Rebel Ranch

2 sites · RVs, Tents80 acres · Laramie, WY
Experience the rustic charm of Rebel Ranch, where the beauty of the land meets the spirit of the wild. Our working ranch is home to a variety of animals, including horses, bison, and chickens. As you step onto our property, you'll immediately feel a sense of tranquility and connection to nature. There is not a bathroom available for campers on this property. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO OUTSIDE RESTROOM USE, NUMBER 1 OR 2! If you are a tent camper you must have a portable toilet to use inside your tent and must pack it out with YOU. If you do not arrive with the appropriate toilet amenities or are seen using the restroom outside, you will be told to leave the property immediately and will not be refunded. There is a liability waiver copied at the bottom, by booking you are acknowledging and agreeing to that contract. One of the first things you'll notice is our friendly horses, who roam the property freely and are likely to come greet you during your stay. You'll have the opportunity to interact with these majestic animals, feeding them, haltering them, brushing them, and even cleaning their stalls. It's a hands-on experience that will deepen your appreciation for these incredible creatures. Next, you'll have the chance to get up close and personal with our bison. These massive animals are a sight to behold, and you'll have the opportunity to feed them treats, move their grazing pasture, and ensure they have fresh water. It's a rare chance to connect with these iconic animals in a meaningful way. And let's not forget about our chickens! You'll help feed and water them, collect eggs (you'll go home with a half dozen, with more available for purchase), and clean their coop. It's a fun and educational experience that will give you a new appreciation for where your food comes from. Throughout your day at Rebel Ranch, you'll be surrounded by stunning valley and mountain views, creating the perfect backdrop for your farm adventure. Whether you're looking for a hands-on experience or simply want to enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside, Rebel Ranch has something for everyone. Come join us for a day and experience the magic of the ranch for yourself.

Spotted Fox Meadow

4 sites · RVs, Tents175 acres · Yampa, CO
This land has been my family's ranch since the early 70's. We love it here and are happy to share it with campers that wish to enjoy the valley and respect the land. More about this campsite: The site is in a small ranch pasture along the Bear River near willow, birch, and large cottonwood trees. From the campsite there are views of the Flat Top mountains and ancient volcanic necks. Very quiet except for ranch activity and the friendly livestock guardian dogs (who will visit, and they bark to protect the sheep and goats at night) - it's a working ranch and you may have to contend with talkative sheep or dodge the occasional cow pie!

The best camping near Pearl Lake State Park guide

Overview

About

Just outside of Steamboat Springs, this snug state park provides a quieter alternative to the better known Steamboat Lake State Park, a 10-minute drive down the road. Pearl Lake attracts anglers and water-sports enthusiasts with its wakeless lake in the summer, while the wintertime draws in folks looking for a laid-back spot to snowshoe, cross-country ski, snowmobile, and ice fish. There are 33 seasonal campsites and two year-round yurts at the park plus flush and vault toilets,  and while you won’t find hookups or showers at the park, those camping at Pearl Lake are welcome to use the robust facilities at Steamboat Lake.

Notable campgrounds

  • Best for glamping: Upper Loop has two yurts, one of which is ADA accessible
  • Best for quick trips to the lake: Lower Loop offers a prime location, and all sites are within 10 to 50 yards of Pearl Lake.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. You can reserve a campsite or yurt through the Colorado Parks and Wildlife online reservation system or over the phone.

  2. Reservations can be made up from six months in advance up to your day of arrival.
  3. Yurts are available year-round, but campsites close in the winter due to snow.
  4. If you can’t find a site in the park, you may want to see what’s available at Steamboat Lake State Park,  a 10-minute drive west of Pearl Lake. Privately owned Hipcamps in the area are also worth considering.

When to go

Pearl Lake State Park is open throughout the year, and is at its busiest in July and August, when the weather is ideal for watersports and camping. The best times to fish are in mid-to-late May and again in the autumn. Note that the campgrounds close during the snowy season (usually around the middle of October) and don’t usually reopen until the end of May.

Know before you go

  • Hahns Peak Village, about a 10-minute drive from the park, is the closest place to get supplies and groceries or fill up on gas.
  • Pets are allowed at campsites and elsewhere in the park, but must be kept leashed. Pets are allowed in yurt #16 for a small daily fee.
  • Swimming is prohibited in Pearl Lake.
  • You can leave your boat along the shore or in the boat ramp parking lot.
  • Parking passes are required for all guests and are not included in the price of camping or yurt reservations.
  • The park offers one accessible yurt (#6) and one accessible campsite (#35).
