Colby's Cabin was just great. I used it as a base camp to investigate surrounding waterfalls in Maine and New Hampshire over a few days. Note: If you're going after Angel Falls during the spring season of road washouts, rent a tank. Those roads are treacherous! I made a bunch of new memories, took some great pictures, and endured the consequences of my own poor choices! Back to the cabin, it's well-appointed for an extended stay. The kitchen is well-equipped, the propane stove works well, and all the solar-charged LED lights work very well. The JoTul wood stove is perhaps oversized for Colby's Cabin; that thing is a blast furnace! Guaranteed to keep you toasty even in the cold winter. If there's anything to be wary of, it's the road up to the cabin. An all-wheel drive vehicle with good ground-clearance is absolutely required. Also, owing to its construction and orientation, the inside of the cabin is on the dark side even during midday. Thankfully, there are plenty of lights and candles available! I also enjoyed the guestbook, reading about all the warmth and love that has passed through the cabin over the years.

Weekend Trip to Colby's Cabin

The view from the cabin was lovely! We took the short cut there and the regular trail back, the short cut is definitely shorter but very steep! It was so peaceful and quiet there. The cabin was well kept and clean. Thankful for the wood stove, because it was quite cold and wet when we got there, once heated up it was very cozy. Definitely will be back again!

Cabin was absolutely cozy and it’s nice to go back when times are simple. A simple walk in nature with a child experiencing and teaching things that we learned as children was so meaningful for all of us and we anticipate returning for a longer stay. Aranka by far is the best hostess I have encountered. The farm fresh eggs were delicous. Can’t wait to return.

Great place. Heavier than you may think to lug everything in so be prepared. Be careful about signage. We walked half a mile up hill in freezing rain for the Joe and Doe cabin but it was the wrong way.

Two Dog was snug for our one cold windy night stay. We wondered what supplies would be there so in case it's helpful for others, noting that some things were clearly just leftovers, so depends on who precedes you: plenty of dry wood for the stove inside (reload the supply from the nearby woodshed before you leave), an old-school can-opener, a roll of TP, foam mats for the sleeping loft, a broom, a box of matches, a few sheets of newspaper, a fire extinguisher, a water kettle, a few DIY pegs and nails for hanging gear/lights, many decks of cards, a cribbage board, guestbook, a low table, two chairs, and a bench on the front porch. Outside is a fire pit, picnic table, and pit toilet. The stove was easy enough to use and did a good job of warming the space, but there's plenty of opportunity for cold air to come through the cabin. We brought water from home and glad we did - looked like the year-round hand pump at the Barn was out of order when we passed. Recommend bringing fire starting supplies, either your own tinder or a small axe bc wood provided is just big logs. If you're there during warmer weather, there are good trees for hammocks.

This place is precious, love the space! Woodstove and 0 degree sleeping bag kept me super cozy. Lots of Barred owls in the woods at night. As campers here, we need to be mindful and not leave debris like orange peels and food scraps; please respect this land that HVNC is sharing with us and leave no trace ❤

The Pond Cabin is a sweet spot in a beautiful, mixed hardwood forest on the edge of Little Dyer Pond. The wood stove kept us warm and cozy. The Barred Owls hooting at night was a special treat.

Kids and I had a fantastic time! The cabin is beautiful and the woodstove provided plenty of heat, even in February. We'll be back!

We had an absolutely amazing experience at John’s property, even in the freezing winter! The land itself was gorgeous, offering a peaceful and scenic escape despite the cold. What truly stood out was John’s incredible attentiveness—he went above and beyond to ensure our group was comfortable and well taken care of. Before our arrival, he plowed the snow for us and even personally escorted us to the campsite, which we really appreciated given the extreme temperatures. The porta potty was clean and well-maintained, making our stay even more convenient. While water wasn’t available due to the freezing conditions (understandably so), everything else was well-prepared, and we had a fantastic time. We’d love to revisit when the weather is warmer and fully enjoy everything this beautiful property has to offer. Highly recommend this campsite and John as a host!

Weekend Trip to Slippery Rock Trails LLC

I booked this hipcamp SUPER last minute, due to some rearrangements that couldn't be worked through with our first planned hipcamp. John was so accommodating and prompt with checking that the heat in the tiny house was working before he approved the booking in case it wasn't and we couldn't stay. well it was working, and we found the little gas powered fireplace to be so soothing and cozy. I have to give John kudos as well for taking his snowmobile and making us a path to sled with as well as bringing us sleds to borrow! my partner and i are full grown adults and we had the best time sledding down that hill. it was hard to walk back up (we are aging) but it was so worth it. we will definitely be returning!

The land is beautiful and has so much to offer in any season. The space is clean and well cared-for. The loft is spacious and firewood provided. We packed in our own water but one could easily filter/ treat if the water isn't frozen! We didn't see a single soul the whole time, and enjoyed equally our relaxing by the fire and our walkabouts.

Wakefield Wildlife Sanctuary

The Wakefield Wildlife Sanctuary was generously bequeathed to the Kennebec Land Trust in November 2016 upon owner Kendra Wakefield Shaw’s passing. Its 108-acres feature historic cabins and 4000 feet of frontage on Cobbossee Stream in West Gardiner. The property’s coniferous and deciduous woods, vernal pools, and marshlands are important habitat for many species of birds, mammals, and plants. In 2018, the Maine Cabin Masters renovated two of the stream-side cabins, which now serve as rustic getaways for Hipcampers and the like. A small dock and canoes are available for use on the wide and deep flatwater stream! *NEW 2024 - A dock has been added to cabin 2, so each cabin now has it's own private dock. Fieldstone Farm

Fieldstone Farm is a 35-acre property in Warren, Maine. Our waterfront campsite is located on a wooded parcel nestled between a rolling farm field and a seasonal cottage. Amenities included in the nightly rental are a 16-foot diameter round Regatta Bell canvas tent set up on a raised wooden platform, with a queen-sized pull-out futon, two additional single-sized futon chairs, and an indoor dining table and stools. Outside, overlooking beautiful Crawford Pond (aka Crawford Lake) is an outdoor kitchen and lounging area with patio table and chairs, umbrella, as well as kitchenware (cookware, plates, bowls, cups, utensils, coffee press, etc.), a gas grill, and firepit. Colby's Cabin has everything you need for your stay in a beautiful, off-the-grid, rustic log cabin on 10 acres in a wilderness area minutes to Webb Lake, Tumbledown Mountain & Mt. Blue State Park. Many kinds of trails all around. In Maine’s finest hiking, hunting, fishing, skiing, hiking and boating territory. A perfect place for adventure, romance, celebration or serenity. An escape from the electronic world! But there is good cell/data service too. The cabin has solar and battery lights but no power or generator. Hand water pump in the kitchen during spring/summer/fall. 6 gallons of wash water provided in the winter. Spacious outhouse, solar shower, etc. (See Winter Conditions below). Glamping at its finest! This is a cozy place with led lights & solar lights, candles, gas cook range, gas refrigerator, wood stove, a dug well with hand-pump in the kitchen (pump can not be used when the temperature is below freezing) and a log cabin outhouse. King bed in bedroom; twin bunk beds and queen pull-out futon couch in great room Fully outfitted with dishes, utensils, pots,/pans, linens/blankets/pillows, books, games, oil lanterns, camp/bag shower and more. Firewood is included in the rental price. Propane, paper towels, toilet paper and dish soap are also provided. All Wheel Drive or 4WD is needed to access the cabin in winter and mud season. The sink can be used with a bucket underneath.
