Westmuckett Homestead

16 sites · RVs, Tents30 acres · Yale, OK
Welcome to our little slice of heaven, 30 acres of natural prairie nestled on the highest point in the county overlooking the surrounding Twin Mounds valley. Like most of us, we were in desperate need of a place to get away from the bustle of daily life, slow down, and decompress, and the land gave us just that! We are so excited to share this place with others who share our passion of the outdoors and feel that breath of the wild. Interestingly, each year we find out more about our home, from its Native American prehistory of being a ceremonial grounds, to its 19th century cival war conflict, and most recently, a lost article published in the 1940s in the local Oklahoman gazette that talks about burried treasure! Our sites offer lots of open space and are private and seculded from each other. We offer maintained camping sites which are closer to the main entrance and are easily accessible with standard vehicles as well as more our more natural habitat spots that are further into the back pasture. We have easy access to two main highways with the nearest Walmart 10 minutes away. Good cell phone coverage for all the main providers at most locations on the property. Learn more about this land: Come get away and enjoy 30 acres of space and solitude. We have beautiful views of the surrounding valley where our sites are secluded and private, it is the perfect place to break away from the daily grind. History surrounds you, located between the "Twin mounds " ( Battle of Round Mountain Nov. 19, 1861) our campsite is the highest elevation in Payne county. Most of the land is rolling natural prairie grasses and evergreen cedars. We are a great location if you enjoy hunkering down for the day or hiking around trails. Each individual site is unique and has plenty of character along with space to play, spread out, and relax. We welcome all pets! Large groups and family outings are also welcome. Our campsite is open through out the year, same day bookings or extended stays-Whatever your schedule we would be happy to have you. See you soon in the great Outdoors! *******[Good cell phone coverage for all the main providers at most locations on the property. Iconium Farms

Said of Iconium Farms from a guest through Boondockers RV and Harvest Host: “If you are looking for a pristine, natural setting for a peaceful evening, consider making the trek along the brilliant, red dirt roads and relax here. The music of dozens of birds sound like a choir and serenaded the morning and evening air. The sunset was a kaleidoscope of color, popping with magenta, ochers, and tangerine hues which later welcomed a brilliant lightning storm, illuminating the OK skies with spider lightning! Just gorgeous. If you are lucky, you will meet the irresistable landowner, a unique, creative individual who is happy to tell you the history of the land and his ambitious vision for the future. Brush up on your animal footprints. There are a lot to discover!” - Glenn H (cubbyvanlife) 1889 LandRun Legacy new venture in development. Lovely trails through wooded forests with dry creeks, gullies, and intermittent creeks fed by 1500 acres starting south about 2 miles. Tall red dirt walls along ravines that wind dramatically in southern portion of property. Creeks have water and fish, yet small perch with slow cascading waterfalls when rains have come. Areas to camp near creek. Big 10 acres field good for flying kites. Eastern Redcedar groves untouched for ages. Lots of no impact camping spots. Our Farm is in it’s start up year and we have and work hard. Some find it fun to watch and learn about sustainable growing. This will be developed further into glamping destination with disc golf course starting in a couple of years.

Oklahoma Donkey Dairy

1 site · RV38 acres · Jones, OK
Stay at one of the only Donkey Dairies in the United States! The Oklahoma Donkey Dairy is home to 35 Critically Endangered American Mammoth Donkeys. Our farm and our Dulce de Donké donkey milk skincare products have been featured in Southern Living Magazine, Garden & Gun Fieldshop, Fox News, KOCO, News 9, Good Morning New Mexico, Channel 2 Tulsa, and multiple local publications. Experience the Oklahoma Donkey Dairy in person, meet the gentle giants (American Mammoth Donkeys), hike the trails through the woods, relax in the grain bin gazebos with a good book, or just hang out in a hammock while the littles take turns on the zipline through the woods, teeter-totter and trikes, play in the playhouse, slide down the old school slipper slide, or play a few rounds of corn hole, giant checkers, and donkey tic-tac-toe. Everyone asks why on earth we started milking donkeys, the answer is that we never planned on milking donkeys, but sometimes God throws a wrench in our best laid plans! For our family, that wrench came on June 6, 2014. The day our 6-year-old woke up with strep throat which caused her immune system to mistakenly attack her brain. We were one of the few who got a correct diagnosis early, PANDAS disease (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disease Associated with Strep Throat). The top doctors in the nation said their "best guess was antibiotics every day for the next 13 years." This guess wasn't good enough. We cried a lot, prayed a lot, and cried some more. God ended up answering our prayer in an unlikely way, through an unlikely source...Donkey milk. In other countries, donkey milk is well known for its health benefits but in America, it was practically unheard of, made even more difficult to find since donkeys give very little milk! So we did what any desperate parent would do for their child, and started our own herd of American Mammoth Donkeys. These critically endangered donkeys are the descendants of President George Washington's first imported French Donkeys, royal gifts from the King of France. It was Washington's dream to create a breed of mule that would be strong enough to work this new land, and for this, he needed a large, strong breed of donkey to sire those mules. When the mule fell out of favor with the advent of the tractor and the plow, the need for Mammoth Donkeys declined, and so did their numbers. Camping near Stillwater with hiking guide

Overview

Stillwater is in the Sandstone Hills region of north-central Oklahoma, where scrublands and prairie hills with mesas reach up to 400 feet high. This large, college city is also home to Oklahoma State University and takes pride in its friendliness, which also draws campers passing through. Campsites near Stillwater range from primitive tent camping and cabin rentals to RV sites and decked-out glamping options. Lakes, creeks, and rivers invite Stillwater campers to swim, boat, fish, and enjoy wildlife viewing and birding, and even better—Sequoyah State Park, Lake Eufaula State Park, and Fort Cobb State Park all have their own campsites, plus golf courses or disc golf courses.

Where to go

Sequoyah State Park

The drive into Sequoyah State Park is lined with shortleaf pine and brings campers to the shores of Fort Gibson Lake for tent and RV camping, lodges and cabin rentals, and recreation on the water. Campsites with water, sewer, and electric hookups are minutes from lighted ramps for fishing and boating, while bait and boat rentals can be found at the marina. Trek 12 miles of biking, hiking, and horse trails, then perhaps share a fire-cooked meal at a group picnic shelter. Sequoyah also features educational experience programming at the Three Forks Nature Center, where rehabilitated mammals and birds are nursed back to health. Campers who golf should be sure to bring their clubs for the park’s 18-hole golf course.

Lake Eufaula State Park

Southeast of Stillwater, the hydroelectric Eufaula Dam turns a large reservoir into Lake Eufaula. The lake’s state park reserves space for nearly every type of camping near the water, from tent and RV campsites to glamping yurts with wifi and TVs. Campsites with water, sewer, and electric hookups can serve as home base for days spent hiking or mountain biking down natural trails, fishing in the designated pond, and taking advantage of the disc golf course. Lake Eufaula also boasts a public airstip for Hipcampers to fly in for a romantic visit to Lovelock Fountain, where sweethearts inscribe their names on padlocks clipped to the fence as a symbol of their devotion.

Fort Cobb State Park

Fort Cobb Lake, a 4,000 surface-acre watersport paradise, sits within Fort Cobb State Park. Here, Hipcampers have access to full-hookup RV and tent campsites, as well as pet-friendly cabin rentals with queen beds, refrigerators, and stoves. Fort Cobb also has primitive campsites—just be sure to reserve online. Once you’re settled into your site, the lake is prime for swimming, fishing, and boating (rentals available), while the 18-hole golf course also beckons.

When to go

Stillwater enjoys a humid subtropical climate, with impressive storms ramping up in summer. The best time for camping and outdoor activities in the area is either before the summer humidity and heat set in or when the cooling fall air rolls in. The generally mild temperatures of September and October usually stay above 55°F and below 80°F, while March through May temperatures hover between 40 and 70°F.
