Adirondack Adventure Base

5 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents50 acres · Paul Smiths, NY
Overlook Lean-To, Treehouse, primitive campsites, and so much more! This is glamping at its finest. Our property was originally used as a seasonal hunting/fishing camp in the 1920's. Sheila and Bob bought it in the early 80s and have turned it into an amazing compound built for their family. They blinked their eyes and their children are gone, so this beautiful 50 acre diverse property and its private trail system are meant to be shared. Nestled in a mature, private pine forest, this well cared for property boasts abundant wildlife and a network of walking, skiing and mountain biking trails which take you past wetlands, cliffs and a variety of forest types. They have all kinds of lodging options from a beautiful vacation cabin they rent, to an Adk lean-to, to a Treehouse, and primitive campsites. You'll find a little bit for everyone at Adirondack Adventure Base.

Adirondack Rustic Retreat

2 sites · Lodging240 acres · North Creek, NY
As far as we know, this land has been occupied since shortly after the civil war.  It is actually two farms, combined into one around 1900. The main farmhouse was built out of the logs they cleared in 1879, and there are old foundations of the other original farm houses/barns as well.  All over the property (now woods) there are piles of stones that the original inhabitants pulled from the fields. The second farm house was built in 1901. Most of the total 240 acres were cleared pasture land at that time.  During the twenties and thirties the property was owned by an industrious couple from the City that lovingly turned it into more of a "rustic retreat"; damming a pond, planting ornamentals and upgrading the buildings.  There have been many owners over the years, but we are proud to say it has been with us the longest.  Our family bought it in 1961 and we have been trying to be good stewards ever since.  Come and visit our little patch of wilderness!

Camp in the Pines

1 site · Lodging2 acres · Schroon Lake, NY
"Lindsey W. writes, "This is my new favorite spot. I had the BEST stay at Cory's tent amongst the pines. I couldn't have picked a better place to do some solo winter camping. The tent is easily accessible and is fully stocked with kitchen supplies, lanterns, and necessities. Between what I brought and what was already there, I was living quite luxuriously in the woods. The wood stove works beautifully. I stayed very warm in the tent (it was 80 degrees in there!) while the outside temps reached a low of -15 degrees. Beautiful location and excellent host. Cory made sure I had everything I needed. I already look forward to another stay here." William K writes, "The place is great. The wood stove kept the tent warm overnight. Also had plenty of firewood for 2 night weekend. Location is excellent all & the propane grill outside is a plus. Would stay again." Eric F. writes, "Cory's Camp in the Pines is awesome! My daughter and I stayed here for a few nights and loved it. The tent is great- clean, dry and large enough to walk around in freely. It's got distinct 'areas' which made it cozy- a wood stove area to sit by, a table with chairs to eat or play games at, a fully equipped kitchen area to cook at, and a sleeping area with two beds (full and twin) and some cots. Everything we needed was there, from cooking gear to utensils to cut and stacked firewood. The stove kept the interior really warm even when the tempts hit the low 30's outside. Outdoors had a nice fire pit, some chairs, a hammock, and total privacy. The outhouse was crazy clean, and even had a little LED light for those night visits. As others mentioned, you could faintly hear the highway but it quickly fades into the background and you don't think about it. Cory was an awesome, attentive, and responsive host. Finally, we were at trailheads in the High Peaks in 35 minutes. All in all, we couldn't have asked for anything more- we loved it and we'll be back! This property is the fulfillment of a life-long dream. I first was introduced to this area thirty plus years ago when I visited a nearby hunting camp. This is a place where you step into the pages of a calendar and are surrounded by peace and tranquility, yet the beautiful village of Schroon Lake is only a handful of miles away if you want to visit the public beach or local businesses. It's also surrounded by thousands of acres of state land- in fact, you can walk out of this site right onto endless chunks of public land. While this camp is off-grid and a bit rustic, it offers you an opportunity to live the dream life and experience the Adirondacks to the fullest. Learn more about this land: This camp is conveniently located right off exit 28 on I-87.  Your home away from home is a 14x17' Cabela's canvas wall tent camp on a wood platform.  You will be  situated on two acres of forest abutting thousands of acres of state land. The beautiful village of Schroon Lake and its public beach are just a few minutes drive away as well. This camp is equipped to be used all year.  You and your family will be high and dry regardless of the weather. Enjoy the ambiance of a large Vermont Castings wood stove and stay warm on the crispiest days and nights the Adirondacks has to offer. Sit out under the stars on a cool night on the front porch or next to your private campfire. Nearly everything you need is provided. The camp is even equipped with propane for cooking and lighting and we’ll provide some dry firewood. Cooking utensils are also available as well as a bunk bed/futon that doubles as a couch, and two cots.  There is also a kitchen table with 4 chairs. If you’re looking for 100% satisfaction in the Adirondacks, look no further. The only thing you’ll need is your sleeping bag, pillows., and some food. We look forward to serving you. And if you want to use the internet or call a friend, the cellphone service is PERFECT!

Adirondack Cabin for Unwinding

1 site · Lodging8 acres · Vermontville, NY
Sleep comfortably in a quaint cabin with easy access to Adirondack hiking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, hunting and relaxing. Our cabin is tucked away, bordered by NYS Forever Wild land to the south and west and few neighbors to the north and east. Built by a local doctor in 1924, this cabin was his family's summer home. He was also a talented watercolor painter and his original work is displayed throughout. We are only the third owners and we have been enjoying the cabin since the 80's. In the last 30 years we have introduced some creature comforts (hot/cold water, electricity) while maintaining its original charm. In a time where it is so hard to disconnect from the world, we offer a comfy bed, fresh air, starry nights, a fire and no cell service at the cabin. Learn more about this land: Come, sit back, disconnect and relax in our unique cabin in the Adirondack Park. Our 100-year-old cabin comfortably sleeps seven. There are two small private bedrooms: one with a queen and the second with a full bed. The third room is open to the living room and features a bunk bed. Linens, blankets and towels are provided. The kitchen is well stocked with cookware, a full-sized stove, refrigerator, microwave and farmhouse sink with hot and cold running water. The bathroom has a flush toilet, sink and tub with handheld shower. There is a pellet stove (pellets provided) in our kitchen/dining area and a wood stove (wood provided) in the living room. Both bedrooms have thermostat controlled electric heat. The cabin is a true escape: no internet, no telephone and hit or (mostly) miss cell service. There is electricity if you need to recharge a device and there is a great sound system to Bluetooth your tunes. Built by Dr. James Cormier in 1924, our cabin became a summer getaway for his family. He was also an artist and his original watercolors still adorn its walls. We are only the third owners in nearly 100 years and we have been building cherished memories there for decades. We have made improvements to the property while retaining its charm. There is one P/T neighbor who shares our driveway but the property provides privacy. We are adjacent to a NYS Forest Preserve and surrounded by woods. The cabin is a short drive from Lake Placid and Saranac Lake and close to hiking the Adirondacks, canoeing in the St. Regis Canoe Area, close to the Six Nations Indian Museum and an easy drive to the Visitors Interpretive Center at Paul Smith’s College. For the water and fishing enthusiast a 3 minute drive or 10 minute walk brings you to the North Branch of the Saranac River, Rainbow Lake and Lake Kushaqua. Local fishing, and hunting opportunities abound. The cabin’s location also offers history buffs a chance to explore the impact of tuberculosis sanatoriums which served patients from the big cities in the early 20th century. Sites are available to explore within walking distance and a small museum in Saranac Lake is worth the trip. Lastly, there is a cool antique store within a few miles whose owner is always available for conversation about the area. After a day of ADK fun, you can kick back around the fire ring (outdoor burning wood supplied) and take in the stars. If the weather isn't cooperating, stay in with a good book, play some card/board games or just spend some uninterrupted time with people you care about.  Please let us know if we can answer any questions or provide something special to make your stay even better.
