From underground caverns to sky-high views, Townsend gives RV campers adventure at every elevation.
RV camping is a great way to access the sights that Townsend has to offer. Stay close to town at a shady shoreline RV campsite on the Little River to kayak or fish near secret swimming spots on sunny summer days. Many RV campgrounds in Townsend also offer full hookups and fire pits, which come in handy during chilly winters. Make a pit stop at Tuckaleechee Caverns and book a guided tour to see the tallest underground waterfall in the eastern US. For more fun, drive your campervan or rig 45 minutes out of town to discover Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Here, you can roll the motorhome into Cades Cove to find campsites with potable water, dump stations, and flush toilets. Try the 11-mile Cades Cove Loop for a scenic drive, or hike through the valley to explore historic buildings. Clingmans Dome also offers incredible views with the chance to experience the highest and most scenic point in the park. Check road closures in winter, as access is weather-dependent.
