Park your RV, then hike, windsurf, or go apple picking on the Banks of the Columbia River.
A little over an hour's drive east of Portland on the banks of the Columbia River, Hood River attracts RV campers with its wineries, fruit orchards, restaurants, breweries, and easy access to miles of fantastic hiking and mountain biking trails. It's also known as the windsurfing capital of the world, offering ideal conditions for windsurfers of all levels. Because Hood River is very much developed, RV campers can find plenty of options with dump stations, free wifi, and electric hookups in and near town, with tons of privately owned campsites and Hipcamps in the area, particularly just across the Columbia River in Washington state. Options also exist in the expansive Willamette National Forest, though public campsites do fill up fast, especially in the summer months. If you like apples and pears, come for the annual harvest, which runs from mid- to late-September.
