Our facilities include an outdoor shower, a solar-powered composting toilet, fresh water, fire pits, and plenty of flat ground surrounded by trees for excellent camping! Please read this whole message so you are not surprised when you get here! Note: The use of the sauna, hot tub, and composting toilet are only for Glamp bookings! The campsites and tipi use the port-a-potty and have the use of an on-demand outdoor shower. Our home and farm is on two acres. Your tent site, is all in our ample acreage. Although pets are welcome, we expect them to be well-behaved around our two cats, our own big sweetie of a pup, Frejya, our two crazy goats Cupcake and Muffin, and our free-ranging chickens. Expect to hear some animal noises here on the farm. Our property literally borders the scenic highway. Because we are so close, you can hear the sunset-view-seeking drivers, motorcycle riders, and yes, racers who come out this way for a spin on one of the most scenic highways in the world. Our farm consists of 12 acres of garden, food forest, and silvopasture systems; 20 acres of regenerating forest, pond and wetland ecosystems for wildlife and native plants and animals; and 7 acres of farm buildings and infrastructure. Our approach to raising food and stewarding our lands focuses on building ecological resilience and diversity. We have seven private tent campsites hidden in the forest but easily accessible by flat walking trails. Each camp oasis includes a level wood-chip pad for one tent, redwood stools and tables, and languid moments of absolute refuge and quiet (unless our livestock guardian dog hears a nighttime prowler - in which case, you'll hear some protective barking). Plenty of large trees perfect for stringing a hammock surround every camp pad. And every site is a short walk from a central camp amenities station with a toilet, hot water showers and wash sinks. One of our sites (#7) is equipped with a vintage canvas tent; just bring your own bedding and essentials and save yourself the effort of setting up and taking down a tent! You're welcome to walk the 2+ miles of farm trails and paths, check in on the animals, survey the farm pond, and find a spot for a forest bath or rest. Please stay out of farm buildings, avoid OFF-trail walking (to protect our delicate farm and forest ecosystems), and close all gates after you pass through them (even if you found them open for some reason)! We observe all fire restrictions as posted with the local fire department. Waterfall Sanctuary is a hidden gem at the end of a dead-end road on 17 acres of land, bordered on two sides by the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Located in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge just outside of Carson, Washington, Waterfall Sanctuary is home to a mini-farm with goats, ducks, and chickens. Deer and elk walk through the property on a fairly regular basis depending on the season, it's less than a mile walk (or a short drive) to the Wind River and a perfect swimming hole with a rope swing, and another short distance further down the road is the Pacific Crest Trail. A 20-minute drive and you're at the Columbia River, the world destination for kiteboarding and windsurfing. Water equipment can be rented from nearby businesses or you can book a whitewater rafting trip on the White Salmon River. An hour from the property to the West is Portland, Oregon if you are in the mood for some city life, and about 40 minutes to the east is Hood River, Oregon, a gorgeous old town with tons of charm, shopping, breweries, and great restaurants. Drive the Fruit Loop or do a winery tour. The closest town, Stevenson, Washington is also home to adorable shops, great local restaurants, and access to the Columbia River as well. Also in close proximity are multitudes of amazing waterfalls, Panther Creek Falls and Falls Creek Falls being the two closest. National Forest roads are close by and well maintained. No matter the season there is something to do a short distance from the property. Please, keep in mind that the property is very rugged except for the trails we have provided for our guests to be able to access other parts of the property. We keep it that way not only so we can attract the copious amounts of wildlife that are a joy for our guests to experience, but also to be more environmentally and ecosystem friendly. We are also off grid and as sustainable as possible- no electricity or running water is available, although we provide battery or solar operated lighting, and a container of water for each spot that we will happily refill for you during your stay.

Nella Chestnut Farm

Neal Creek runs through the farm, offering a tranquil ambiance with its soothing sounds, and gentle cool breeze it brings with it. Additionally, there's a picturesque 10-foot-deep pond, fed by Shelly Creek, that a family of ducks has been calling home for years. At the right time of the year the orchestra that the frogs perform at the pond is the most impressive thing on Nella Chestnut Farm. Children of all ages can enjoy the thrill of a very tall swing on the property located right at the walking bridge that crosses Neal Creek. There are 2 full restrooms each with a shower, 1 built inside a 20-foot shipping container the other right beside it. Under the restroom container is another buried container that is literally the coolest area to cool off in. The temperature is 50'F year round. Exploring the farm is a delightful experience, guests are welcome to let their dogs roam freely. No plastic bags allowed. It is a farm and it is what animals do , there are shovels scattered around the farm so if you see something you personally do not like, grab a shovel, dig a hole & bury it, adding nutrients to the soil, the trees will be very happy to watch you and so would Mother Nature. Skaters ... and maybe some of you ... wait for it ... used to skate ... LOL ... there's a mini ramp inside a 20' shipping container so drop in. It is a working Chestnut Farm where you can find spots to camp, not a campground. There are no designated spots . There is power in both restrooms and the barn, there is a spot to dump waste to Nella Chestnut Farm septic as well. Please remember to dispose of all waste and recyclables responsibly by taking them to the Hood River Recycle and Transfer Station at 3440 Guignard Dr, Hood River, OR 97031. Remember no plastic bags please. As much as I love DEER TICK not everyone does, ticks in the spring can be nasty, I am warning you.

Zigzag Mountain Farm

Located on Mount Hood about an hour from Portland, Zigzag Mountain Farm is home to an organic garden, old homestead, house, yurts, and barn. 50 acres of open meadows and forest, bordering thousands of acres of national forest. The farm is home to an organic garden, campfire circle, picnic area, a city bus with a campers' kitchen, outdoor seating area with BBQ, kids play structure and hiking trails. The cabin on the property was built by the original homesteaders. Britta and Jim purchased the property in 2009. It had been vacant for a number of years. Giant slash piles scattered the land from previous logging. The house and cabin were not livable and needed major renovations. In 2019 we purchased and brought in a city bus and converted it to a campers kitchen. A year-round creek flows through the property and 3 major rivers are nearby. The Zigzag Mountain Lookout Trail leaves from the property. The property was homesteaded in the late 1800's. E. Mountain Drive was the wagon train trail into Portland, known as the Barlow Trail. Zigzag Mountain farm offers the perfect escape from the city.
