1 night at Buford Canyon

This place is great. I was lucky enough to be there during a nice soft snow. Sitting inside of this place watching the snowfall was surreal. It’s a very comfortable place. Chas was great. Checked in on me as the temps dropped quite a bit over night. I actually got stranded from the snow as the interstate was closed and Chas was amazing during what could have been a stressful experience. I will definitely plan to be back.

Weekend Trip to Boulder Chicken Ranch

We had a great time at the Journey tent and would come back! It was our first camping experience with a baby but it was still quite comfortable. The stove inside the tent made all the difference, and the bed was pretty comfortable. There were others camping around but although they were close, we couldn't hear them. We opted for coffee in the morning and picked eggs from the coop. There was no shade around, maybe on a different season the trees around do provide some, but not in April. Patrick was super kind and quick to reply. If you want to go on a trail you need to drive there. There are little farms around and it’s close to anything you would need so that’s convenient! Overall it was a pretty cool experience!

2 nights at The Bluebear at Y Double-K Ranch

Staying at Blue Bear was absolutely amazing! The views are breathtaking and the cabin is incredibly cozy! Cesar’s directions were very helpful - echoing that you should get the directions prior to heading up the mountain as you’ll likely not have service. You should also bring your own water! We cannot recommend this place enough. The little wood burning oven was perfect for warming up the cabin and provided such a fun element! Did we already mention the views? 12/10!

Weekend Trip to Buford Canyon

We (Chase & Kylie) had a fantasic stay in our small camper! The spot was very clean and organized, the view was beautiful, and the bathroom with a view was the cherry on top! Our dog had plenty of room for a good game of fetch as well. We definitely will try to stay here again when/if we come through the area! The cabins seemed very nice, and may be what we do next!

Weekend Trip to Boulder Chicken Ranch

Patrick’s property is just outside of Boulder but close enough so you can get to town for dinner or shopping in no time at all. We enjoyed how pretty and quiet it was. We appreciated the mowed grass walkways and the little lights at night. The honey pot was also a plus as our trailer was having battery trouble during our visit. The best part are the chickens and their farm fresh eggs! Patrick was a fantastic communicator and made us feel very welcome. Thank you!

We loved everything about our stay at the chicken meadow! Patrick was very generous and helped with our every need. Finding our way in was slightly confusing, but was really my own fault. Just make sure you have a compass on your way in. Couldn't recommend this spot enough!!

I would definitely come here again! Cute little meadow with lights guiding pathways at night. Toilet on site. Plenty of room to park our RV, right by the lake. It was also nice that we could grab some fresh eggs for breakfast from the chicken coop!

You will not find a more peaceful stay, better view, and more hospitable hosts than at the Blue Moon Cabin! Every detail of the cabin is well thought out for the comfort of guests. Our favs? A warm fire in the evening, windows facing a canyon in Medicine Bow, the convenience of indoor bathroom facilities, privacy even in the outdoor space complete with Adirondack chairs & gas fire pit. We arrived back home completely rested and ready for the work week ahead.

Loved my time here. It was a very quiet stay where I could explore the land and hang out with a few roaming horses and a donkey. Easy to find, a wide selection of spots and all around fantastic to escape to.

Everything was great! Fresh eggs from the farm and coffee delivered to our tent in the morning! A great memory for my family. Our dog loved it just as much!

The Blue moon Cabin was amazing! Chas met us at the cabin to get us oriented and off to the right foot. The cabin was a perfect balance of excellent views, seclusion, and access to recreation while providing a warm soft place for the three kids to sleep. Chas also went out of his way to show us where the best hiking was for the kids! They are already asking to go back!

This was our second stay at Buford Canyon. It’s so beautiful. We love dry camping here. My kids tell me that I need to plan more than just an overnight. I do want to hike and explore more. We will be back.

They might peck slightly when trying to eat though. The 2 roosters do protect their hens. Park vehicle in the blue highlighted area as to not have vehicle traffic in the grassed areas down the tree rows. Also, to not have someone accidentally run over a small tree. Please watch out for pink flags. Those markers are for smaller trees so they are easy to spot and not broken down by stepping on them. You are more than welcome to drive along the right side of the property just past the blue area to the back pasture area if you need to for unloading gear for the back wooded tent sites. Don’t mess with the bull!Firewood, for $7.00 per bag delivered to your campsite. The bags make a great trash bag when empty! Do not bring your own firewood, as we don’t want more pine beetles and noxious weeds. The closest trailhead in RMNP is 10 miles, the next trailhead at Wild Basin entrance to the park is 13 miles, and the Beaver Meadows entrance (main entrance) is 36 miles. Rocky Mountain National Park has breathtaking drives, easy strolls with interpretive signs, and 360 miles of trails. (Advance reservation required for entry 9:00 am to 3:00 pm for main park, or 5:00 am to 6:00 pm for Bear Lake corridor.) Indian Peaks Wilderness also has several nearby access points and trailheads. Ask Dot for details. The charming town of Lyons is 20 minutes away with coffee shops, restaurants, bars, lots of great live music, and quaint shops. Site's 10 11 12 13 14 15 are perfect for families, where you can all be together but separate. We are a work in progress but we will try to accommodate anything you may need. Please talk to us! We have firewood $7.00 per bag delivered to your campsite. Do not bring your own firewood. We don’t want more pine beetles and noxious weeds. A can of propane is always available for your use of the stove. * A note to novice campers and regular hotel patrons: Though you are in a shelter, you are still exposed to the elements. The treehouse is not insulated. Wind, bugs, and critters may all be a part of the variable treehouse experience mother nature has planned for you. If you are not comfortable camping, getting dirty, swatting flies, being too hot, being too cold, hearing the noises of animals at night, waking up to the sound of magpies, and who knows what else, this experience may not be for you.

A lively university town, Fort Collins is known for its brew pubs and nightlife scene, but there are plenty of outdoor adventures to be had as well. You can bike just about everywhere in this bicycle friendly town, including the scenic Poudre River Trail. Just outside of town, hike, mountain bike, horseback ride, climb, and paddle at Lory State Park, Horsetooth Reservoir, and Horsetooth Mountain Open Space, then camp lakeside or in the backcountry. The city is also a gateway to the Rocky Mountains and the Arapaho & Roosevelt National Forests, where plenty of natural beauty, outdoor adventure, and camping options await.

Head southwest to explore Rocky Mountain National Park’s peaks and vistas, and stay in a developed campground or one of hundreds of backcountry sites. At Arapaho and Roosevelt national forests, find 1.5 million acres of forest, outdoor recreation, and more than 20 campgrounds within the Canyon Lakes Ranger District. Explore the mountains and lakes of State Forest State Park, go moose viewing, and choose from developed campgrounds, backcountry sites, and year-round cabins, yurts, and huts.

Grasslands and Plains

Head east to the Pawnee National Grasslands, rich in wildlife and pioneer history, and plenty of opportunities for recreation, including hiking, horseback riding, OHV riding, and birdwatching. When to go

Spring, summer, and fall are all great times to visit Fort Collins. The weather is pleasant for outdoor activities, and there are numerous festivals during this time. Spring and early summer are great times for wildflowers in the region, while May and June are the best times for birdwatching in the grasslands and plains. Afternoon storms are common in the spring and summer. Many winter activities are snow dependent.
