4 nights at Art City Tucumcari

Art City is a very unique and interesting stay. The art installations are amazing, and when they are lit up at night, WOW! They provide a communal kitchen with oven and refrigerator. Two outside (enclosed) showers with on demand water. You can also reserve their wood-fired hot tub or sauna (in advance). Both are located in a beautiful outside communal setting. There are also flush toilet restrooms, and composting toilets available. We walked the grounds daily and several times at night. Our site was level and had 30amp, and water. We travel in a 40ft Class A with a tow vehicle and had no problem getting in or out of the area. We loved the natural state of the location. Our host for our time there, Benigno, was very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

We stayed overnight in our RV and loved it! The grounds are tidy and nicely laid out with very cool large artworks, walking paths, and amenities for visitors. It's got a great community kitchen, perfect for hanging out. We especially loved that the artwork is lit until late in the evening, so you can experience the art and scenery illuminated and in daylight. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Totally recommend!

Weekend Trip to Dragonfly Mountain Ranch

We loved camping with our campervan at Don’s land. It is the best stocked hip camp we have been to! It’s also beautiful, peaceful and with amazing views. Don and his family were kind, communicative and welcoming. They also have great tips for things to visit. We will definitely recommend this Hipcamp to anybody visiting Taos and it’s surroundings.

This is one of the most incredible camping experiences I've ever had. All the art exhibits are engaging and fun and wildly different, and you honestly get a whole new experience once the sun goes down and the lights come on. A freaking delightful and unique way to center art. In addition, all the communal spaces are beautiful, the campground is very well maintained and the hosts are friendly and accessible. This was a surprise find on a road trip, it's now going to be an annual destination!

I stayed 2 nights at an RV site w/water & 30A. Lovely! Camp host Matty was welcoming & kind. Foot paths meander through the property giving opportunity to see the Art pieces from different viewpoints. The thoughtful sculptures and occaisionally whimsical designs are lit up at night! Delightful!

If you are into uniqueness and creativity you will appreciate Art City. The camp is centered on the very cool concept of using the power of art to rejuvenate an area. The camp is clean and very well kept. Facilities (cooking area, bathroom, etc.) are the same. Camp hosts are very welcoming and hospitable. My only regret is that I didn't allow extra time in my travel schedule to enjoy Art City for at least one more day. I would definitely stay here again and hope to be back one day.

This place was absolutely amazing. Matty and Benigno showed me all the amenities when I got there and I got to choose my camp spot. The art is incredible and the lights at night combined with the stars are even better. The kitchen has everything you might need and there are ample places to sit and hang out while looking at the beautiful art! It’s a fairly recent project and as you walk around you can tell there are still bits and pieces being worked on. These people have such a cool vision for Art City and I can’t wait to see how it grows. I hope to come back soon!!

Art City has to be one of the most notable campsites I’ve ever been too. It’s tucked away and very quiet. The Art onsite is really one-of-a-kind and there are little Easter eggs EVERYWHERE. The entire facility was incredibly cleanly. The vault toilets are honestly some of the nicest I’ve ever seen. Matty explained to me that they use some sort of natural microbial solution to compost the waste. I really loved the approach the owners have taken with Art City. It feels genuine and home-like. I won’t give away any more, go book a few nights there to absorb the entire compound! My only regret is not staying longer. I stayed here one short night on my way from Indiana to Arizona. Would have loved to stay a few more nights. This place would be even better with a few friends!

It was nice to have a place that's in town and close to the supplies needed for travel but still in a quaint neighborhood. The home has a couple different secluded garden options where you can unwind. Also it's a short walk to a nice little park where I could take my dog for some exercise. Lovely gracious hosts who center community and kindness.

Located in the high desert (4300 ft) of the Southwest, we are a gated guest ranch, and we have multiple areas for you to RV boondock or tent camp. We also have a few 30/50 amp plug in spots. This is a private gated ranch, (Not an RV park) and is a working ranch. The Ranch also hosts a special 501(c)3 non profit charity organization (called Equine Safe Haven) that keeps 9 horses and 11 donkeys at the ranch. We have beautiful mountain views and beautiful sunsets. The mountains close by are great for hiking. We have so many photo ops with the animals too! The ranch is home to 35 +- Equines (Horses, Mules, Donkeys) performance and competition horses and carriage driving school. Sorry, we do not rent riding horses or have riding horses/lessons. You may schedule a carriage ride for an extra fee. We have water hydrant fill stations, and a BBQ area for you to use. Please ask when you arrive. We can accommodate any size RV up to and including tractor trailers. We have two 50 amp sites and one 30 amp site if you need electric. CHECK IN TIME: BETWEEN 3pm and 8:00pm. No Exceptions TENT CAMPERS: must get here before sunset - it gets VERY dark here (great for stargazing) , and hard to see in the back acreage. Front Gate locks by 8:00pm and unlocked at 7:30am. If this doesn't work for you, please do not book a stay with us! Checkout is by 11am. It is quiet here, and we like to allow travelers time to rest. We also work full time, M-F, in addition to working the Ranch, so we need to set limits so we can rest as well.

Ranch was the second largest Cattle Ranch in American history. In its heyday around 1900 it was over one million acres. Today the cows are gone, along with the vast tracts of land and the cowboys that managed the herds. The Lyons and Campbell Ranch Headquarters remains as a time capsule of an era past. The extensive adobe compound includes the 27 room adobe mansion of Cattle Baron Tom Lyons and his wife Ida Campbell, along with the fabulous Old West Saloon, Jail, post office, bunkhouses, Theater and Chapel. In the summer months enjoy the great swimming pool, and in the spring and fall enjoy the Mimbres design hot tub. Our RV sites are closed in the winter, but our Airbnb apartments are closed in January only. The Theater has just added a video cinema system to its live performance capabilities. Think "movie night". There is a lot of history here, and for just $10/person you can take the 2 hour tour of the historic grounds. The L.C. Ranch is located in the tiny village of Gila, just 30 minutes from Silver City, right off U.S. 180 on NM Hwy 211. Learn more about this land: Near Silver City, New Mexico, the Historic Lyons & Campbell ranch is in the tiny village of Gila in the lush Gila river valley in the otherwise arid Mountain Southwest. Dog Friendly! (Cats? Not so much, better keep them inside your RV at all times). This massive 60 room adobe compound dates from 1810, is one of the oldest houses in the southwest and was a million acre ranch, the second largest in America back in its heyday from 1880 to 1920, and includes a museum, theater, Old west Saloon, Chapel, jail and two apartments "Inn at the L.C. Ranch" in Gila, NM, available for short term rental on a!rbnb. 5 RV spots with full hookups, AND Wi-Fi. 20 or 30 amp, are $40 per night for up to 2 people. 50 amp for $50 per night. Additional guests are $10 per night, and up to 6 people per site. Hook ups include sewer, electric, WiFi and water connections, and access to the swimming pool, Hot tub, Old west Saloon and Gallery. Two night minimum. Swimming pool is open May thru September, Hot tub is currently off-line due to rennovations. NO FIREWORKS! Please! We are relaxing our fire ban to allow charcoal or gas BBQs, and fully screened portable fire pits, if it is NOT windy. We do not supply these. There is plenty of firewood here, but you will have to cut/break it to usable size. Please be careful. The authentic old west Saloon, Historic Main House, Theater, Gallery, Jail are all available to tour, and for workshops, retreats, Weddings, groups etc. The two hour guided tour of the museum in the main house, the "adobe mansion" of Cattle Baron Tom Lyons, is $10 per person for RV guests. The swimming pool and Lanai are located near the Sunset Site, RV Site #3. It will handle any size rig, 65'+, 20/30/50 amp. Big fifth wheels, Class A or C Motorhomes, no problem. It is our only pull through site. The Lanai by the pool has BBQ, pizza oven, sink, refrigerator, music, games, croquet, darts... Site for Sore Eyes, #4, is a smaller site with 20/30 amp electrical service. It is a "back in" site suitable for Class C, CamperVans, and smaller travel trailers. The other two RV spots are a short walk away, about 150 feet. Site #2, Gemini Site is good for up to 65', pull in, perfect for any size Motorhome or big rig, 20/30/30/20 amp with a unique double rig pedestal that allows a second 30 amp rig to hook up at your descretion. It also has its own shaded picnic area and picnic table. 4" sewer connection. Site #1 has a full tree canopy over head, perfect for Class C or Travel trailers. "Back in" site, 20/30/50 amp, water, 4" sewer and wi-fi. The Mimbres design hot tub is located in the bath house between the two RV locations. It is wood-fired and available on request. (currently off-line due to rennovations) It takes all day to heat it up and it is NOT recommended on windy or freezing nights as it is quite exposed. There is also a bathroom with flush toilet at the pool, along with fridge, BBQ, Wood fired pizza oven, misters and bar in the Lanai, and a guest laundry with an indoor shower nearby in the Spanish courtyard. There are additional bathrooms in the Saloon and the Theater. Karaoke at night in the old west Saloon used to be a regular occurrence on weekends before covid, let's see if we can get that going again this summer. The Saloon is equipped for live music as well, with guitar and bass amps, P.A. and electronic drum kit. The Saloon as well as the entire property is BYOB. The Saloon is not open to the public and has no liquor license. We like it this way. Wi-fi is available at all our RV sites, and is best in the Saloon and Gallery. We have just installed new Wi-Fi extenders. Cell phone service is sketchy, some people with Verizon or T-Mobile get service. It's best on the observation mound. Discounts for longer stays...

The Enchanted Circle Campground sits on the Avalon Ranch. It is 161 owned acres surrounded by a state trust lease. We are very proud to have been voted #1 Campground in NM 4 years in a row and ranked Top 5 by Forbes in the country. We have 8 RV/tent sites to choose from. Campfires are permitted, and pets are welcome. Potable water is available as well as a portable toilet. For cooking, you will have a fire pit, with a good size in fire grill. With the grill, you will have tongs, a spatula and a grill brush. A fire extinguisher and a shovel. And then every site but 7 has an additional large grill mounted for the larger cooking. The property was originally homesteaded in 1893. It was also the first potato farm in NM. It has seven ground-fed springs that run year-round and is officially the Coyote Creeks Headwaters. They converge after filling 4 of our ponds in the marshland where the potatoes were grown. A family of 4 lived in the first dwelling built here, not much larger than a shed. Since that time, 2 homes, 1 of which still stands, a barn, a smokehouse, and 4 other outbuildings were constructed. There are old wagons and farm equipment from the late 1800s and early 1900's still strewn about the ranch. We are home to Huge herds of Elk, mule deer, turkeys, prairie dogs, eagles, black bears, 9 horses, chickens, pigs, goats, our 3 dogs and 4 cats, and the occasional Mountain Lion. We live here year-round. We love our land and want to share it with others. I am a Veteran and our intent is to eventually have a Veterans Retreat facility here. Not a retreat itself, but rather a location for all of the retreats, nationwide, to be able to utilize, so they can use the funds they have to do what they do best. You are helping to make that possible. We do pride ourselves on minimally impacting our land. We strive to keep it clean and as close to nature as we can. We encourage you to leave it better than you found it, as it is only making it that much better. We encourage you to get out and explore. Trailblaze. Be a pioneer. Go wherever you feel lead. A great place to relax under the stars, have a camp fire, and kick back next to your travel rig after a long day. You might just want to crash for the night in a safe location out on the rangeland or stay a day or two to enjoy the land to walk, mountain bike antelope trails, and maybe even Sniffers the pronghorn antelope will find ya before you head out. This is a primitive site, so leave no trace practice is appreciated and pack in/out is how we do it here. If you come in the summer prepare the morning coffee early and enjoy the desert sun's rays hit the Capitan, but by 9am it will be hot, so be ready! Best star gazing and satellite watching in the world! I have several sites to choose from. But remember to keep an eye on the wind and weather as it can get crazy out here sometimes…..!!! I try to keep the sites stocked with firewood, but fill free to bring your own. Lonely Bull Camp 1 is my most popular site. It is very private and is easily accessible by most vehicles and campers. Ask about Lonely Bull Camp 4x4 if you have a capable vehicle. Amazing stars!! Old Highway Camp is a great alternative if you want something closer to the highway and have a safe private place to pull over, camp, kickback, make a fire and get back to your life on the on the road in the morning. It is closer to the highway, but is quite at night and has great star gazing. Enjoy being greeted by The Mountain in the morning. Rancho Algo Mas

This land was previously undeveloped when we bought it in 2011, having only been used as horse grazing land and chile production in the 1960s. It is characteristic of inherited irrigated properties in the area and is about 150 ft wide and half a mile long that extends from the traditional irrigation ditch (acequia) at the top of the property to the river drainage. In the 1940s the Chile Line Railroad ran through here on the way to Espanola. Learn more about this land: Nestled in the river valley halfway between Taos and Santa Fe, near the confluence of the Rio Chama and the Rio Grande, this off-grid property is just north of Ohkay Owingeh, where indigenous settlements have existed for many centuries due to rich soil and available ground and surface water. In the 1500s settlers from Mexico came to farm land for New Spain. These historical Spanish and Native influences and identities run deep in this area, as well as the more recent influences of hippie dropout culture in Taos, Ojo Caliente, and Dixon. We have lots of book recommendations if you want to learn more about the complexity of culture and identity in northern New Mexico. Our 5 acres property is a narrow agricultural strip that extends from the irrigation acequia (ditch) at the top of the property down through a dense bosque (forest), ending in a path to the placid river bend of the Rio Grande. The campsites lie midway, among the privacy of the cottonwood bosque and adjacent pond. It is a short walk to a riverside perch with stairs to the shallow water and kayak launch. Other activities on the property include visiting the goats, chickens, and our friendly dogs, playing on the scrap-built playground, swinging on the pond swing, wading in the river, fishing, and doing some beginner kayaking the pond. This property is at its best late Spring through mid Fall when all is green, the pond is full and river is cool. Winter camping is still doable but may include snow, frozen pond, and leafless trees, and sandhill cranes. The site has a nice firepit and we have lots of wood. Summertime means mosquitos so come prepared with some serious sprays or creams- and don't bother with citronella candles, they won't be effective here. You will have a lot of privacy in the bosque, and it is relatively quiet from urban noise. You will be in agricultural and farm country, so you will be amongst the sounds of roosters, sheep, goat, peacocks and horses doing their thing in the farm land all around you. There can be dogs barking so if any of this noise bothers you you will want to bring earplugs.
