Fulbright Farmstead Sheep Camp

1 site · Lodging80 acres · Hobson, MT
For a truly unique Montana experience, come join us out on the prairie in an authentic sheep wagon! We live on 80 open acres with beautiful big sky views. The wagon has been lovingly fixed up while maintaining its rustic originality. There is a brand new full size bed, a fold down table and bench seating. Outside is a couple chairs and a table for you to relax and savor the view. Come enjoy the sheep and cows or check out the blacksmithing shop. If you'd prefer to cool off in the water on a hot day, Ackley Lake is just a few miles away and is a great place to take a boat, a kayak or go fishing. To add to the experience, a legitimate outhouse is available for your use. The original cookstove is still in the wagon, and while it is functional, we ask that our guests please refrain from using it due to fire concerns. A propane camp stove is available for your use. While we like to enjoy the rustic nature of the camp, an outlet is accessible in the wagon. You are welcome to bring your own generator or for an extra fee we can hook up our generator if you need power. There are two lanterns available in the wagon for lights, and they will charge a cell phone if needed. We provide all you need for your morning coffee - whole beans, an antique grinder, a porcelain enamel pot to boil water, a French press for making the coffee, and of course, cups. There is several options for storage if needed, under the bed, in what is known as a "grub box" and also the "grain box" on the back of the wagon. The location of the sheep wagon will vary depending on what pasture our cows and sheep are in, as we rotationally graze. There is a nice, clean outhouse available for your use just a short walk away from the wagon. If needed, there is an extra fridge / freezer in our shop you are welcome to use, just let us know! Cell phone service works just fine here. Things to do: Our place is very peaceful to get away from it all and just relax...but if you are someone that needs something more to do, there is plenty around here! First of all, feel free to explore our property. You can walk through the sheep & cows or the garden. You can join in on milking the sheep and cows in the morning. Or if you prefer something different, Ackley Lake is less than four miles away and offers fishing, boating, swimming, birdwatching, picnicking, and camping. If you like to fish the lake is stocked with Rainbow Trout and Tiger Muskie. Crystal Lake is another Central Montana treasure located about 35 miles away. If you have kids that love dinosaurs, Harlowton has a great museum about 40 miles away. Places to eat: We are located seven miles South of Hobson. Hobson has a great restaurant / bar called Tall Boys Tavern. There is also a cafe called The Gateway Cafe. If you are up for a short drive, the Oxen Yoke is located in Utica which is Charlie Russell country, just 13 miles away. Of course if you are really up for an adventure, the wagon should be stocked with all your cooking necessities, including some canned food if you so choose. The wagon comfortably sleeps 2 adults (provided you aren't more than 6' tall, as that is how wide it is!) However, a couple kids can fit underneath the bed as well - or if you prefer, for an extra fee we can setup a tent next to the wagon. Guest access You are welcome to explore our property on foot, we just ask that you please be respectful and be sure to close any gates that you go through. We have a pond that is great for teaching kids how to skip rocks! At this time we do not allow pets due to our livestock. Please feel free to walk through the sheep. If you sit still and quiet they will probably come up to you for scratches, some are very friendly! Other things to note We are just beginning this adventure of renting out our sheep wagon. Our twin daughters and their friend were the first ones to spend the night in the wagon and according to them it was the "funnest time ever!" We hope you'll enjoy it as much as them. It is definitely a unique look into the history of the west during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. There is no WiFi available here. We hope you'll enjoy activities that a sheepherder would. Checking on the sheep, reading, listening to the radio, or writing someone a letter (or in our guestbook!) Who knows, on a nice night Jayce may even break out the fiddle. You are welcome to help us with chores the evening or morning of your stay, or if you prefer your privacy, that is fine too! Like I said before, we are just starting this adventure and we *think* we have everything you will need out there, but please let us know if that is not the case, we are hoping to deliver a 5 star stay!

Wildiron Bigfork

We live on 10 acres of mixed forest and field. In the summer we have an active blacksmithing school and flower farm here. The idea of a sustainable, self reliant lifestyle has always been part of our life and passing it down to others is a joy for us. We sustainably manage our food and forest to be the best stewards we can for our environment and our neighbors. Our Cabin and structures were built primarily of materials that were recycled or milled on site. which makes them warm and inviting. The Cabin is located close to our shop which houses an active blacksmithing school in the summer months where the rest of the structures are separate and in an area tucked away on the edge of the woods.Jeffrey and Betsy work to make your stay as welcoming as possible. We maintain a small orchard of fruit trees, a garden which feeds us year round and a small flower farm on the property. Avid skiers, bikers, paddlers and hikers, offering the property for others to enjoy was a conscious decision made when planning all of our infrastructure. Come and enjoy all the beautiful Flathead Valley has to offer.
