“Ubuntu” Def: An ancient African word meaning “Humanity to others”. It is a reminder of “I am what I am because of who we all are.” We do our best to bring the spirit of Ubuntu to our lives and property that we have been graced with. We hope your visit to Ubuntu will be peaceful and rejuvenating. Ubuntu was the PERFECT place to observe the Northern Lights on Friday and Saturday (May 10-11). Campers at Ubuntu found the perfect spot to observe the April 8th TOTAL solar eclipse. There are no lights, no neighbors in sight, and they had the freedom to choose their campsite or observation point, whether it was on the flat, nestled in the trees, or on top of Carney Mountain. RV’s also easily found a spot to camp. New friends were made as everyone observed the eclipse. It was totally awe inspiring in so many ways!! The open areas and the top of Carney Mountain, which is a short hike with panoramic views of the area, were perfect spots to experience the solar eclipse, Northern Lights, sunrises and sunsets. The 115 acres of Ubuntu offer many opportunities for camping, hiking and enjoying the abundant wildlife. There is a wet area that sometimes becomes several ponds if the beavers have been at work. There is a path leading to the ponds and also one that runs through the woods to the right of the ponds. The location is private and quiet but still very accessible (only 10 minutes from Exit 34 off the Northway) to all the Adirondacks has to offer, such as biking, jogging, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and hiking. Ubuntu is located only 45 minutes from Lake Placid and the high peaks areas, Saranac Lake is about one hour away, Lake Champlain is 20 minutes away, and Montreal is one hour away. The ferry to Vermont if you wish to cross over the pond (Lake Champlain) is about 45 minutes away. And Exit 34 off the Northway is only 10 minutes from Ubuntu. And if you love equestrian sports, the Willow Hill Equestrian Center is less than 1.5 miles away. Bring your horse and stable your buddy at the Willow Hill Farm, or sign up for a lesson with one of their accomplished instructors. Your furry pets are welcome, but we ask that you keep them on a leash if they tend to chase game or do not have a reliable recall. Please use good judgment. There are many deer on the property, so yes we do have ticks. Please take the necessary precautions. Generators are allowed but in keeping with the peace and tranquility of Ubuntu, please run them only between the hours of 12:00 - 2 PM, especially if other campers are present.. If there are no other campers then use at your own discretion. We hope that your visit to Ubuntu will be a great experience that you will enjoy and treasure! In Peace, Aisha and Moussa

Adirondack Adventure Base

5 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents50 acres · Paul Smiths, NY
Overlook Lean-To, Treehouse, primitive campsites, and so much more! This is glamping at its finest. Our property was originally used as a seasonal hunting/fishing camp in the 1920's. Sheila and Bob bought it in the early 80s and have turned it into an amazing compound built for their family. They blinked their eyes and their children are gone, so this beautiful 50 acre diverse property and its private trail system are meant to be shared. Nestled in a mature, private pine forest, this well cared for property boasts abundant wildlife and a network of walking, skiing and mountain biking trails which take you past wetlands, cliffs and a variety of forest types. They have all kinds of lodging options from a beautiful vacation cabin they rent, to an Adk lean-to, to a Treehouse, and primitive campsites. You'll find a little bit for everyone at Adirondack Adventure Base.

Islands Base Camp

2 sites · RVs, Tents180 acres · South Hero, VT
Conserved by the South Hero Land Trust, the historic Sawyer Bay Farm on the Island of South Hero was converted to grazing beef cattle. Our farm name is Health Hero Farm. We practice intensive planned grazing, moving the cattle daily to fresh grass. The herd may be near the campsites or completely out of sight, somewhere on our 180 acres. While we were building a house, we camped in the equipment shed during the summer and grew to value its convenience. Joan's enjoyment of cycling inspired her to designate the farm stand as a "bike stop" where visitors could buy a snack, get water, fix their bikes and use the unique islands amenity of a composing toilet in a converted ice fishing shack. South Hero is an agricultural island, as well as a summer tourist destination with numerous outdoor activities. It is also only a half-hour away from Burlington, and the drive is pleasurable. Pitch your tent, stow your gear under cover and explore all the islands have to offer. Yes, this is a summer destination, with great cycling, boating and swimming. We are a grass-fed beef operation, Health Hero Farm, on the island of South Hero. (You can read more about us on our farm website. ) Our farm is on the bike route around the islands, with access to many other vacation activities. Pitch your tent in the farmstead or in half of our empty equipment shed 30' x 60'. Or tool on down the farm road and be alone with the cattle and grass. In the shed, which is open on the north side, you have shelter from the rain, sun and wind. We have two campsites that can share a microwave, hot plate, refrigerator, camp sink and coffee maker in the barn. Lots of storage under roof for bikes and luggage. Our composting toilet (from Natures Head Composting Toilet) is a unique amenity -- installed in a retired ice-fishing shack (on skis). During the busy summer months, we may have a port-o-let (a.k.a. port-a-potty) with professional service. In the winter, the equipment shed is not available. We rent out vehicle and boat storage in the equipment shed and cannot accommodate camping there. However, we have ample parking for RVs at any time of the year. And if you are an experienced snow camper, we have several locations to choose from. We have a farm stand where you can buy a few snacks. If you want to try our beef, we'll be happy to show you our freezers. We are 2 miles from a convenience store that packs an amazing array of products into a small space. We are close to a gem of a public beach, a winery (Snow Farm Vineyard), apple orchards, a public school playground, and miles of scenic driving. Local farmers markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays offer some of the best produce from these agricultural islands. We also own 1000' frontage on Lake Champlain, which you may enjoy. It is difficult to access, but affords privacy and serenity. We allow campfires on the gravel areas of the farm and on the beach, where you can gather dead wood. If you want to host a large group, you will need to reserve both campsites and rent a port-o-let (Vermont's lingo for porta-potty) if we don't already have one. Additional fees might apply. There is no RV electrical hookup; however, the equipment shed has electric outlets for your use. Additional fees apply for energy intensive appliances, such as heaters or air conditioners. There is no water hookup; however, we can fill your tanks with a hose from a potable water supply. Generators are not allowed, unless you are sufficiently distanced from other campers and our neighbors. Other accommodations may be available. Just ask! We have many resources, and want you to have a great visit.

Peaceful Country Haven

3 sites · RVs, Tents72 acres · New Haven, VT
Dan found this special place back in 1996. We didn’t move on site until 1999 and still haven’t build our dream home. The years were full of raising our four daughters on this beautiful property. The girls had horses, enjoyed snowmobiles, four wheeling, ice skating, kayaking, sliding parties, camping, picking wild berries and playing in the woods. We had a Christmas tree farm and enjoyed sharing the property and horses with our customers. We now enjoy all this with our two grandsons. It seems only right to share what we have been so blessed to enjoy all these years with others. Learn more about this land: Park your RV or pitch your tent and take some time to relax. Take a walk through the woods, take your kayak out on Otter Creek starting at the base of our driveway or relax with a campfire. Visit Blazer or ring the humongous bell, and check out the wildlife. Do you have a dog? Enjoy the freedom of letting it run and play in the small ponds in the woods. You are most likely to hear the train whistle a time or two. Wake up to beautiful sunrise to start your day off right!

Willow Hill Farm and Mountains

23 sites · RVs, Tents375 acres · Keeseville, NY
Willow Hill Farm is a family-run working horse farm. We train , teach, board horses, and run a day camp. We had a resident camp for 40 years. We have mountains in our backyard and the Au Sable River with world class fishing bordering our meadow for a half mile. Great swimming there, also! We are 45 minutes from Lake Placid and 30 minutes from Plattsburgh. Montreal and Burlington, VT are a 1.5 hour drive. Lake Champlain is 15 minutes away. Hiking, boating, and swimming are all close, and riding lessons are available on the farm. Most hip camp sites are where resident campers stayed. There are two sleeping cabins with many bunks. Each has two small rooms where a counselor slept and one large room. There are screened windows with shutters on all sides and screen doors without locks on each end. There are electrical outlets and over head lights in the cabins. We have plans to improve the cabins. Past the cabins is the Green with 4 loose stone firepits. Across from the cabins is the shower house with four hot showers, sink, and toilets. Showers and toilets have closed stalls. Currently, the water system is above ground and will not work in freezing temps. We have installed an outhouse for year round use. All water is from our excellent well. On each side of the former(closed) dining are spots. There are electrical outlets on the outside of the dining hall. People with campers may like to park in the riding arena near the barnyard. There are outlets, but no toilets. Good water is available from the barns. Lovely views of sky and mountains! We also have a beautiful 50 acre field with an outlet, but no well. There is an outhouse there. Excellent sky viewing here. This is where we jump and train our horses. Horses may be turned out in this field. is

Sandy's Lake Champlain Campspot

1 site · RV, Tent2 acres · Shoreham, VT
Indulge in the tranquility of my stunning lakefront spot. As you journey in, you'll be surrounded by picturesque farms and orchards, immersing yourself in the serene countryside atmosphere. Tucked away on a low-traffic private drive, our property is nestled among a few homes and camps, offering a peaceful retreat. This area is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, with opportunities for walking, biking, swimming, boating, fishing, kayaking, and marveling at the breathtaking sunsets over the Adirondacks across the lake. The hardpack driveway is perfect for campervans, truck campers, and drivables. If you're bringing a towable, please note that expertise in backing down a tricky driveway is required, as there's limited turnaround space at the parking area. Feel free to utilize our fire ring for campfires, as well as our deck, picnic table, and charcoal grill (please bring your own charcoal, as none is provided), conveniently located next to our camper. Your stay promises to be a delightful blend of relaxation and outdoor adventure.

RV camping near Saranac Lake guide

Overview

Set near the High Peaks Wilderness Area, Saranac Lake offers everything you’ll need for your next RV camping adventure. Opt for a Saranac Lake RV campground with electric hookups and a lakeside view, or rent a campsite with picnic areas in line with your mountain of choice. When the weather is at its best, you can explore the area via canoe or kayak, though if you’re looking for a restful retreat, forgo the oars and linger in the lake; the Adirondacks are ripe with wildlife like eagles and loons. In the cooler months, make sure to plan ahead, as many Saranac Lake campgrounds are only open in the summertime. And if you are planning a winter retreat, don’t forget your skis or snowshoes. Dewey Mountain and Mt. Pisgah Ski Area, as well as Whiteface Mountain, will help you make the most of any off-season camping getaway.
