security camera on the property. The cabin is not in the middle of nowhere, we have neighbors on all sides. Please be respectful. The wi-fi is pretty reliable but as we are in a rural area, it can be slow and it does go out from time to time. If you absolutely must have internet access guaranteed, this may not be the place for you. No shoes in the house Rules The two overriding rules are 1) Leave the home the way you found it and 2) Respect the privacy and quiet of our neighbors. - NO SHOES IN THE HOUSE - Please do not rearrange the furniture. Use coasters on wood surfaces! Be gentle with everything - most items are vintage. - Basic cleaning up after yourself is expected, including washing your dishes and putting them away. - Trash and recycling must be taken to the transfer site when you check out. - We provide a checkout checklist so you remember to turn all heaters off, lock doors and windows, etc. - Commercial photography/filming is not allowed without permission. Please send details in advance and we will get back to you with the rates for your project. - No outdoor fires of any kind - Quiet hours in PMC are 10pm - 7am - Smoking allowed outside ONLY. Please keep doors and windows closed. If the house smells of smoke after you leave you will lose your deposit to cover the cost of odor removal. Dispose of butts properly - not on the ground. - Pets are not allowed. We had to change our policy after a bad experience. - This is a forest, and bears (and other wildlife) are frequently sighted. No food or trash should be left outside the cabin unattended. All doors and windows need to be closed if you're not in the room. There is an air horn in the downstairs bedroom closet, and whistles near the sliding glass door. If you see a bear, make a lot of noise to scare it away. - Missing items will be deducted from your deposit plus a $50 service fee per item. - NO fireworks or guns of any kind (including BB and paintball) - No parking on the street. If you have a RV please contact me in advance to discuss options. - Any additional guests beyond the number stated in your reservation must be approved in advance. - Your name and contact information will be shared with the Pine Mountain Club Property Owner's Association, in case of emergency or neighbor complaints. - You must provide your email address in advance of your stay. Documents will be sent for you to print out.

Glorious, private, nature retreat in Santa Barbara!

1 site · Lodging11 acres · Santa Barbara, CA
PURE MAGICAL WELL LOVED LAND & YURT off secluded gated private drive. Extremely serene, quiet setting with peaceful gorgeous energy, green growing things and fine air. This stunning 11 acre property graced with oak, pepper, sycamore and walnut trees is surrounded by private trails, more land and national forest. Santa Barbara is stunning place to be ALL year round.. summer and spring obviously but fall and winter are equally gorgeous and kind weather wise (fall/ winter my personal favorite when the colors are extra deep and vibrant) - this land. is.... a true expression of the beauty of Santa Barbara being within the mountains and minutes from the ocean, half hour from the Santa Ynez back country, minutes to the beach and epic mountain top trails.I wish to say before going into the description... how SO very sweet and satisfying it's been for me to share this special land with the amazing people coming through making life memories.. eloping or having their first romantic get away after having children etc.. I think because I truly LOVE, love opening my home and land up to others, it makes for a very different kind of experience energetically. It's been a real honor for me to be hostess! The incredible thing about this place is that it's a mere few miles to uptown, Whole Foods and restaurants (5 minutes) and 10 minutes to downtown Santa Barbara. We're also just 30 minutes from Santa Ynez, Los Olivos, Solvang (wine country). The land is unique because it feels like you're very remote and off the grid out in nature (which you are) but then it's just minutes to get anywhere in Santa Barbara. Very find rare to find such a spot with so much surrounding private serene land!Again.. to say... how I so love having people here.. part of the unfolding story of this special dwelling. I've marveled and appreciated so much how everyone has treated this place with honor, respect.. all of us taking good care with it so it's here for everyone's enjoyment. Makes my heart glad!!I am usually present on the land in my "own neck of the woods" in my barn (so I'm around if needed by text), but it's very uncommon for people to cross paths unless they are seeking it out others at common spaces.. otherwise it's rare, private and pretty vast on this 11 acre piece of paradise. Usually I will greet you briefly, warmly so I can answer any questions and then again because there's so much space, there is rarely any overlap. A very private, serene experience. The photographs... I have to say, DO NOT GIVE JUSTICE to this home and land. You'll know what I mean when you get here...the feel of this place, the stillness, the open, natural setting, nurturing, safe feeling. It's a very special zone in which to unravel the nervous system, revise and renew. Hope to share it with you!PLEASE NOTE: If you are interested in staying, first step will be to connect voice to voice by phone as I love to take great care with each and every person that visits this amazing land.. a soulful hello, answer questions and be sure the offering is the right fit! Also, for reviews, you can search for the yurt on airbnb where you'll see near 100 5 STAR reviews.. which will give you a much deeper feel for the experience that is had here. Thanks for reading!Learn more about this land:The Yurt is a very private, soulful, sexy, romantic space. Very different from being in a normal house structure. It's like you're camping in a way.. hearing the sounds of outside, of the wind.. but then you're in this very luxurious extraordinarily dreamy realm. For those of you who don't know, a yurt is a round structure with wood floors, a round skylight at the top of the dome and very heavy canvas that can withstand any weather... a most interesting architecture. It's very warm and soulful. The hillside where it resides provides beautiful trees and sweetest feel of openness.. a small trail that leads up to a 2 seater lounge swing overlooking the entire mountain range of Santa Barbara begins just outside the door. Amazing surround sound system for your dancing pleasure. Also available DVD player and WI. No internet. This is for those who wish to really recalibrate... though most smart phones (internet) will function from the sweet spots on the property. I myself are on Verizon.. have no issue using phone and internet from my smart phone.Amazing redwood bath house exclusive to the yurt which includes an amazing outside shower looking out to the expanse of the hillside. Super private!Pool and hot tub  resides on the top tier of the land, not near any dwellings.. gorgeous day and night. More about the yurt. The space is very light and open. A complete living room/ bedroom/ eating area all in one. French doors lead out to a private deck. Perfect for stargazing or just laying in the sweet sun. The land surrounding is an extension of the living space.Hear and watch the beautiful birds.. hawks, crows and small singing ones.. howls of distant coyotes by night and the occasional sighting of a bob cat.The yurt in short is just an epic place to dwell recalibrate, renew in both nature and luxury. The setting is ideal for two adults or one solo soul looking to retreat. There is also plenty of land around the yurt and on other parts of the property in which to camp.... so this is a potentially amazing place for more visitors as well. Now, there is no kitchen inside the yurt. (small fridge is outside under the stairs). Keeps the motors away and the sounds of nature in the forefront. I am pretty much an extraordinary cook specializing in bringing forth the incredible local organic year round produce.... I had the thought to offer to guests (by request and if I'm available, additional cost and if my schedule allows) a meal or two which could be brought up to the yurt or eaten down at the main house where we can hang out while I cook for you! I hate to say it because there are some pretty fantastic restaurants in town.. but I would be VERY surprised if you found food as good as mine. :) Something about home cooking by someone who worships food and the highest quality ingredients.. equal parts healthy and gourmet. OR, I certainly can point you in the right direction if eating out is what you prefer! BUT either way!! EGGS! Here on the land, I have 12 wonderful hens who lay daily in the non cold months of the year. Happy to send you off with fresh ones to take home with you! Also tons of fruit from the land to share depending on the time of year.Ahh... what else? The sun is supreme here, the air quality medicinal and the weather has a habit of being a perfectly kind 73 degrees and sunny. Hang out by day or by moon with the countless places to dwell.P.s. OTHER OFFERINGS: I have chickens who are fed very well laying all organic epic EGGS! When they are laying (not so much in the winter months. chickens will take a break when it's "cold")... I will be showering you with them for your breakfast making pleasure (hard boiled or you can take some home!). I also provide organic whole bean coffee and tea. Also of course the best natural shampoo, conditioner and soap!

Forest glamping in Ventura guide

Overview

A short jaunt north of Los Angeles, Ventura County acts as the de-facto gateway to California’s Central Coast region. Here you’ll find some of the best beaches in California—many of which have county-run campgrounds—along with wooded forests, sandstone rock formations, hot springs, lakes, undeveloped islands, and cozy, laid-back communities. It's a fantastic spot no matter the time of year, with many area campgrounds open year-round. For beach camping near the waves, you can't beat Ventura's county parks. While summertime brings the masses down to area beaches to swim, sunbathe, and frolic in the surf, winters tend to be quiet—and offer the best waves for surfing.

Where to go

The Ventura County Coast

If beachfront camping is what you're after, Ventura County is the place to be. Hobson Beach Park and Faria Beach Park both have tent and RV sites with full hook-ups, while Rincon Parkway Beach and Emma Wood State Beach offer RV-only camping close to the sea. Nature-lovers won't want to miss the Ventura River Estuary, one of the top spots in the region for bird-watching.

The Ojai Valley

Centering on the town of Ojai, a bohemian-chic community in inland Ventura County, the Ojai Valley offers easy access to a number of natural hot springs, many of which are situated in Los Padres National Forest. Massive Lake Casitas is a highlight, with around 400 campsites and ample opportunities for boating and fishing. Foster Park is another great option, with tent, RV, and group camping and direct access to the nine-mile Ojai Valley Trail, which links the park to Ojai.

The Channel Islands

To really get away from it all, head out to the Channel Islands (accessible by boat from Ventura or Oxnard). This chain of eight islands (five of which are a national park) is home to all sorts of endemic plants, mammals, and birds—meaning you won't see them anywhere else on earth. Sea kayaking, seal watching, scuba diving, and backcountry camping are just the beginning. Camping is available year-round at the islands; Anacapa Island (which is part of Ventura County) has particularly great views from its campground.

The Simi Valley

In southeastern Ventura County, the Simi Valley—and the adjacent Simi Hills—are characterized by a mix of vast, rugged landscapes and modern development. Tapo Canyon and Oak Park both have tent and RV camping, while the day-use-only Santa Susana Pass State Park offers miles of multi-use trails and fantastic views.

When to go

Thanks to Ventura's mild climate, most beach campgrounds and state parks are open year-round. Dry summer weather poses a fire hazard, so it's best to be on the safe side—follow all campground fire rules, and check the news for ongoing wildfires before you hit the road.
