5 nights at Westmuckett Homestead

Sky Valley Acres is beautiful! Ash & Michelle are excellent hosts. There are several nice, private camping spots and there is a two-private-stall compost outhouse on the property close and convenient. You wouldn't normally think something like an outhouse would be cute but they put effort into making it nice. Very responsive hosts. Nice land. Convenient outhouse. I look forward to camping at Sky Valley Acres in the near future. Cheers!

Weekend Trip to Heavener Runestone Park

Tent camping at Heavener #10 was a dream. It’s very secluded and felt private. The ground is rocky and the tent pad is cement. I wish there was more of a grassy area to hangout in. The facilities are very nice and felt like a resort considering it’s a campsite. The trail is nice and the Runestone is so cool. We will definitely be returning soon.

Weekend Trip to Heavener Runestone Park

It was raining and cold when we camped but we still had an incredible experience. The location is absolutely breathtaking, surrounded by forests and stunning mountain views. The campsites are well-maintained, with fire rings, clean facilities and plenty of space to set up camp. The peaceful atmosphere made it the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We enjoyed hiking nearby trails, as well as down to the runestone. The lady at the visitor center/gift shop was friendly and helpful, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this spot for anyone looking to reconnect with nature and enjoy a peaceful getaway!

Upon our arrival, we fell in love with the area. The park is beautiful and well maintained. Unfortunately, we had to cut our trip short due to severe weather. The park host and Manager were amazing during our short stay. We will be rescheduling for sure and are looking forward to being able to stay for the weekend.

Joe’s space is thoughtfully curated and beautifully maintained. The three camping spaces at Duck Foot are well cleared and feel very secluded. Definitely check it out! The other stays on the property are great choices too - we had family staying in the Bell Tent and Sunny’s Hut, which made for a great family trip :)

We came to Heavener Runestone Park with three families and nine young children and had the BEST time! Totally worth the drive from Tulsa. The park is beautiful and secluded, very clean and well kept. It has some really fun little themed touches in keeping with the Viking Runestone. The history around the Runestone is so interesting, the kids loved hearing about the Vikings. The hiking was beautiful and just challenging enough to be fun while accessible for little kids. Bathrooms were clean and easily accessed from our tent sites. The views were spectacular. Out of the three cliff tent sites I would say only 1 was safe for kids, 2 and 3 were too close to the cliff (beautiful views though). The playground was really fun and right by site 1. It’s a big site so we put four tents and 15 people on that site comfortably, it also has a covered pavilion which helped us in the rain and a brief storm. The park hosts were incredibly kind and welcoming. One last note, you do need to bring your own drinking water in. We had such a great time and would totally recommend the park for adults or families. My only complaint was the persistent barking dog on the private residence by the entrance to the park, including late at night.

Weekend Trip to Heaven's Gate RV and Retreat

We had an incredible time on our trip to Heaven's Gate. We are hikers- not riders- so we weren't sure if it would be a great fit for us but it really was. The trails out here are gorgeous and the folks are all real welcoming and friendly. Bridgitte, our camp host, was more than accommodating and made the experience even more beautiful than it already was on its own. She makes breakfast on request and dinner on Fridays and Saturdays, all delicious (we missed Sunday brunch but heard great things about it). She even brought us her personal microwave from her own home when the one in our cabin sparked and stopped working. Bridgitte is the kind of camp host that makes you want to leave your cabin a little extra clean when you leave. This is a phenomenal place for all different kinds of people who crave getting out into nature. We loved every bit of the experience and cannot wait to go back; truly worth the drive no matter where you're coming from. Heaven's Gate is a great place for your dog, too- we brought ours and he was just elated the entire time. He loved it just about as much as we did. He will be returning with us in the summer!!

Weekend Trip to K.C. Ranch

The most gracious and kind hosts - Glenda and her grandson went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and had every need met. They provided fishing poles, dug up some worms for us to use, gave us a rope to let me and the kids lasso a dummy bull, and because there was concern about space they parked their rv camper next to the tiny house in case we wanted to use it. They even let us follow along with them and watch them manage their cattle, giving so much interesting info as we went. A great time!

The campsite overlooks over 600 acres of peaceful grassy knolls which takes the viewer back in time. See below for a bit of local history and things to see while in the area. Our campsites are BYOS sites: We do not provide outhouses or tent potties at our sites, so you must bring your own. We do, however, provide a full restroom with shower/bath at the main house during reasonable hours and have a septic for you to dispose of your waste (during open hours) so you don't have to travel with it. Welcome and we hope you enjoy yourselves and get a glimpse of a little bit of what our tierheim visitors enjoy when they come here. Local History About 65 miles southwest of Oklahoma City, near the junction of Highways 81 and 17, was a sign that said: "Welcome to Rush Springs, home of 1500 happy faces and a few old soreheads." Now the sign says: "Welcome to Rush Springs." Also, there is a giant watermelon slice indicating that Rush Springs is also the Watermelon Capital. Rush Springs gets its name from the large springs near the head of Rush Creek from which the town gets its water supply. It is one of the oldest (if not the oldest) settlements in Grady County, Oklahoma. The history of Rush Springs may be divided into six periods. The first period leads up to 1858. The springs served as a camping site for Indian tribes from very early days. The Wichita Indians settled on Rush Creek about four miles southeast of the present town around 1850. It was at this place that the famous "Battle of the Wichita Village" was fought between the Comanches and the United States Calvary on October 1, 1858. After this battle, the Wichitas fled to Fort Arbuckle. The second period deals with the Chisholm cattle trail (1865-1892). Thousands of heads of cattle were driven northward across the territory over this trail from Texas to Kansas. This trail passed about one and a half miles east of the town, and the springs served as a watering place for the cattle. This trail ceased to be used after the railroad was built across the territory in 1892. Parts of this trail can still be seen today. The third period covers the years 1871-1878. Fort Sill had just been established. Supplies had to be shipped to Fort Sill from points in the eastern part of Indian Territory. After the building of the railroad across the eastern part of the territory, Caddo became the main shipping point. Rush Springs was between Caddo and Fort Sill. A stage stand was built and a little town sprang up. When the government freight station was moved from Caddo to Texas, the little town nearly died. The years 1878-1892 make up the fourth period. The "Huntley Ranch" was established on Rush Creek near the site of the old Wichita Village. The ranch became a stage stand and a freight station for local settlers. A post office, known as "Parr," was established at this place in 1883. In 1892, this post office was moved to Rush Springs. The fifth period begins in the year 1892, when the Rock Island Railroad came through the springs. It became a government freight station to Fort Sill for nine years, resulting in rapid growth of the town. The sixth period dates from 1901 when the Rock Island Railroad lines were extended to Fort Sill and Lawton, thus ceasing the freight trade at Rush Springs. The town has since depended on ranching, farming and oil interest for its existence. This 55 acre park is home of a large sandstone that contains 8 markings believed to have been made by Vikings many years ago. Behind the hedgerow (to the North) there's a mowed areas for a tent. There's also a tree platform. A train runs through town about 10 x day and night about 5 blocks away. There's capacity for leaving your trash/recycling here (I have to pay for weekly pick-up but rarely is my bin full), there's also washer/dryer that can be used (within reason)
