The front portion of the house was completed in April of 1861 and the back in the early 1900s. We have plans to eventually turn it into a working farm which produces tinctures, salves and extracts of various native plants including hemp. W.T. Farm?

What makes W.T. Farm special is the diversity of textures of the landscape. We have great mountain top views, as well as, a deep holler with cliffs, rock outcroppings, and waterfalls. The fields are full of fruit and nut trees and there are 5 ponds. Each of these supports its own flora and fauna. I acquired stewardship of this land 35 years ago and have developed perennial orchards wherever possible. I started with pears and have branched out into pawpaws, apples, persimmons, currants, black walnuts etc. and I boast that I planted the first commercial hickory oil orchard in the world. I am an eccentric horticulturalist and graft cultivar varieties onto existing trees like oaks, hickories, black walnuts, and even the maligned invasive honeysuckle, autumn olive and multiflora rose. Just last year I bought an adjoining farm that opened up 50 acres of more orchard planting. It is on top of the mountain and offers an expansive view of the valley and ridge system that defines our region. Funny thing is that because the land between the old farm and the new farm is divided by cliffs in the holler the only way to get from one to the other is a 12 minute drive or vigorous hiking. On this new land is a historic log cabin I am renovating that is said to be one of the original settler's cabin on the mountain. Because of the amount of tree fruit I grow and the varied landscape, there is a rich diversity of birds and animals to be seen. One of my favorite walks is along the cliffs to the top waterfall where there is a sweet wading pool. I have also built a number of ponds and four of them are quite swimmable. One has a dock and is where we spend much summer time refreshing and frolicking. The farm is also a small (very small) licensed farm winery and we make and sell traditional hard cider from our apples and pears. Our cider can be purchased along with our nut oils and flours and other farm produce you may not be familiar with. We live to eat. Coming here is a gastronomical adventure! I run the Acornucopia project from here and from it we are developing a foragers network that would very much suit the lifestyle of hipcampers. We pay foragers for wild nuts they gather. The goats love visitors, so please let us know if you want to take part in the farming, or just give treats :). We are also happy to have our guests take part in some of the farm activities. Bring your sense of adventure, but please do not book if you will be bothered by goat sounds, a dog barking or rooster crowing! We want you to be happy wherever you stay! The cabin has a driveway to the front door and is accessible by 3 stairs onto the porch. It's perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring and listening to the quiet sounds of the country. We have found that our guests are interested in having some local amenities available upon check-in. We love to make our guests comfortable, so have put together a variety of packages for you to select from upon confirmation of reservation. (If you'd like to see the packages ahead of time, please just send us a message here). There is NO SMOKING on the property, inside or outside. On the main level of the cabin, you will find a kitchenette (compact oven, microwave, coffee pot, refrigerator and sink), dining/living area, the bedroom and bathroom. There is also a loft with an additional full size bed, accessed by a sturdy ladder. Please note that the cabin is on the edge of the woods, and you may encounter wildlife while here :).

Way Up Acres and is a 50 acre farm. You'll love meeting all the farm animals and seeing all the beautiful views around you. If you like hiking you have plenty of room to roam around and hike our mountain. The stars and firefly's are amazing at night. We have a country store open with a variety of things to meet your needs. Also now open is our made to order Snack Bar for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are some baked goods and fresh eggs available for purchase also. WIFI is very limited and only available in game room below main house. If you're looking to get away from everyday life, this is the place for you.

12 Gates Farms

This property was once a 300 acre plus tobacco farm. The original log cabin was built in the 1850s and now serves as our dining room. The front portion of the house was completed in April of 1861 and the back in the early 1900s. We have plans to eventually turn it into a working farm which produces tinctures, salves and extracts of various native plants including hemp. Learn more about this land: Heavily wooded mountain side with flowing creek. Easy access (walking distance) to Jefferson National Forest, National Forest horse trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway. (Note: You cannot drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway as the path is an old forest road which has been gated, but you can walk up to it.) We also have a small, uncovered tree house which is available on a first come, first served basis. Only site 4 is next to the brook. However, the site positions are for the purposes of the listing only. You may camp anywhere on the property. There is plenty of frontage on the creek and several tents can go up there. We also now have a purple bus which is retrofitted as a camper and has a refrigerator, stove and television which is connected to our internet.
