3 nights at Upriver Paradise -"Private Retreat"

This site was amazing and very peaceful. Steve was a fabulous host and made sure everything was in order. The site was huge, had two hookups, multiple chairs, fire pits, and tables. It really had anything you need. Aside from big trucks going by on the road you couldn’t hear any noise over the river as you are set back. I definitely plan on staying here again.

Tony was such a great host! Super accommodating and helpful. He met us when we arrived to make sure we got setup comfortably and gave us some great suggestions of things in the area. Within walking distance of a restaurant, had shower, full hookups, and a dump site he allowed us to use. We saw seals and had a beautiful view of the river and the ocean in the distance. Would recommend and def will stay again when in town!

What a peaceful stay near Crater Lake NP! It was super nice and quiet and had a very woodsy, private feel. They really have a great set up for campers to enjoy. Also Excellent communication. Hope to visit again!

Weekend Trip to Upriver RV Park

We really enjoyed camping at Upriver RV Park. The view from the sites along the river is incredible along with the stars at night. The sound of the river was so relaxing to listen to while falling asleep. All sites were level, clearly marked, and very clean. We were the only campers at the park since we went off season, however it would be a great place to RV camp in the summer as there were rafting rentals nearby. To get to the campground, drive to the Imperial River Co hotel parking lot and take the first left to go past the raft shop and under the bridge. Bathrooms/showers are on the backside of the raft shop building and are accessible 24/7. As an added bonus, campers can use some of the same amenities that the hotel guests get (relaxing riverside swings, volleyball, etc).

What a cool and unique spot! Steve was awesome helping us get our 40' 5th wheel in place. It was tight, but we made it! We unfortunately had to leave after 1 night but it was a gorgeous spot. Will definitely be back!

What an amazing spot. You could easily fit a few campers in here. We were solo just cause we like it like that. The camp is immaculate, the host Steve was amazing. You do get a little road noise due to the proximity of Hwy 126, but it's well worth it.

Absolute perfection. This place is one very large single campsite with 2 seperate hookups for a family or small group. It is in trees just feet away from the Mckenzie River. It has been immaculately cared for and is a fabulous lay out and design. The host was thoughtful about everything including putting a bamboo wall around the porta potty. It is so peaceful with the sound of the river. We were there 4.5 days and never saw another person. This is now in our list of places to return. And I can not do it justice with words.

Weekend Trip to Ruah Ranch

Ruah Ranch was a beautiful space, especially if you like dogs, cats, chickens, and horses. It was bit chilly in my tent during the winter season so bring extra layers. Thank you Lee, Connie, and especially Sherry for jumping my car battery after I drained it. I got some much needed fresh air and sunshine. The folks in town were pleasant as well. 🙂

We camped in our van with our pup. We got in after dark but it was easy enough to find our spot. The property is clean (especially the composting toilet!), uniquely laid out, and nicely beautiful. We didn’t get to meet our hosts but we are grateful they were flexible with our late arrival. Great location if you’re cutting toward the coast from Grants Pass!

You will stay on the grounds of the beautiful Historic Crane Ranch, originally established in 1869. There are 325 acres to explore, including wetlands, willow forests, hay fields, creek and peat bogs. Wildlife such as deer, bear, beaver, porcupine, skunk, raccoon, fox, coyote, cougar and squirrels have all been seen on the property. And a rattlesnake was seen 18 years ago. And there are many feathered friends; it’s a bird watchers paradise. There will be a variety of primitive camp sites in addition to the existing two sites close to the headquarters that have 20 amp power via extension cord. Fresh clean water is available from several faucets around the headquarters. Most campsites are sized to allow for group camping which makes this a perfect stop for adventure bikers touring the Oregon Outback or Burners to and from Black Rock City. There is a rustic but clean open air bathroom with flush toilet and a hot shower that is available to all guests in addition to a blue portapotty. Also a community gazebo that encloses a room with netting to keep mosquitos at bay. No outside fires are permitted at the campsites, however there is a community fire ring for a warming fire, pending local fire restrictions. Located just 6 miles south of Lakeview, Oregon, our slice of paradise is only 145 miles (2.5 hours) from Black Rock City and 8 miles from the California border. This is an active ranch environment so at times there could be haying operations going on during the summer. The ranch borders rural Highway 395 and even though it’s usually pretty quiet and the camping is away from the highway, you can still hear it at times. The wetland environment supports so many species, but it also supports mosquitos during the spring and early summer. Be prepared for mosquitos at all sites especially when camping in the willow forest during spring and early summer. Dogs are welcome at all sites and are encouraged to be on leash around the headquarters. However, there is ample space for your pets to run off leash. Tom's Rest Canyon Retreat Center

Tom Edwards worked tirelessly for years to clear this wild recreation space where he planned to live while helping others. One can quickly and easily walk to the river trail from our house. Our property has been in business in one way or another for over 70 years. The stick built cabins are pre 1950's and no one really knows for sure how old they truly are. We are located on Fort Creek named after the creek that ran through Fort Klamath. Fort Creek is a beautiful 30' wide meandering creek that runs the length of the property north to south. We offer free use of our Old Town Canoes to paddle along it's extent and on up creek to a beaver damn. Of course, we expect all dog owners to keep an eye on their pets so they don't disturb other campers or ingest anything they're not supposed to. QUIET HOURS: 10pm-9am. We ask that guests keep the noise (loud music and loud conversations) to a minimum between 10pm and 9am. We live onsite and will enforce these if we have to (please don't make us). Oregon has long been known as an outdoor destination, with snow-capped mountains, rugged high desert, Pacific Coast beaches, and roaring rivers all within a few hours’ drive of one another. While Portland attracts visitors with its celebrated food scene and music venues, Oregon offers much more for those who’d prefer a quieter getaway out in nature. If you’ve come to camp or hike, you’ll have no shortage of options to choose from—in fact, there are 11 national forests, hundreds of state parks and recreation areas, and 2.5 million acres of protected wilderness within the state’s borders.

Where to go

The Willamette Valley

Extending from the border with Washington state down to the community of Springfield, the Willamette Valley is Oregon’s main economic and cultural hub. Although it’s home to the state’s three most populated cities (Portland, Salem, and Eugene), much of the Willamette Valley is dominated by forests and countryside, with plenty of state parks, hiking and mountain biking trails, hot springs, and rivers.

Mount Hood and the Columbia River Gorge

Just east of Portland on the border with Washington, the Columbia River Gorge offers easy access to miles of hiking trails, waterfalls, and great skiing and snowboarding. The adjacent Mt. Hood region has equally beautiful scenery and is as popular for winter skiing and snowboarding as it is for hiking, swimming, and camping in the summer months.

The Oregon Coast

This region is popular year-round, attracting whale-watching fans in the cooler months and campers and hikers in the summer months. Popular Oregon Coast activities include hiking, tide pool viewing, clamming, crabbing, off-road vehicle rides on the sweeping Oregon Dunes, and sampling world-famous cheese and ice cream in Tillamook. While some brave souls don wetsuits for surfing and diving, the Pacific Ocean waters rarely get warm enough for comfortable dips. Some of the area’s best camping options can be found at Harris Beach State Park, Sunset Bay State Park, and Cape Lookout State Park, all of which offer tent camping, yurt rentals, and RV sites with hookups.

Eastern and Central Oregon

Stretching from the portion of the Cascade Range south of the Columbia Gorge all the way east to the Oregon-Idaho border, central and eastern Oregon offer a dryer, sunnier alternative to the rainier parts of the state, with a mix of lush forest and craggy high desert landscapes. Highlights include Deschutes National Forest, popular for backpacking and backcountry stays, while campers in search of a more developed camping experience can head to one of the many Oregon state parks along the Deschutes River, near Bend.

Southern Oregon

Oregon’s southernmost region offers a variety of scenery, with a mix of lakes, forests, and rivers interspersed with rolling expanses of countryside (not to mention some great wineries). The region’s most famous natural attraction is Crater Lake National Park, Oregon’s only national park, set near the southeastern reaches of Umpqua National Forest.
